Does anyone here like the Imperials? What are your favorite songs? Do think they may come out with a new album at some point?

These Imperials or these Imperials? The first group no. The second yes.

In the early 80's, they, along with Amy Grant were what got me interested in CCM. A friend at college played me "Water Grave" from the Sail On album, and I was pretty impressed. Sadly, once Russ Taff left the group a few albums later, I lost interest fairly quickly. But still, the albums they made with Russ Taff singing lead and Michael Omartian producing (One More Song For You and Priority) were, for their time, a high water mark for CCM in general that wasn't surpassed until Amy hit her Age to Age/Straight Ahead era. Anything post Taff/Omartian is best aproached with care.

I became a Christian in 1984 and started listening to the Imperials around that time. One of my favorite songs from them is either called "Jericho" or the "Walls of Jericho." My favorite Russ Taff CD is "The Way Home." There isn't a song I don't like on there.

Yes, I used to listen to them. I guess I became a bigger fan during the late 80's. Russ Taff I was a fan during his heyday as well.

This may not be the place to bring this up, and it's not like I haven't said it before, but has there ever been another CCM artist who had as much talent as Russ Taff and then did so little with it? Did he produce anything worth hearing after The Way Home? The "Sinatra lite" Christmas album. Singing with Bill Gaither. Bill Gaither?!? Come on. The guy has/had one of the most incredible voices anywhere and he settled on a NashVegas try at crossing over to country. I truly don't mean to bash the guy, but I really think he could have done so much more (or at least remained relevant) had he stuck to his original game plan. Walls of Glass, Medals, and the Russ Taff albums were all top notch - groundbreaking, even. I just wonder what happened to make him loose his edge so quickly.

I credit it to bad marketing, I mean "The Way Home" would have been right at home on Country radio, no pun intended. He tried lots of styles near the end of his recording career.

My favorite song was probably In The Promised Land, they played it seemingly everyday on the New York Christian radio station I listened to when i was a kid.
