Welcome to August ladies. Another month closer to Christmas. Warm for those in the northern hemisphere and cold for those in the southern. Come and chat with your friends about what's going on in your life. Welcome to those who've never been with us before. We don't bite...much. LOL!

Disclaimer: I bite! (grin) Saturday August 1 ... my house is now empty of teenage boys and all is right with the world. Well, somewhat. I just spent 20 minutes pulling taffy out of the carpeting in my guest bedroom, and 30 minutes getting the French porn (yes, porn!) off the computer ... and now I have a mountain of wet towels and dirty sheets to wash. He also managed to break a surprising number of items in and around our house in 20 short days -- things that even the cats didn't manage to break. Needless to say, now that our 3-week experiment of being a foreign exchange student host family is over, we WON'T be doing this again. Still, it was an interesting cultural experience and an adventurous foray into the wild world of parenting. Cats are just so much easier, ya know? I was rather hoping for a quiet weekend at home with my wonderful DH, but he got called into work and has to fly a mission tonight (probably 5pm - 12 midnight.) Oh well. And then he announced he has a staff meeting tomorrow morning for 4 hours (Sunday) .... so it looks like it will be REALLY quiet and peaceful around here. Oh well, at least I can walk around in my PJs all day, if I want, right? And do laundry! LOL! I also need to get some bills paid since it's the first of a new month. New month? New bills. August 17 school starts here .... so, 2 more weeks of crowded stores and noisy neighborhoods ... and then it gets eerily quiet. When does school start for your areas?

Hope they weren't Rotary Exchange students. USD 465 starts Aug. 31. Our homeschool starts after Labor Day.

Apparently school starts for my town on August 31, but Sept 8 everywhere else in the province (it's usually after Labour Day). This has caused more than one summer scheduling issue with camps etc who all assume that everybody's "last week of summer" is actually the first week of Sept. Would cause issues for us too if we had kids since we're going to a wedding out of town on Aug 28 and spending a week out there.

Harvie, you will probably have a much better experience next time. This was her 2nd go round. The first time didn't work out well, either. I'm not sure she'll want to try again.

As has been pointed out, that was our SECOND foreign exchange student. We've had one female, and one male. One from Europe, one from Asia. Two different foreign exchange student companies. My wonderful DH just said "never again!" So that's that. We've decided that it's just easier to foster Golden Retrievers! (grin) Solo ... local and State governments all over the U.S. seem to be running out of money.... primarily because sales and property tax revenues are down -- and unlikely to improve in the forseeable future. At some point, the "powers that be" will have to start making choices about what services they have funding for, and which ones they don't. We ran some errands this afternoon -- I used a list and everything -- and came home only to realize I'd forgotten butter and eggs. Hmmmmf .... still not sure how THAT happened. Oh well, I will head out again later this week. Tonight's dinner was chicken, fresh spinach, and a yummilicious tomato-and-radish salad. We visited three different stores, and by then I was out of steam to do much else. I'll probably have to sneak out Monday or Tuesday to go and pick up some prescriptions. I was thinking a lot today about how Jesus calmed the storm for his Disciples, and I was (once again) so very grateful that He continues to calm the storms in my life.
