Since participating in this debate, not only have I had to preach on the subject from Ezra 9, but I also have 3 interesting (and very different) situations going on in the church in relation to this topic. Is God up to date and relevant to what is happening in our ministries or what?
I too, will not perform the marriage of a Christian and non-Christian. Marriage is a spiritual binding of two into one. What fellowship does light have with darkness? There are other outlets for those who want to be married.
There are those in this county that perform marriages and funerals for very little. The county will give out a list of those who don't mind compromising for the additional income it affords. I won't do funerals for the county because of the regulations prohibiting what you can and can't say during the service.
Praise the LORD!!! First and foremost before I'd even begin to consider marrying any couple, they'd have to have some marriage counseling first. To little preparation is put into most marriages today and they're entered into unprepared. In this, the true Christian spirit of both would be found. For as was mentioned not all 'confessing' believers truly are and at times those that don't profess faith, actual are. Strange but true! But no, I'd not marry an unequally yoked couple! This even in the case of an expecting couple. These would truly need more counseling as to the benefits of child rearing by a Christian couple as compared to that of the unfaithed! I serve GOD and not numbers and am bound by HIS WORD as to the standards I must abide to.
