Matthew 24:12
And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.

Does anyone else get a huge conviction like me when it comes to love in todays world? Im at a huge secular university and no one cares anymore. People are so into themselves, listening to Ipods, and faithless. Anyone else notice this today?

I agree with your observation. I work with a guy who loves to talk, mostly about how great he is and all the things he's done. Not sure how much is really true. Too many people are not concerned about the welfare of others. Meaning they do not consider other people when they do what they do. My church has a saying written on the cover of our sunday bulletins that says "Love God, love people, serve others". I think this sums up the christian walk well.

I have found over and over agan that Gods word speaks to meeting the needs of others and you will find God meets your needs. What you have need of will quickly arrive when you focus on Loving God, loving people and serving others. It's not about us, it's about Gods kingdom first. Outward focussed not self focussed.

People more and more are content to be alone in a crowd, and the only crime is encroaching on one's perceived private space. Those who have never been to the alter, are not the 'falling away' is describing, IMO, but the 'faithful' who want to be entertained by God, rather than serving Him. That, falling away, can be seen more and more, in some Bible teaching church groups. Fewer and fewer oldsters are staying, and hardly any youngsters are joining.

I want to cry, each service, to see seating for over three hundred, filled by thirty. Laodicea comes to my mind, and the resistance to waking up to their plight, astounding, even to being hostile. Sad.

Come soon, dear Lord, Come soon.

In Messiah. Arley

Torahlessness has, indeed, increased and is encouraged.

I have said it before in many of these Threads. No one is teaching people HOW to love. God is love, therefore love without God's Truth is not love. And certainly love that loves sin is not love.

Seek first His kingdom....

That is why we need to pray for these people for only God can change them from thier ways.... And show them His love lets pray that they will come to repentance and be safed.....For the power of prayer is great and when one or two are praying for the some thing them it will be answered Love Jane

Sadly, that is the way it is, and it is a sign of the end times. The family has lost its value in society, divorce is a common occurence and it is encouraged, children do not receive love at home, christian values are vanishing...it is a time to show the love of God to the lost, it is this love that attracted me to my Savior and it is this love that all people need, it is the time to witness with our lives the love of God and preach the Gospel, like Rusty said it is the time to teach how to love and it can only be accomplished through Christ...

TMeeks -> RE: The Love of Many Will Grow Cold (7/2/2009 12:10:22 PM)

What 'they' do doesn't concern me as much as how 'we' react to the coldness of the present culture. Do we get angry? Do we get upset? Do we get anxious?

If so, is that REALLY where we should be going? Is that where we should be placing our focus?

I can think of no worse civilization, in terms of filth and degradation, in which to birth God's Church than that of Nero's Rome. Yet, it thrived and shined in the darkness.

All is not lost because the world's heart has grown cold. But, if in reaction, God's children's hearts also grow cold then that is a great tragedy. Each of us must guard against that each and every day.

slushie -> RE: The Love of Many Will Grow Cold (7/2/2009 12:44:50 PM)

I just watched a video resume of a guy... all he did was brag about the great things he had done. While it was rather comical (he didn't get the job) it was sad at the same time.

In reaction to seeing the coldness around us, we should not allow ourselves to get discouraged, tired, burnt out, or just cold or even lukewarm.

TMeeks -> RE: The Love of Many Will Grow Cold (7/2/2009 7:46:00 PM)

Funny story time!

When I was in high school John Wellemeyer, a fellow tuba player, and close friend, came into band practice and was fuming about a guy with whom he'd just been talking. "What's wrong?", I asked. John retorted, "That guy is such a jerk! All he does is talk about himself and tell me how great he is! I HATE him!!!"

"But, John...", I grinned, "I'm always telling you how great I am and we're still friends!"

With that, John paused and looked intently at me for a second... rolled his eyes and then shook his head in denial and said...

"Yes, But, YOU can't POSSIBLY mean it!" <Drum shot!>[sm=shocked.gif]

NOTE: After high school and college I shot documentaries in video and John shot documentaries in film. But, I didn't learn this until upon his untimely death I read it in his obituary. It's interesting that friends that loved playing the same instrument (Tuba) would have also chosen such similar careers. John was a great friend with, as evidenced above, a quick wit and wry sense of humor. [:D]

In Nero's time they preached the kingdom of God and the Truth, "I tell you the Truth." I have heard too much watered down truth.... kind of leaves people thinking, "I'm okay. You're okay. All is well."

Ac 28:31 Boldly and without hindrance he preached the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.

"Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness...."

It is a lot better than living in a colc cold world!

That's exactly what I am doing each day. Each day I am dying to this fallen sinful world and living progressively more for the Lord Jesus and His Kingdom. It's amazing how nothing even compares to Him in this evil world. Nothing can hold back the power of Jesus!

Praise the Lord!!!!

The kingdom of God is about giving love, staying innocent, and knowing/speaking the Truth.

Giving love can brighten anothers face. I especially like to see a happy smile come across a child's face, and I like to see light bulbs come on in their heads. Working with adults is a little more difficult, but just as good.

Stay innocent so others don't have ammunition to use against you--IN THIS COLD COLD WORLD THEY ARE LOOKING FOR AMMUNITION.

Study and pray to know the Truth. However, speaking the Truth in this cold cold world sometimes makes enemies. Be wise, be kind, be firm in your beliefs and always be ready to give an answer based on scripture.

Blessings,
Rusty

It's nothing new. Perhaps our (yours, mine and some others) awareness of it has grown. After many years of public service it has occurred to me that many of the social problems we have are a result of our inability/unwillingness to love just as Christ loves us. We all want someone to respond to the misery we see each and every day. Yet, all too often we fail to see what God puts before us each and every day once we're away from our TV screens.

mvic -> RE: The Love of Many Will Grow Cold (7/3/2009 4:52:42 AM)

Let's see if I can summarise: Love is cold. It is dead. There's no love amongst people ... and words to that effect.

Now let me add to this summary: God is alive. His love is alive. He loves us all equally. He is not hiding away crying in despair.

So cheer up everyone.

I say in response, "Repent for the kingdom of heaven is near."

If you know history you must admit that there are times of increasing darkness, coldness, and times of renewal. Let's not pretend all is well until that renewal comes. It must start somewhere. Why not with us?

"""He is not hiding away crying in despair."""

Yes, He is not hiding, but He may be somewhat grieved over the condition of mankind and Christianity at this time in history. You will notice in the Old Testament and in this Christian era (The past 2000 years) that things always get very dark and cold prior to an awakening and/or a judgement. Perhaps it is this way in order to convict as many as will seek Him. It is not His desire that any should perish.--2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

So, hopefully God will send some wise men to call us back to Him and renew our land... our churches, and our families.

Rusty

Matthew 24:12
And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.

Does anyone else get a huge conviction like me when it comes to love in todays world?

Greetings

Jesus was not speaking of the world whereby the love of many will grow cold, He is speaking to Christians

For example; I have many times in the past few weeks been caught up because to all the garbage going on under this administration I have found myself wanting to go out kick some you know what[:(] OT style....

Its stuff like that...because lawlessness will be increased is what Jesus was speaking of... it has a way to make one want to put down the sword of the Spirit and pick up a real one ...if you know what mean...

51 And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. 52 But Jesus said to him, "Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.

So when I catch myself growing cold... I fall back to verse

53 Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?

And watch
[;)]

LastofAll -> RE: The Love of Many Will Grow Cold (7/12/2009 4:05:27 PM)

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2 Tim 3:1-5
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
2 Tim 3:13
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2 Tim 4:3-4

Callousness and indifference shall be increased and intensified, not only in general society, but also in the very bosom of the church.

Then there are those people that God has placed to cross our path and we stop and notice the love that is in their hearts. Maybe some people have let their love for God and other people dim, but not all. I think because of it's rarity it stands out so much more (love) when you come across it! I had just such an experience this summer while on vacation. I always pray before I leave on a trip that God use me in some way. I was so surprised that He used the people whose home we shared (a bed and breakfast) to minister to me! I can honestly say that I have never met a couple quite like this couple. The love in their hearts was so evident and a real pleasure to behold. I feel so blessed to have met this couple.

Walker311 -> RE: The Love of Many Will Grow Cold (7/12/2009 7:28:53 PM)

We live in an environment where more people are into themselves. What they want, how they look, who they hang out with. However, love is alive and well and I often see selfless acts of love toward others and it is an encouraging thing.

Oh yeah, bingo! I agree with you 100%. Lovelessness and busyness are the spirits of this final age.

jn1010lf -> RE: The Love of Many Will Grow Cold (7/12/2009 9:36:06 PM)

Consider 2 Timothy 3:1-4. But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.

So, I certainly agree with your impressions. It's all the more reason why we should let our light shine so that others may see God in us.

Have you tried to find other Christians at the University you attend? Maybe all of you could ban together and share the love of Jesus with others. I'm sure there are some unbelieving students that are seeking for a foundation that they don't have.
