Hello to all! There may be a select few of you who remember me from my days on the CMC forums years ago, but I digress...

The youth pastor of my church (who is also a friend of mine) will be leaving next month to accept a position at another church. So, of course, we're going to want to put together the traditional and overdone (but still touching PowerPoint slide show with accompanying music. I'd like to use as much Christian music as possible so as to avoid stepping on any toes, as I'm sure the finished project will be viewed by the church at large, although I am planning on working in "For Good" from Wicked. I'm wondering what songs you would suggest for something like this? Youth focused is more than fine, after all, this is the youth pastor, but I'm also hoping for at least one song the "older generation" can connect with as well.

And, on a somewhat unrelated note, if you have anything that I might share with the students on Wednesday (when they find out), I'd greatly appreciate it. I haven't been asked yet but I do feel led to address them after the announcement is made, and I want to have at least an idea of what I'm going to say.

Well the older generation (my age group) could probably connect well with Friends by MWS. I personally think the song is overdone, but a lot of people really like it.

I think Rich Mullins had a song that was about saying goodbye to friends as well. All of my CDs are still being shipped to me, so I can't go check for you. I'm thinking that Chris Rice, Mitch McVicker and Todd Agnew all have some songs that deal with saying goodbye to loved ones, but I'm not sure. Dang! I gotta stay out of this forum, it makes me realize how much I miss my music!

What about the song from The Sound of Music when the kids were all going to bed after the party?

A little group I used to love - Big Tent Revival.

I think the name of the song is "One More Song" and it's pretty cool, pretty easy, and I've seen it used at a couple of "changing of the guard" ceremonies at church's.

"Lord, give me one more song!"

Oh, I love that song. Too bad my one and only BTR CD got lost. I haven't heard that song in years.

I think "One Step at a Time" by Jordin Sparks is alright. It's not necessarily saying goodbye or adios but it could go for a lot. It can be very meaningful

Many years ago I had a CD called "Voice" by Pauper's Field. They were on a little-known Christian label called Cling Recordings (best known for releasing the first Eternal Decision album), which has long since bit the dust. Anyway, the album itself was kind of artsy prog... but the last track was a haunting acappella track titled "Farewell My Friends":

quote:

Farewell my friends I'm bound for Canaan
I'm travelling through the wilderness...
I go away behind to leave you
Perhaps never to meet again
But if we ever have the pleasure
I hope we'll meet on Canaan's land

I have long since lost (or sold) the CD... but the track has stuck out in my mind. Probably would be impossible to find... but thought I'd mention it just in case.
