Bad idea.

The original was great. Leave it alone!

A re-imagining, I could almost see. A sequel? It's not the sort of story that lends itself to a sequel. It was all wrapped up far too neatly at the end.

That said, if there is one, I know DH will drag me to go see it, and I won't be nearly as reluctant as you'd think.

Of course, I'm sure the original Goonies would get an R rating these days instead of PG. There's no way a sequel with kids in it could get away with what they did back then.

I've seen the movie at least a hundred times and I can't remember any scene that would get it an R rating. Chunk says the "s" word a couple of times but that's all I can think of. Any violence was of the cartoon variety.

Actually it has quite a long string of profanity, references to sexual torture devices and drugs right at the beginning of the movie. There's no way it would get a PG rating these days. And I daresay any sequel that has kids in it will have no profanity.

Oh! You're talking about the part where Mouth (Corey Feldman's character) is translating spanish to the housekeeper LOL! That scene was funny. I don't think it sounded horribly bad.

I loved this movie! We got the DVD.

A remake - maybe. But please no sequel . I heard there was a sequel for Lost Boys which people said was horrible. I haven't wasted my time to bother seeing it.

THE GOONIES 2 (2009)

Couldn't find much out there about it right now, but it looks like it a go. I don't particularly like the original, anyway.

What are you, some kind of commie?

From the first link: "This sequel to the '80s flick will find the stars of the first film reuniting 20 years later (along with their kids) to solve a new mystery."

Somebody wake me up when it's over.

I dunno; DH got me into Battlestar Galactica because he loved it as a kid, and the reimagined version was even better. So maybe this will be the same way; Goonies is lovable but dated in the same way the original BSG was.

I still can't believe my parents didn't let me watch it as a kid because they thought it'd be too scary for me. I was eight at the time.

And I think this is why they are making all these remakes. I was just commenting to DH about this. He told me they're doing a remake of Karate Kid??? Wil Smith's son is going to be in it. I guess they want to modernize all these classic movies. Can't they just leave the classics alone. Are they going to remake everything for a new generation?

It's easier than coming up with something original.

True. Who needs creativity? Just look at reality TV

Reality TV is still pretty scripted; it's just a whole lot easier to recycle the same plot for every episode.

I just don't get why all of a sudden, they figure that nobody can enjoy entertainment as a product of the era in which it was made. They haven't started rewriting Charles Dickens so a younger generation can get it, so why rework movies that are only a generation old? It puzzles me.
