There's been alot of talk (rumours) that all the members of Queen are Christians, including Freddy Mercury. The members of Queen have never spoken in public about their faith, but there's been alot of "Spiritual Themes" running thru their lyrics, especially Freddy's thru-out the years. On Queen's very 1st album in 1973 called, "Queen",there's a Freddy Mercury song called......"Jesus".,here's a video from Youtube of their song Jesus.....& I also included their other song,"Somebody To Love" from the album,"A Day At The Races"................you decide JESUS.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo4Pl3eMalY SOMEBODY TO LOVE.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxbFLYa0_bw

He was also in a relationship with another man up until his death . . . reportedly died wearing a wedding band given to him by his boyfriend, Jim Hutton. He also reportedly had not attended a religious gathering for years before his death. So . . basically . . No. Not even close.

I'm tempted to say no...but I have no idea about the living members of the band. (Didn't they just do a reunion tour or something?)

To those of us who "don't know"...we don't keep track of the band members' day to day lives to we have no idea how they are living at the moment.

There is no ambiguity with regard to what, you know, the Bible says regarding an immoral lifestyle. Mercury was a gay/bisexual who left his estate to his 'girlfriend' (actual female) and died of full blown AIDS. Even without his sexual orientation, he was still immoral. There is no guesswork about whether this band is/was or wants to be Christian. But I undestand that some people don want to 'judge'. Maybe this will help. All UTD and no one professing Christianity. quote:
Freddie Mercury occupied a unique niche in rock. While in many respects he was overtly queer his whole career, (“I am as gay as a daffodil, dear” being one of his most famous quotes), his sexual orientation seemed to pass over the heads of scrutinizing audiences and pundits (both gay and straight) for decades. It’s difficult even now to write much about him: when he died, he did not leave an autobiography. There are not many serious, informative interviews with him on record. He didn’t like talking to the press. John Marshall of Gay Times wrote in January 1992: "He was a 'scene-queen', not afraid to publicly express his gayness but unwilling to analyze or justify his lifestyle....It was as if Freddie Mercury was saying to the world, 'I am what I am. So what?' And that in itself was a statement". Following are the members of Queen: Brian May, Guitar Roger Taylor, Drums John Deacon, Bass Freddie Mercury, Vocals Brian May: apparently not gay and insists did not know that Mercury was (gay) :not Christian either, may be preparing for another tour In 1969, Brian May, lead guitarist of the legendary rock band Queen, gave up a career in astrophysics to pursue his dream of becoming an international rock star. Now, almost four decades later, the two strands of his life, music and astronomy, are coming back together. He is currently finishing the PhD he started at Imperial College London back when Queen was just beginning to take off. He has also co-authored a popular book on cosmology, "Bang! The complete history of the universe". Roger Taylor, Drums : not a Christian, no longer touring In the period of 1987 to 1993 he formed a group named The Cross. After that in 1994 he published a new solo album "Happiness?", which was "Dedicated to the tasmanian tiger - thylacinus cynocephalus, but most especially... for Freddie". In September 1998 he published his, to date, last solo album, "Electric Fire". He supported it with a small tour in the spring of 1999, on which Queen-guitarist Brian May joined him at the gig in Wolverhampton. Taylor formed The Cross while Queen was on hiatus after the Magic Tour in 1986. It seems speculation may have started with the name of Taylor's band being, "The Cross"..no Christian beliefs involved and it was a dance band John Deacon, Bass: not a Christian Between 1986 and 1997 John again worked with Queen, completing 'The Miracle' and 'Innuendo' albums, assisting with 'Made in Heaven' and the recording of the Queen single 'No One But You' in 1997 and did assist in preliminary work on the 'We Will Rock You' stage show. John has now officially retired from the music business but does endorse the new tour, but did not wish to be part of it. John also checks-up with the Queen fan clubs to keep in touch with the fans. Freddy Mercury, Vocals: Died an unrepentant gay/bi-sexual while living with a woman to whom he was not married Just the facts.

ORIGINAL: stellaluna (Didn't they just do a reunion tour or something?) They re-formed with a new lead vocalist a few years back: Paul Rodgers, former lead singer with "Free" (Alright now, Wishing Well) and "Bad Company." AFAIK, none of them have ever claimed to be christians. Their lifestyle certainly does not show it.

But since yesterday or this morning or whenever whatever solarflare quoted from was written, we have no idea and it's not wrong to hold out hope. Freddie Mercury, we can be reasonably sure died an unbeliever.

They have not reformed. The info is UTD. Check it out yourself......hold out hope? Why? Cause they are all such outstanding citizens and moral right guard examples for the rest of us? Or because they are famous? People to this day refuse to believe Freddy was bi or and gay...why is that?

I personally hold out hope because I'd like everyone to be saved. What one does before one becomes a believer is irrelevant... I have no idea why anyone would refuse to recognize Mercury's sexuality. <shrug>

I think everyone here is missing my point on what I was asking.....all I said was....I've heard some rumours lately from some of my friends in the Christian Music Scene in England & some of my friends in the music press in the U.K. that there's been some talk about the members faith recently & of what Freedy Mercury believed etc.... and for everyone to pay attention to the songs that Freddy Mercury wrote like..."Jesus & Somebody To Love " & many others that have a religous/spiritual themes running thru them. Did any of you even watch the 2 videos I posted on this post ???? Sure,I know Freddy Mercury was BI,but who's to say that he didnt have a death bed confessional & was saved........ I guess we'll find out when we get to Heaven & Freddy's in the choir singin his song "Jesus"............ quote:

Yup. Watched the videos...otherwise I don't know what I'm talking about. I have seen some hardcore people 'come to Jesus'...they change....immorality does not just mean homosexuality.......whatever Freddy believed, he lived and died in an immoral lifestyle...hey the guy was over the top talented....no doubt about it...BUT...unfortuneately, that will not grant him a favorable audience with the Lord of Lords. If he had a deathbed confessional...true repentance and salvation, I look forward to shaking his hand in heaven. I have no problem with ANYONE accepting Jesus at the last possible miniute...I do have prob with believing what is not true and conjecture...but we do have the thief on the cross.........

I think one of two things: 1) It is a far cry that a man singing about the story of Jesus, which any old slacker can get out of the bible at any time, turns him into a Christian... it merely, to me, means he is aware of the story of Jesus. 2) Twisted Sister put out a Christmas album about 2-3 years ago... Not Christians. Freddy M grew up as a Parsi, they are an Indian-based Zoroastrian community. He apparently went to St. Peter's, a boy school for Zoroastrian, which according to Religionfacts.com is quote:
Zoroastrianism is the ancient, pre-Islamic religion of Persia (modern Iran). It survives there in isolated areas but more prosperously in India, where the descendants of Zoroastrian Persian immigrants are known as Parsis, or Parsees. In India the religion is called Parsiism. More HERE Not sure where and at what point he would have known about Christ. The only other thought for me is that this song is somewhat maybe sarcastic. ??l But regardless nothing more than a Christmas song about three wisemen. Not much is apparently known either about Mary Austin (Austen).
