ORIGINAL: GroupW Nope. A few things may have crossed our minds, but this was not one. True story- my parents did go to a service and got soundly scolded by a little older lately who was quite put out that they had the audacity to show up at church after such "scandalous" behavior the prior evening. wow, I but HER husband had an exciting marriage. (if she ever got married that is) How sad that people think that way, it is sooo ungodly. AS for the honeymoom bit, we didnt go to church, In fact we never go to church when we are on holiday. I really dont think God is too horrified that we didnt, in fact I am sure he isnt actually worried if we miss the odd service, He is with us anyway if we do or dont. To me this 'having to go to church' whatever, is just pure religion and not relationship.

I knew a few people like that...sadly. We did not. I know of one guy who was on lay staff at his church. THey had a late evening wedding (7 or 8 pm) and he was at the pre-service staff meeting less than 12 hours later, taught a sunday school class, sang in the choir and was in another staff meeting most of the afternoon..... Not my idea of a good way to start off a marriage. He disagreed, saying that the Lord's work always had to come first. Good ness. I am sure The lord would have quite happy if had thought of his wife on this occasion. People always take things too far . Maybe he thoguht he was indespensible. Glad he isnt my husband.

NO, and I certainly don't regret not going to church the next day. We are faithful in our attendance the rest of the time, but that Sunday morning we left for our honeymoon.

Thinking of missing church as a sin at all is rather questionable thinking, IMO. Missing it because you don't feel like going is a bit different, but even then I think it's not sinning so much as shooting yourself in the foot. Thinking of it as a sin approaches the Catholic view where there is a weekly obligation to attend Mass; a Catholic friend of mine who was perennially running late said that as long as you got there in time to hear the reading of the Gospel, the obligation was fulfilled. That said, I'd agree that "just having your own church service" is a poor excuse; I think that's the way to go when there's no church available, but otherwise it's a bit silly. I sure never had a worship service on my own with my husband. The whole point is to share with the wider community.
