Julia, I am mostly sad. I am trying not to be though. I am trying my best to prayerfully leave everything in God's hands. It's difficult to do though. I have 3 kids here that need to be my focus, there is little besides pray that I can do for E right now. They are living 90 miles away. Thanks. Dee

Oh Dee! Sending prayers and hugs your way! Brian and Ethan are snug as bugs at Webolos camp for scouts. They are in a campsite that is primarily all provisional campers, meaning that there are a bunch of boys and a bunch of dads as all these boys are there without the rest of their packs. Brian posted a facebook update a little bit ago with a good laugh! Apparently there was an adult leader discussing the stars and such with a group of boys and said something to the affect, twice in fact, that "the Moon was "scientifically speaking" a star that orbits the Earth." Oh glory be! That one just has me shaking my head! I took Aryn up to her camp, got her all signed in and settled into her cabin. We also turned in her artwork and one of the teachers/artists that will be working with the kids was all gaga over her little rag doll that she made for her sister! We then moved on to the table where the kids could sign up for a night to perform whatever they wanted to. Aryn brought some of her poetry with her and the camp founder remembered Aryn from our schools fine arts day AND remembered that she was a published poet already and she was so excited about getting Aryn to perform as soon as possible to show other kids that even they are worthy of at least TRYING to get their work published and that it can be done and NOT just in kids magazines! She's performing tomorrow evening - first thing for their first night of performances! She is going to have so much fun! I have to get a letter written tonight and mailed off in the morning! Blessings, Garsy

Thanks Garsy and Danas_mom. That sounds like a great camp Garsy! Julia, still praying for you and your family. Hubby and my two youngest are sleeping outside in the tent trailer. It was set up in the back yard because Emily had a 2 people come for her wedding that needed a place to stay Friday night. The tent trailer in the back yard was the best place for 3 people to spend the night together and it was going to be cool enough, so we set it up. Since it was still up they are sleeping out there tonight. It's supposed to be around 65F for a low tonight, so that's nice. I might have slept out there, but they are spread out in such a way that there's not a good place for me to sleep. Remember the camp vs. band issue? I called K back and talked to her again. She said OK, she'd talk to Jeremy about switching camp weeks. But he was gone, and would be back the next day. The next day (Friday) she said he'd be back at midnight, so she'd talk to Nathan. Nathan was going to give him the message the next day (Saturday), but he ended up calling Jeremy and it was OK for K to staff at camp this week instead of next. She was saved from having to bring all her stuff home when she came for the wedding while she awaited word on when she'd go back. Anyway, that means she'll be home next week for band practice. She decided to not be in the parade this year; that would have meant 4 extra 180 mile round trips to get her to and from practice, and to and from the parade, so I'm OK with that too. I don't think it will affect her grade since she let him know. It would also have given her points towards lettering in band, but I don't think she cares about that, right now anyway. And one set of grandparents picked her up Saturday morning for the wedding, and another grandmother returned her afterwards, so that was great for us. Dee

Okay ... can someone explain to me the concept of "lettering" in a sport or other activity? We don't have that in Ontario -- so really, the only time I hear the term is when I'm watching Grease and Danny letters in track, LOL!

When you make and play on a Varsity team for a year, you get a letter. It is a patch and you put it on a special jacket (it used to be just for sports, but now they have academic letters and band letters and stuff)...the letter is a patch in the shape of the first letter of the school's name. When I was in high school, I was kind of out of it, and our school ( --ugh hated that school, but sorry that's another thread) was Valley Christian, so I thought all the V's simply stood for Varsity...then when I saw that a school called Immanuel had an I, and H........... high had an H, and so on and so forth, I finally realized that the V had stood for Valley, lol. Our high schools are grades 9-12, and Junior Varsity teams are the 9th and 10th graders and Varsity are the 11th and 12th graders.......of course if you're a REALLY good athlete they'll put you on Varsity in any grade, and if you're um.....less talented you might have to settle for being on a JV team even in 11th or 12th grade.

Letters may have a logo that depicts the sport, a basketball for basketball (duh) or a basket with a net. If you letter the following year, our school gave you a gold bar that you'd pin on the letter itself. We lettered in band by showing up - Chorus too. I have heard 'play in so many varsity games' at some schools or 'never miss a game for disciplinary reasons'. I have been really out of sorts lately. Hate that. I told my sweetie I could feel my mood draining the other day.

Kara asked about lettering, and I thought of letterboxing, and wondered did I mention that (E emailed me that her and hubby had gone letterboxing) but then I realized that I mentioned lettering in band. OK. It took me a bit but I've got it all figured out. Garsy, we have some of those white stackable crates next to K's desk. They work pretty well. I need to keep on her about getting their room cleaned out well. E moved out and so a lot is gone from there. It's a good chance to reorganize things how we want them. We'll need to be getting some kind of storage also. I got a call from the church this morning. E applied for a $800 scholarship through the church. Apparently there were two of them, and no one else applied. So she got them both!!! She'll be so excited. I did talk to her, but the lady from church told her she could be surprised tomorrow when she got her mail. So I didn't tell her. Our fair starts this week; hubby and son are at the bull riding renting stadium seats for the scout fundraiser. So just R and I home tonight. Dee

I won a church scholarship way back when and it was only like $300. But that $300 paid for all my books that first year! Blessings, Garsy

Kylie, I'm so sorry J is having to deal with the bullying. We've been packing up the van with some of E's stuff. Hubby will drop it off tomorrow when he goes to pick up K from camp. He'll leave after work. It'll be good to have K back home. Dee
