Hear that popping sound off in the distance? That's the sound of Bill O'Reilly's head finally exploding, and Norm Coleman's last desperate hope coming to an end. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/06/30/franken.ruling/index.html

Well, that's an unfortunate end to a long fought battle, but I think most around here were ready to be done. The good news is, Franken, like other wealthy liberals who used their name recognition to gain office in Minnesota, will in all probability get bored after one term.

But I still suspect that Coleman will try another last-ditch appeal or two at the Federal level. He's too stupid to quit.

Well, as somebody who is personally aquainted with Coleman, I can assure you he isn't stupid; and I also am fairly certain he is done.

Done as in toast or just out of money? Done as in he has few hopeful options from here; he could appeal Federally, but I don't think even he wants to put his life on hold like that.

Well, of course, that's entirely untrue -- and Coleman never brought that up in court since he knew that it wasn't true either. You should really stop getting your "news" from WorldNutDaily.

Coleman has conceded (only 6 1/2 months after he told Franken he should concede for the sake of unity...) The unanimous court decision against him really left him with little option, and he knew that to continue the fight further was likely futile (I doubt the SCOTUS would have even considered an appeal) and damaging to any future political ambitions he might have. So congratulations Senator-elect Franken. As I've said before, I strongly expect Senator Franken to disappoint the right-winger waiting for him to make some sort of irrational outburst. He knows he has all eyes on him, and I believe he is determined to prove everyone wrong. He will be a strong progressive voice in the Senate and will do a fine job representing Minnesota for the next 5 1/2 years, and likely beyond.

Well, like Bill Clinton and Mark Sanford, (IMO) Coleman is living proof that one can be intelligent and stupid at the same time. Whereas, someone like Michelle Bachman is just stupid all-around. Well, such perceptions would be a lack of familiarity with their accomplishments, not any lack on their part. quote:
Time will tell what kind of senator Al Franken will turn out to be. I hope he does a good job for his constituency. But you know as well as I that right-wing pundits like Bill-O will be all over Al like white on rice looking to scream about any mistake or verbal blunder (be it real or imagined). He is just a rubber stamp for the current administration. I personally don't mind having the Dems completely owning what they are doing (unlike the Republicans who never had these majorities, and had to concede much to Democrats); there will be no doubt in the end as who to blame. Of course, we may have to live with their half-considered measures for some years to come.

No, he will be a rubber stamp and soon grow bored with the realities of producing legislation; and in five years he won't be nearly so novel.

I guess the old adage "Cheaters never win" is proven wrong for the time being. For the sake of the people of Minnesota I hope Franken doesn't utterly decimate them. But, in exactly the same way as Rush said of Obama: I hope Franken fails (at advancing a damaging liberal agenda).

A Freudian slip? Just my secret desire that Franken would fly a kite during an electrical storm. I do have a darker side you know.

Maybe one day, one of Bachmann's accomplishments will include basic literacy and second-grade science.

Maybe one day, one of Bachmann's accomplishments will include basic literacy and second-grade science. You know, she spent five years working as a successful federal tax attorney, and she is on the Financial Services Committee in the House; do you think anyone who has a clue believe mispronouncing a word constitutes a lack of knowledge? If that were true, our current President, and certainly our current Vice-President wouldn't even have been allowed into office. The fact is todd, you don't like her politics, and so you are willing to hypocritically embarrass yourself to throw mud at her.
