Welcome to August ladies. Another month closer to Christmas. Warm for those in the northern hemisphere and cold for those in the southern.

Come and chat with your friends about what's going on in your life.

Welcome to those who've never been with us before. We don't bite...much. LOL!

Disclaimer: I bite! (grin)

Saturday August 1 ... my house is now empty of teenage boys and all is right with the world. Well, somewhat. I just spent 20 minutes pulling taffy out of the carpeting in my guest bedroom, and 30 minutes getting the French porn (yes, porn!) off the computer ... and now I have a mountain of wet towels and dirty sheets to wash. He also managed to break a surprising number of items in and around our house in 20 short days -- things that even the cats didn't manage to break. Needless to say, now that our 3-week experiment of being a foreign exchange student host family is over, we WON'T be doing this again. Still, it was an interesting cultural experience and an adventurous foray into the wild world of parenting. Cats are just so much easier, ya know?

I was rather hoping for a quiet weekend at home with my wonderful DH, but he got called into work and has to fly a mission tonight (probably 5pm - 12 midnight.) Oh well. And then he announced he has a staff meeting tomorrow morning for 4 hours (Sunday) .... so it looks like it will be REALLY quiet and peaceful around here. Oh well, at least I can walk around in my PJs all day, if I want, right? And do laundry! LOL! I also need to get some bills paid since it's the first of a new month. New month? New bills.

August 17 school starts here .... so, 2 more weeks of crowded stores and noisy neighborhoods ... and then it gets eerily quiet. When does school start for your areas?

Well Harvie, it sounds like you foreign exchange student has made a bad name for foreign exchange students. Sound like mommy and daddy did not teach him how to behave.

I know that feeling. I got a jumpstart on it this month. I'm already up to the 10th.

It was my turn to chase the dogs out this morning so everyone else is still in bed. I'm thinking about making two hot chocolates and going back to snuggle with dh.

School starts for Linz the 13th, and Mike goes off to college on the 21st. She won't be able to go with us to move him in since she'll be in school. Mike will be about 2 hours away. He doesn't drive so he'll have to depend on his roommate or his cousin to get him home, when he feels like coming back that is.

Yeah. We refinanced our house loan yesterday and got 4.875 fixed for 15 years. I thought that was a great rate. We were at about 6.5%. We plan on making extra payments to get it paid off in 10.

Hope they weren't Rotary Exchange students.

USD 465 starts Aug. 31. Our homeschool starts after Labor Day.

Apparently school starts for my town on August 31, but Sept 8 everywhere else in the province (it's usually after Labour Day). This has caused more than one summer scheduling issue with camps etc who all assume that everybody's "last week of summer" is actually the first week of Sept. Would cause issues for us too if we had kids since we're going to a wedding out of town on Aug 28 and spending a week out there.

Sounds to me like it was a good idea that the exchange students ar gone. Gross to the porn on your computer! If I'd seen it before he/they'd left, I would have been getting them to get the taffy out of the carpet. Their mess, they clean it up. Oh well, your home is back to being YOUR home again.

I would definately agree with this. I have hosted 3 foreign exchange students (2 from Japan and 1 from Brazil) and they were all very polite and great to be around. I think Pierre is an exception to the rule and not the norm. If you ever feel inclined to do it again, Harvie, you will probably have a much better experience next time.

I have no clue...but for us, school starts back up when I get everything moved and organized again (min, a week-max, a month)

Harvie...maybe you should try another country before you totally swear them all off.

This was her 2nd go round. The first time didn't work out well, either. I'm not sure she'll want to try again.

Our county/city made The New York Times... for terrible reasons. The courthouses had to close; the people who work for the county have been on unpaid leave because the county is bankrupt. We won't declare a state of emergency; we won't declare bankruptcy... but there's no money to pay anyone... no money to keep the courthouses open. I wonder how we'll get out of it.

Schools around here usually start in mid- to late August; it seems like every year, the day moves up. I remember when I was in high school, every year, we started a week earlier.

As has been pointed out, that was our SECOND foreign exchange student. We've had one female, and one male. One from Europe, one from Asia. Two different foreign exchange student companies. My wonderful DH just said "never again!" So that's that. We've decided that it's just easier to foster Golden Retrievers! (grin)

Solo ... local and State governments all over the U.S. seem to be running out of money.... primarily because sales and property tax revenues are down -- and unlikely to improve in the forseeable future. At some point, the "powers that be" will have to start making choices about what services they have funding for, and which ones they don't.

We ran some errands this afternoon -- I used a list and everything -- and came home only to realize I'd forgotten butter and eggs. Hmmmmf .... still not sure how THAT happened. Oh well, I will head out again later this week. Tonight's dinner was chicken, fresh spinach, and a yummilicious tomato-and-radish salad. We visited three different stores, and by then I was out of steam to do much else. I'll probably have to sneak out Monday or Tuesday to go and pick up some prescriptions.

I was thinking a lot today about how Jesus calmed the storm for his Disciples, and I was (once again) so very grateful that He continues to calm the storms in my life.

Oh Harvie, glad that's over with.

We're having the roof done this week and Spending a few days at Cedar Point in Ohio. The kids are thrilled and I am thrilled for them. I will ride a few slower rides and hang out by the pool or beach, which ever is nicer. I'm hoping the weather is nice.

High School starts on the 26th and I can't wait. Oh, I'll miss them, but ...

Love our new church(OPC), kind of small, but very family oriented. Not a whole lot of programs, thank God and no CCM. I need calm in my life these days and this is perfect. Semi liturgical and hymns, Westminster Confession, things like that. And awesome teaching. Been missing that for awhile.

Or they could just "borrow" more money and put us another trillion dollars in debt...

The county is currently $4 billion in debt. They said if we declare bankruptcy, it'd be the largest municipal declaration in US history... They're avoiding it like the plague. I just wonder where money is supposed to magically appear from, but I have a feeling we've already been borrowing. I want to say Scrushy took it all , but we've had plenty of people in trouble for millions that have mysteriously gone missing.

I see I've been making you laugh with my last few posts.

I really don't mind some CCM, but for the most part I don't care for it in church bceause I think it's too weak. AND I'm done with being entertained. I've been on that side of the fence and let me tell you the grass isn't always greener! In fact it's pretty dried up and brown. I want meat and more meat. Plus my hormones are starting to go a little wack and .. well you know ... .

Dooing laundry, cleaning and grocery shopping. I think dd wants to go to IKEA too.

Solo, I can see why your township is hesitating over bankruptcy... nobody wants to be remembered for setting that kind of precedent, but you're right. Money doesn't grow on trees for governments any more than it does for the people.

Agreed! Although they can be a bit flighty as dogs go, I can pretty much guarantee they will never leave porn (French or otherwise) on your computer.
