Don't feel bad about it, Melissa. Any of us could have done that. Perhaps it happened to remind us all to be careful to check things out.

Meekness is controlled strength. To 'meek' a horse is to break it, train it.

The Lord 'meeks' us through His discipline as well. Job's life is a good example (albeit extreme?) for the Lord's disciplining work in a life.

Discipline is training in righteousness. So the Lord trains us, 'meeks' us, by the experiences we go through in life.

Moses had to be 'meeked' in order for God to use him. In his own strength, he killed a man. That is uncontrolled passion.

This training does not occur over night. It is one experience after another by which we are trained. But God says the result is the peaceful fruit of righteousness.

Good post, Liveloved, but I would add for fullness of understanding:

Moses got training WHILE he stood firm in the face of ungodly opposition.
The same for David when he stood against Goliath.

In this fallen world full of evil and evil misguided men, we will face enemies who seek to destroy us through deception and by force. Much of the Bible reads of many brave men who put on the Armor of God and stood against the enemy, deception and violence in high places... In fact, I don't recall any respectable wimps written about in the Bible, at all.

I'm glad you have found the "peaceful fruit of righteousness." Now, can you pass that on to future generations? I'd like to, but I can't find a peaceful place to lay my head. Some ignorant ungodly fellow citizen keeps coming along and kicking me between the eyes. I'm serious! What has God got in mind for me with this kind of training?
Rusty

I say this in all love, Rusty, but perhaps He is 'meeking' you and you haven't responded His way. I don't know. I'm only a fellow believer in cyberspace so the 'knowing' is very limited.

But I would certainly be asking the Lord, what you are missing, what He is wanting to teach you that you perhaps are neglecting, ignoring, fighting against, or unwilling to submit to.

Nor did I mean to say or even imply that the 'peaceful fruit of righteousness' is mine. Oh, it is sometimes. But I'm certainly not in the place of continuous peace. And I wonder sometimes if that is not reserved for heaven?

Anyway, I doubt that the 'world' where I live is much different than yours. Most of the family, including the church family, sees things very differently than I do. But who listens? No one wants to be told what to do, what to think, how to live, etc. That is a work of the Spirit.

So our work is mostly done on our knees, in our closests.

And believe me, that is a struggle!

Yes, like Paul, I have to beat the flesh into submission. I probably could do better than I do....

Please understand that I love my brothers and sisters in Christ. That is why I am trying so hard to wake them up from the defeated babies milk uninspired teaching that they have recieved for decades.

About the quote at the top of the page; the first thought that popped into my head when I read it was, "Yes, the devil would love to lock all the Christians in their closets and throw away the keys."

Blessings,
Rusty

Good morning Rusty. I thought of that men's group I was thinking about. It's called "Promise Keepers".

Thank you. I know of them, and I have been to two of their gatherings in football stadiums. It was great, but recently I think it has fizzled out. There are more and more men's ministries on the web. I do go to those websites often.

Hmm... next topic? All I can thiink of is something along the lines of finding the kingdom of God-- just to confirm our understanding of the basics and cement it in our hearts. It is an awfully big subject, though.

Blessings,
Rusty got to go to work.

I hear ya, Rusty. I do understand your frustration. But I just don't know about the response. IOW, the life of Jesus is what I look to. I look TO Jesus. He was a pretty quiet man, certainly teaching the truth to all who had ears to hear, loving the unlovable, but I don't see Him challenging the wrongs in the 'world'. The world is wrong. God's word makes it plain that it is only going to get worse. But He wants to find faithful ones on the earth. And I think that means living quiet, gentle lives, speaking and teaching others to love Jesus, and praying. Jesus looked like the defeated one when he was on earth. He wasn't in a position of power. The 'big shots' ruled then as they do today. But Jesus is on the throne. He wants to rule in our hearts. And when He does, we are at peace.

I will pray on.

And ya know, Rusty, there is NOTHING satan hates more than a praying person, on their knees, in their prayer closet. My closest encounters with the evil one have followed intense periods of prayer. You can think he's locked us in and thrown away the keys but Jesus holds the keys and satan is angry. And I'm praising Jesus.\o/\o/\o/

Livedloved, your right about satan, he does hate a praying person. Something I read before that has always stuck with me is:
satan trembles when he sees
the weakest saint on his knees
I also agree that it is when I am praying the most, I get attacked the hardest. For ten weeks I have been praying for america to be revived. From the moment, I started this, I have been attacked with migraine headaches. Im 43, never had a migraine in my life til now. I consider it a spiritual battle that I am engaged in. he wants me to quit prayin, but that's not gonna happen!
Rusty, I admire you for urging the men the way you do. Do not get discouraged. We need more christian men like you willing to do what you do.
Rita, thinking about the next study... how bout along the lines, Seek ye first the Kingdom of God..... Just a thought.

That's two for some form of study on the Kingdom of God.

Topic: The Kingdom of God

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

First we need context, context, context.

So we climb the contextual tree as taught by Howard Hendricks.

And what do we see?

seek
verb 1. look for, pursue, search for, be after, hunt, go in search of, go in pursuit of, go gunning for, go in quest of
verb 2. request, invite, ask for, petition, plead for, solicit, beg for, petition for
verb 3. try, attempt, aim, strive, endeavour, essay, aspire to, have a go at (informal)
Collins Essential Thesaurus 2nd Edition 2006 © HarperCollins Publishers 2005, 2006

When I first read Matthew 6:33 I was just blown away by the truth in it. In my experience, once we have spent real time with the Lord,in pursuit of His Kingdom, seeking knowledge of Him, nothing else holds the same importance. It brings to mind the words of the song "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus"

Turn your eyes upon Jesus.
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

Your right Liveloved, I did take it out of context.

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 ¶ Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Hate to sound dumb, but I don't know who Howard Hendicks is or about his contextual tree, but I do know what I see.

That we're not to worry about things of this world. That's what the rest of the world does. Chases after money and the toys it can buy. But we're to trust Him, keep our eyes on Him and follow where He leads us. He'll take care of the rest. He'll take care of us. If we're busy serving the world how can we be serving Him at the same time? Jesus is our King! We're to serve Him.

LOL, as I began to read your post I began to sing that song in my head, and then there it was! You had posted it!
Thanks sarju60.

And it so true, not that I don't forget sometimes and start to worry about how I'm going to pay a bill or something but that just steals your peace. Like the song says, as we look fully to Jesus, everything else seems strangley dim. It just doesn't matter as much does it.

Howard Hendricks taught at Dallas Theological Seminary and we did a course that he taught called Living By The Book (video teaching). Anyway, it was very worthwhile. We took a number of groups through this course and the context thing was something that really stuck with me.

So he always said to climb the contextual tree and look at what comes before and what comes after. It's a part of the good observation skills that are so necessary for proper understanding of scripture.

So now you know a little more than you did about Howard Hendricks. But I'm glad you asked. You didn't sound dumb to me. . . just in need of more information and that's all of us.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Liveloved. I was hopeing you would.

And I agree, to take scripture out of context can lead to misunderstanding. We always want to know in what context something is said, and to whom it was said, as well as who said it.
And to ask the Lord to help us to understand.

Wow! You guys are talking about context. That is great, because scripture confirms scripture. I can even use scripture to confirm and strengthen the understanding of the lyrics of a song.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus. (I am the way, the Truth, and the life..)
Look full in His wonderful face, (his way, His Truth, and His life)
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim (materialism, striving for wordly things, worry ...)
In the light of His glory and grace. (His love, His salvation, His wisdom, His leading and the blessings that follow being led by Him..)

Love is a wonderful thing. When we love Him first, seeking the way and the Truth and the life, we can then enjoy the love of family, friends, and neighbors who are also turning their eyes on Jesus.

But for me, most of my family is still under deception, not seeing His way, His Truth, and His life. How do I reach them with the good news of the gospel of the kingdom of God? Even while strife, quarrelling, nonsense, infidelity, and suffering is happening among them, they think they have the kingdom of God. Well, maybe they just think they are Christians, while they have no idea what the kingdom of God is/means.

That is my problem.... How do I teach them, when they seem not ready to listen?

Rusty

The expression "Kingdom of God" is used in different ways in different places in the Bible. Jesus was the first to use this expression, it wasn't used "as such" in the Old Testament.

Mark 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

In verse 14 it's refering to the gospel of Jesus Christ, tne plan of salvation. While in verse 15 it's talking about His heavenly kingdom that is soon to come, that will be everlasting.

Mark 4:21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
25 For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
30 And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?
31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
32 But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.

Hear it's speaking of growth in faith and wisdom and knowedge, and following Him. Also of letting others see Him in us that they may desire to know Him also. When this message is also given in Matthew and Luke and the deciples asked the Lord to explain this phable, here is what Jesus said:

Matthew 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:
48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.
49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,
50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Henry Concise: 1. That of the treasure hid in the field. Many slight the gospel, because they look only upon the surface of the field. But all who search the Scriptures, so as in them to find Christ and eternal life, #Joh 5:39, will discover such treasure in this field as makes it unspeakably valuable; they make it their own upon any terms. Though nothing can be given as a price for this salvation, yet much must be given up for the sake of it. 2. All the children of men are busy; one would be rich, another would be honourable, another would be learned; but most are deceived, and take up with counterfeits for pearls. Jesus Christ is a Pearl of great price; in having him, we have enough to make us happy here and for ever. A man may buy gold too dear, but not this Pearl of great price. When the convinced sinner sees Christ as the gracious Saviour, all things else become worthless to his thoughts. 3. The world is a vast sea, and men, in their natural state, are like the fishes. Preaching the gospel is casting a net into this sea, to catch something out of it, for His glory who has the sovereignty of this sea. Hypocrites and true Christians shall be parted: miserable is the condition of those that shall then be cast away.

Luke 13:18 Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?
19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.
20 And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?
21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

Henry Concise: Here is the progress of the gospel foretold in two parables, as in #Mt 13:1-58. The kingdom of the Messiah is the kingdom of God. May grace grow in our hearts; may our faith and love grow exceedingly, so as to give undoubted evidence of their reality. May the example of God's saints be blessed to those among whom they live; and may his grace flow from heart to heart, until the little one becomes a thousand.

LOL, sarju60 and I were just talking about that song on another thread yesterday. I love it!

And it's so true isn't it. As we focus on the Lord and keep our eyes on Him the things of this world just aren't as important. Who cares if my car is old, I see Jesus. Who cares if I can't buy new shoes, I have a heaven't home. Who cares if I much go through this trial or that, Jesus lves me and I am safe in the palm of his hand.

As for our loved ones, all we can do is tell them and let them see the Lord working in our lifes. Let them see His light shining through us as they see the way we handle things differently than the world handles them. We can't make them believe.
I also have loved ones who at best remain baby christians, and at worse aren't truely saved. (I think we all do.) But it's not for me to judge their salvation, that what God's word tells me. All I can do is tell them, and let them see Him in me. I can encourage them, and help them and pray for them, but the rest is up to the Holy Spirit to work in their hearts and how they respond to Him.

yes and for those of us who truly believe, that is so crystal clear to us. We have sought the kingdom of God and we just know that is all we need. God has greatly blessed me but I didn't expect it. The most I ever asked for was enough to pay the bills and I have been richly blessed. Now that could all go tomorrow and would I be upset? Yes. It is nice not to struggle and to have the extras but I know how quickly it can go and I know it isn't important. God provides. He always has. The problem comes in to getting this across to new believers, unbelievers, an dthose who just don't see the need for reading the Bible. I have loved ones who rejoice when they believe a prayer is answered (their way) and say hogwash when they don't get what they want. They don't have that peace. When God says "all these things will be added unto you" I have never taken that to mean we get everything we want, as some preachers would have you believe but how do we make this clear when we quote this to a new believer. They don't understand the things of God. They can only relate to the needs of the world.

I completely agree. I have found that when I placed my priorities correctly and I sought The Kingdom of God FIRST everything else fell into place... I am now Rich in the Messiah, I have Peace and I can testify that GOD has and will continue to faithfully care for me --- and that is something that living in the world has never done for me.

And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. Daniel 2:44 NKJV

In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" Matthew 3:1-2 NKJV

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 1 Corinthians 15:50 NKJV

Please bear with me as I try and understand so I can know/speak/write correctly. Would these following statements be true? If not, please reword them. Thank you.

The Kingdom of God speaks of "right now" being under God's authority which is the plan of salvation, the gospel, the good news that all can be free from the wretchedness of this world and by the blood of Jesus can enter into The Kingdom where God rules righteously.

The Kingdom of God also can be spoken of in the "future" tense --- The time of "a new heaven and a new earth" where there is only God's Kingdom, no worldly kingdoms.

I think You put it very well prayn4u.

Our flesh may still be in the kingdoms of this earth,
but our souls are in the Kingdom of God.

Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

1Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

The cares of this world lead to distruction. The world tells us to keep working at getting more and more, while God's word tells us to be content and focus on Him...
Back to the song "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus".

Yes, you both put it very well, but for me, sparklelingsnow, I understand "heart" better than "soul." ...but our hearts are in the Kingdom of God.
That is just a personal preference, probably something to do with "writing the Word of God on our hearts."

Question: What is the difference between the "kingdom of God" and the "kingdom of heaven?" I base my understanding of scripture on the premise that they are one and the same in the Gospels. Just that the authors of each Gospel had their personal preference for preaching the kingdom of God/heaven. Luke liked "heaven" more so, while Matthew like "God" more so.

What do you think? Because we must have our premises lined up or at least understood (where I am coming from) while we communicate with one another. In other words, if I say something to two people we need both of them to understand the same thing, otherwise we are left confused. Too much of that going on in too many churches you know!

See how I am? I just had to throw that in there! Geeze, Rusty!

Blessings,
Rusty
