Happy July!

McGuinessMagee -> RE: JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/1/2009 5:47:14 AM)

Hello Harvie!

July 1 saw me takimg a day off work and watching Terminator 4 with my family. We also did some clothes shopping. I think we're down to school shoes and one pair of formal school pants needed.

Good morning ladies!

Mollymouser -> RE: JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/1/2009 3:45:55 PM)

Wednesday July 1 ....

My wonderful DH got up bright n' early and flew off at the crack of dawn. He just called to say hello .... said he doesn't know what time he'll be home tonight, but no later than 9 or 10pm. I got up, paid bills, watered plants, fed the cats, picked up some things around the house, went swimming, chatted on the phone with a college friend, and am considering cleaning out the fridge and freezer this afternoon. I also spent some time typing up a list of basic house rules for our french student, and then using various free online translators to translate them into french.

Supposed to be 102 here today.

Harvie, sometimes your world and mine seem so similar... for different reasons, but similar all the same.

Dh left for a job at 6am this morning and does not expect to be home until nearer to Midnight.

Mollymouser -> RE: JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/2/2009 12:52:29 AM)

Well, my DH actually made it home by 8pm, so yay for that!

Kylie ... remind me again, please, what does your DH do?

Now we're watching America's Got Talent. (Which really needs to be renamed to "Weird Americans who THINK they've got talent, but very few actually do")

McGuinessMagee -> RE: JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/2/2009 3:30:09 AM)

He's a security consultant for large commercial/industrial facilities.

Hi everybody. Just signing in for the month.

Some were talking about giving their excess fruit and vegetables away in last month's thread. I'm sure local soup kitchens would appreciate them if you have them nearby. Even if they don't use them in their meals, they'd be great to give to the patrons of the soup kitchen.

Roberta, Amish people on your train? How fascinating! I'm just fascinated about their lifestyle. Sorry your trip wasn't as good as you would have liked though.

Yup, they were on their way to their home in West Virginia.

Hello ladies! I haven't visited this thread in quite some time. Trish, I was thinking of you the other day and I wanted to share this picture with you. She is the newest addition to our family. So Mary is a big sister now!! Veronica was born on the 26th. She is four days in this picture.

PinkCarnations -> JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/2/2009 4:44:16 PM)

Nicole - She is beautiful!!

slushie -> RE: JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/2/2009 9:17:15 PM)

I agree!!!

Mollymouser -> RE: JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/3/2009 1:40:37 AM)

I agree, too!!!!

Happy July 2, everyone! I'm excited that my wonderful DH has a three-day weekend. (Of course, he still will be emailing and there will be a zillion phone calls, but I will still BE with him, woo hoo!)

Locally, we had a big fire start on the southern banks of the San Joaquin River this afternoon/evening ... about 1/2 mile from us. We saw the plumes of smoke and what sounded like a zillion firetrucks. (24 trucks responded, according to the news media.) One home was totally destroyed, two more have extensive damage, and about 20 homes are still evacuated. The firefighters were still fighting the blaze 4 hours after it started (as of 8pm tonight.) The wind was really whipping up, which is pretty scary. (Fortunately, we have a large 6-lane street between us and the neighborhood with the fire.)

PinkCarnations -> JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/3/2009 10:01:35 AM)

Harvie - how is the fire today?

anne-girl -> RE: JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/3/2009 10:22:06 AM)

It is pretty freaky to have a fire near you; there was once a fire in my apartment building, and even though it was contained to one unit, it was pretty frightening.

Makes you think that maybe we should use concrete in home construction too; it does pretty well with containing fires in high-rises.

Miss Giggles -> RE: JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/3/2009 10:33:03 AM)

Fires are scary. Have seen them from a distance but I don't need to be anywhere close to them.

Concretet houses in california would significantly raise the heating and cooling bills. Plus I don't know if they use concrete in earthquake prone areas.

I wouldn't have thought of that; here (central Canada) houses are becoming more and more air-tight and insulated to reduce both the heating and cooling costs; concrete is seen as a material that adapts well to that but is too expensive for single family housing. At least I think that's why it isn't used; I know proponents of "green" construction are trying to encourage its use. However, if houses in the south are built less air-tight, concrete would definitely be a disadvantage.

fluffmonkey -> RE: JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/3/2009 11:38:52 AM)

Harvie, eek to the Fire!! How are things today??

I only have to work a half day today... so I get off at 12:30 but I have to come back to work at 4:30 just to scan and do few reports (ugh)! But atleast I finally get to sleep in on a Saturday for once :) yay!!
I don't really have plans for the weekend... just takin it easy I guess lol

That would be interesting for those of us who like to hang pictures on the walls. [:D]

She is coping quite well. She gives Veronica lots of hugs and kisses, but she also likes to pat her. And well, her pats are not the most gentle in the world. Poor thing has already been konked in the head by toys and has been sat on at least once. So, I think the real question is how is Veronica coping? HA!!

Aloha Ladies. What are your weekend plans???

anne-girl -> RE: JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/3/2009 2:49:38 PM)

Congratulations Nicole! Your post was so subtle I didn't realize it was you that had the baby! [:D]

Weekend plans: date night with DH tonight; Sat/Sun, do laundry, do groceries, cook for the week, study, go to church. Almost the same weekend we have every week. Ah well, the chores have to get done sometime!

It would! I guess you'd have to use 1-inch thick drywall.

4lilMonkies -> RE: JULY Women Only CHAT THREAD! (7/3/2009 6:25:26 PM)

Tonight we aren't doing anything (although it is my birthday). Ryan woke up this morning and had even forgotten about it! It wasn't until my son wished me happy birthday that Ryan remembered! HA!

Tomorrow we will be going to my parents farm for hamburgers and fireworks. Kind of like a family potluck. I'm to bring some watermellon. YUM!!

Sunday we go to church and my "little flower" Veronica will be baptized. After that just hanging out with the family at home. If it is nice on Sunday I may kick the older two out for a couple hours to the swimming pool. They've been inside all day watching an old collection of the Super Mario Bros. cartoon.
