shakezula -> the 3 Album Challenge (7/1/2009 12:33:35 PM)

with all the debate in the current events folder over musical legacies, i thought i should give you my 3-album challenge (in truth. credit goes to my brother for coming up with it.) here is the theory. it is very, very hard for even the best musical artists to come up with three great albums in a row. only the very best artists can accomplish this. in this challenge, "great" is defined as a 4-or5-star album. if you hesitate when you think the album, it's disqualified. a very good 3-star album is disqualified. the rule is that it has to be three consecutive great albums of original material. no greatest hits or live albums, unless the live album is composed of songs that are not on earlier albums. you can skip over the greatest hits album or live album to make a 3-album streak. these are my qualifiers. i confess my classic rock bias. going from least impressive to most impressive: 5. Neil Young: Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, After the Goldrush, Harvest 4. The Who : Who Sell Out, Tommy, Who's Next 3. The Beatles: Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper 2. Bob Dylan: Bringing It all back Home, Highway 61, Blonde on Blonde 1. (because they did 4 in a row) Rolling Stones: Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main St. a lot of artists almost made the cut. plus i thought the beatles did it a second time, but i checked and saw that Yellow Submarine came out after the White Album, so that ruined their streak. who do you think meets the challenge? EDITED TO ADD: since people found this to be too strict, i'll loosen up/ clarify. first, instead of worrying about all-time great albums, lets just go with three great albums in a row. same rules as above, but they don't have to be albums that are on rolling stone magazine's list . second, you can use any genre you want. it doesn't have to be rock music. if you think there's a rap or jazz or christian artist that pulled it off, offer em' up.
