When I was a teacher, I stumbled across the realization that the best way for a child to master a subject was for that child to teach it. So, the children were given various lessons to prepare for their classmates and the children were in charge of teaching that topic. Invariably they mastered their particular topic and surprisingly did a great job of teaching their fellow students.

Little did I realize that I was helping them to organize their brains better. I didn't have a clue. It was just something that I stumbled upon because I realized that I learned best when I was called on to teach.

I now know WHY it worked as well as it did. But, I only wish that I'd had the BEST way for them to organize their teaching so that not only did it stimulate their brains to think more deeply; but, the brains of their fellow students in their presentation.

We rarely think about it. But, the brain does its own thinking without our realizing it as it tries to consolidate all the information we take in. Knowing that we will have to teach is just one part of helping the brain to become more organized.

Thinking is like swimming in a river or strong current. All of us can thrash around in the water and keep from going under for a while. But, only those swimmers that know how to flow with the natural current get very far.

Schooling takes a lot of years. Learning to REALLY learn takes a few days or a couple of weeks, depending on how much time you can put into it. But, that relatively short period of time is SO WORTH IT. For, it will help your children swim WITH the nature current of their INDIVIDUAL brains for the entire rest of their lives.

As I've said before, I was a Christian school teacher, and my students from 30 years ago still seem to find me, so I must have done at least OK for them. And, I was a trainer of trainers for head start. Yet, at 65 I am just now really learning to learn! I am becoming a better learner at 65, the age when most people think brains start to fail, then I ever was at 10, 20, 30 or 40 thanks to the wonderful research Dr. Leaf has made available.

God NEEDS your brain. God NEEDS your CHILD'S brain. For it is through your brain and their brain that he blesses the world through you and them. It is in the brain that we take in His principles and it is out of the brain that we witness to His glory. And, that is why I am so excited in finding a way for us, as Christians, to learn how God made our brain, how it stores memory most effectively and how to PERMANENTLY keep close to 100% of what we study rather than the normal 10% to 20%. Plus, it's fun. The brain LIKES it!

So, I hope you will forgive me for seeming like a one note trumpeter. I LOVE learning. I always have. And, I love to see children loving to learn and developing a sense of awe and wonder at the incredible work of God. I also have tremendous respect for parents that care about their child's education and learning. And, every homeschool parent that I know fits that description.

Interestingly enough, most homeschoolers are well tuned into working these things out with each individual child.....we have to be.

First of all, we recognize that each child is an individual...and regardless of what anyone says...each person learns differently. We all have to learn the same things...but we absorb and utilize it so differently.

Second of all...we recognize it is our HEARTS that God desires....while our brain takes in the information, and processes it...until we absorb it into our HEARTS and SOULS...we are useless. The most intelligent person on earth who knows how to learn the most effectively is nothing more than clanging tin cans if they cannot love and be the hands of God to those around them. NOT saying that learning is not important...it is....but loving and caring and being active in serving God are far more important.

I have no doubts Dr. Leaf has some great techniques...but even Dr. Leaf's techniques do not fit every child or every situation.

But I agree....to stop learning is to shrivel and die.....

Isn't this thread similar to the one you already started?
