I'm new to this forum, but really enjoying the book reviews. Does anyone have suggestions of good books for teens? My 14 year old daughter is having a hard time finding decent reading material. She's read the Twilight series (which I read first and was okay with) but I can't pre-read everything she picks up!

My 15yo dd loves the Cherub series by Robert Muchamore. She started reading them when she was 14.

What kind of books does she like?
If she liked Twilight, she might enjoy Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman. Not as much romance, but still a fun fantasy read.

I love Francine Rivers and she has a book called Redeeming Love. I think I read it when I was about 16. It is based on the book of Hosea in the Bible, but it is a fiction, and a romance. Also, there is a series by Robin Jones Gunn (it is a series of small books) called The Christy Miller Series. I LOVED this series! I think every girl should read it (just my opinion, of course). Also, I remember a book that I would love to find again and read called The Princess by Lori Wick. I hope one or more of these are helpful - They were a few of my favorites!

Terri Blackstock has some good books... not really teen per say but they are christian and great.

I also really enjoy Melody Carlson... she has great series... like the Diary of a Teenage Girl and True Colors there's also several other series... not exactly romance but still amazing!

LuLurne McDaniel...her books often have a Christian component and are romances (and tear-jerkers)...

Do you think she would be up to reading Jane Austen? Romance, social commentary, wit...but sometimes young teens don't have the patience for her books.

Caroline B. Cooney has a time travel/romance series that my older daughter liked.

Josh McDowell has some great teen books, called "The Powerlink Chronicles" They are quite old, (about 15+ yrs) so you'll probably have to search out the used book stores and ebay/amazon to find them. There are 3 books in the original series. "Under Siege", "Love Killers", and "Truth Slayers". They are what the author calls novelplus books. After each chapter there is a short essay that talks about the temptations, or whatever happens in each chapter and the Christian perspective..
Great books. I have read them a couple of times, and even as an adult am now reading them again!!

The "Enders Game" series by Orson Scott Card is a great series of books for teenagers and really people of all ages.
They chronicle the life of a super intellectual child named "Ender Wiggin". Probably the second best book series I have ever read, right behind the
"Harry Potter" series.
There are 9 major books in the series, a couple short stories, and one still to be written.
You have
Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow, which are parellel books of the same events from 2 different characters' perspectives. One is from Ender's point of view and the other from Bean's point of view.

Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind are the 3 sequels that deal with Ender, but for spoiler reasons, I won't go into the details.

Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, and Shadow of the Giant are the 3 sequels that deal with Bean's character

There is a collection of short stories called First Meetings that I would consider to be good, but not must reads in the series.

The same with A War of Gifts. Same threads but still a non-essential book

The newest book is called Ender in Exile, which is the first direct sequel to Ender's Game. It is a must read!!!

Card still has one to release called Shadows in Flight, which is the final book in Bean's thread.

Card is a good writer, but I wonder if the Enders series really appeals to a lot of teen girls.

Madeline L'Engle's Time Quartet is a good SF&F series with the main character being a girl (although one book in the series is really her younger twin brothers in a time travel story).

Also, Ted Dekker's Black, Red and White (Circle trilogy). Mainly fantasy/Christian allegory, but there's also a suspense component and romance in them. I think that trilogy might appeal to girls more than the Ender series.
