I found out yesterday that at work, we are no longer allowed to put up any seasonal displays; atleast not in the area I work in. My first reaction was a kneejerk one, I'm going to deck out my house all I can! and then I stopped and thought, what would that prove? Nothing really. Good thing this all went on in my head and now no one else but you guys know what I was thinking.

In everything there is a balance. To celebrate a holiday without it becoming obnoxious would be nice but we humans always tip the see-saw one way or the other.

This thread tips the see-saw one way or another. Do anti-Christmas people really believe their fellow Christians do ALL of these terrible heathen things EVERY SINGLE CHRISTMAS? Come on, that's silly.

I celebrate Christmas in remembrance of the birth of Christ. I buy gifts as a symbol of the gift of the child Jesus. If business makes money off of it that's fine. No sham as far as I am concerned.

I celebrate communion monthly and sometimes twice a month. Business makes a decent amount of money off of those wafers and wine as well. I dont mind. No sham where I am concerned.

The Santa question is a good one. I have always seen the santa story as a parable, a way of introducing morality to children (the whole naughty and nice thing). However I could go either way on that one. I am not committes to Santa talk.

FWIW, "Santa Claus" is actually a mushmouthed way of saying "Saint Nicholas." He was a real person, (look it up), and the "Santa Claus" mythos is largely an embellishent of Nicholas's good deeds to children. That said, while we never told our kids SC was real, we did all enjoy him symbolizingthe "giving alms" part of the season.

Mrs. K has instructed me that today is "bring down the Christmas decorations from the attic" day.

She wants plenty of time to sort and spruce them up so they she can decorate by the day after Thanksgiving.

The weather here is beautiful today 75 so my husband is debating about whether to put the lights on the house. We wouldn't turn them on until the day after Thanksgiving though.

It's taken me a couple three seasons, but I finally
have a santa free/X-mass free house. The only thing
left is a big ceramic nativity which is still biblical to put
out at Sukkot.

We can give a little break to all the X-mass/Ishtar observers
as they are un-biblical, but Halloween is definitely PAGAN.

The theme of X-mass is Jesus' birth
Ishtar is Jesus' resurrection. Although both are on the wrong days.
Having pagan roots makes them unbiblical. But not only does Halloween
have pagan roots, there's nothing biblical to compare it too.

Anybody here, anybody at all, worshipping Ishtar? If not, have you ever met anyone who does, anyone at all?

Thanks

The proper day to celebrate that would be its release date of May 15 (1987). Of course, that's only for devotees in the USA. Each country should celebrate on it's own release date or the known release date of the country closest to you. This is according to IMDB, of course. Now, some sects do celebrate on the VHS release date, but that's a liberal interpretation that is obviously un-IMDBiblical.

I honestly would be very afraid to try to make a connection of the celebration of the Glorious Resurrection of God the Son by billions of believers to that of a ancient, degrading sex goddess like Ishtar.

Very.

Yeah, I actually went to see it. It was truly terrible.

I agree. I think it's insulting besides.

But then I feel the same way about those people who put out PC Bibles.
(I mean I am afraid for them)
