Ok I am studying the book of Hosea and am writing about Gomers children- one is named Jezreel because
Hsa 1:4 NKJV - Then the LORD said to him: "Call his name Jezreel, For in a little [while] I will avenge the bloodshed of Jezreel on the house of Jehu, And bring an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.
Hsa 1:5 NKJV - It shall come to pass in that day That I will break the bow of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel."
In a commentary I see the story of Jezebels death mentioned that the area called Jezreel where Jezebel died was cursed and that her murder was the bloodshed mentioned in Hosea 1:4. So I read near the end of 2 Kings 9 about her death and am trying to crack this puzzle.
What is the bloodshed of jezreel and why is God goign to avenge it.
A second question came to mind from the beginning of 2 Kings 9 how Elisha instructed a servant of his to take some oil anoint a dude as king and flee - so I then read his following actions in verse 4 to 10 and instead of doing the simple things Elisha told him to he adds in a whole bunch of stuff abotu revenge and kill and stuff - that apparently was not what Elisha told him to do- is this so? Was that the misuse of prophecy and responsibility by Elishas servant

Concerning the Valley of Jezreel : It was at the city of Jezreel where Jehu slaughtered the house of Ahab. "You shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel." 2 Kings 9:7 This was God's will. But just as He used Jehu to be His instrument of vengeance on Ahab's house Jehu was over zealous and His heart was not right in God's sight. The valley of Jezreel is a very significant area concerning end time events as well. its called Esdraelon and extends 10 miles in breadth from the Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea,near Carmel. It is the place also called Valley of Megiddo and the valley of Jehoshaphat which will become an avenue of blessing when the Lord returns in triumph.

My John MacArthur Study Bible says in the notes about this verse in the following chapter: "So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining." 2 Kings 10:11. Jehu killed all Jehu went beyond God's mandate and executed all of Ahab's officials, a deed for which God later judged Jehu's house. (Hosea 1:4) I hope this helps.
