I was just talking to a guy who was feeling really down about his sin. He believes that the Lord has forgiven him, but he is still having a mind full of guilt. I told him that I believe he was having trouble forgiving himself. I believe that was one of my problems as well especially when I was cheating on my wife all those years. Asking for forgiveness does help in healing your relationship with those you love, but you must learn to forgive yourself. I have used this scripture before but I believe it is appropriate here once more.

Psalm 51

A PRAYER FOR FORGIVENESS

Be merciful to me, O God,
because of your constant love.
Because of your great mercy
wipe away my sins!
Wash away all my evil
and make me clean from my sin!

I recognize my faults;
I am always conscious of my sins.
I have sinned against you-only against you-
and done what you consider evil.
So you are right in judging me;
you are justified in condemning me.
I have been evil from the day I was born'
from the time I was conceived, I have been sinful.

Sincerity and truth are what you require;
fill my mind with your wisdom.
Remove my sin, and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear the sounds of joy and gladness;
and though you have crushed me and
broken me,
I will be happy once again.
Close your eyes to my sins
and wipe out all my evil.

Create a pure heart in me, O God, and put a new and loyal spirit in me.
Do not banish me from your presence;
do not take your holy spirit away from me.
Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you.
Then I will teach sinners your commands,
and they will turn back to you.

Spare my life, O God, and save me,
and I will gladly proclaim your righteousness.
Help me to speak, Lord,
and I will praise you.

You do not want sacrifices,
or I would offer them;
you are not pleased with burnt offerings.
My sacrifice is a humble spirit, O God;
you will not reject a humble and repentant heart.

O God, be kind to Zion and help her;
rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
Then you will be pleased with proper sacrifices
and with our burnt offerings;
and bulls will be sacrificed on your altar.

I hope this has been of help to you once again. I know the Lord has forgiven me and you and He wait for us to forgive our-self so we can move on to greater things in our Christian walk.

Love you guys,

Bill

I learned long ago that I didn't really experience freedom from my sin until I allowed the Lord to work in my heart. Freedom comes only when you ask and are truly forgiven for your sin. Psalm 103:1-14 says it well.

Praise the Lord, my soul!
All my being, praise his
holy name!
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and do not forget how kind he is.
He forgives all my sins
and heals all my diseases.
He keeps me from the grave
and blesses me with love and mercy.
He fills my life with good things,
so that I stay young and strong
like an eagle.

The Lord judges in favor of the suppressed
and gives them their rights.
He revealed his plans to Moses
and let the people of Israel see
his mighty deeds.
The Lord is merciful and loving,
slow to become angry and full
of constant love.
He does not keep on rebuking;
he is not angry forever.
He does not punish us as we deserve
or repay us according to our
sins and wrongs.
As high as the sky is above the earth,
so great is his love for those
who honor him.
As far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our sins from us.
As a father is kind to his children,
so the Lord is kind to those
who honor him.
He knows what we are made of;
he remembers that we are dust.

He removes our sins as far as the East is from the West. How much farther can He go? He loves us so much that He doesn't want to keep us where we are, we must move on!

The Lord forgives and has forgiven our sins before the world began. He fornew that we would become His children. His forgiveness goes on forever.

Ephesians 1:3-8

Let us give thanks to the God and
father of our Lord Jesus Christ! For in
our union with Christ he has blessed us
by giving us every spiritual blessing in the
heavenly world. Even before the world was made,
God had already chosen us to
be his through our union with Christ, so
that we would be holy and without fault
before him.

Because of his love God had already
decided that through Jesus Christ he
would make us his sons-this was his
pleasure and purpose. Let us praise God
for his glorious grace, for the free gift he
gave us in his dear Son! For by the
sacrificial death of Christ we are set free,
that is, our sins are forgiven. How great is
the grace of God, which he gave to us in
such large measure!

Nothing can compare to the Grace and forgiveness of the Lord. Man can forgive but not forget, God can. Let him have your troubles and forgive you!

How do we walk in the light of Christ? And what does it mean? Here in 1 John I believe he explains it.

2:9-14,

"Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is
still in the darkness.

Whoever loves his brother lives in the light,
and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.

But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness;
he does not know where he is going, because the darkness
has blinded him.

I write to you, dear children,
because your sins have been forgiven on
account of his name.

I write to you, fathers,
because you have known him who is from the beginning.

I write to you, young men,
because you have overcome the evil one.

I write to you, dear children,
because you have known the Father.

I write to you, fathers,
because you have known him who is from the beginning.

I write to you, young men,
because you are strong,
and the word of God lives in you,
and you have overcome the evil one."

I think the author is trying to convince some folks that when you are forgiven, you are forgiven. Sometimes it is hard to believe it, but it is true. Believe it.

A great scripture for forgiveness is this, 1 John 1:5-10,

"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives."

God is referred to as Light, and sin is always referred to as the darkness. Can we live in both the dark and the Light? Not possible. When we are not forgive of our sins, we are in the darkness. God cannot look upon the darkness of our souls, so we must therefore repent and be filled with the Light of God. James 1:22" Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourself. Do what it says." Repent and experience forgiveness and the loving touch of the Masters hand.

In my past, I was faced with my sins by the Holy Spirit. It isn't very pleasant to know that you have quenched the Spirit and made the Lord turn his back to you. You must repent of your sins in order to be forgiven. That doesn't come easy some times. For some reason we like to wallow in our sins and enjoy them for a while. Enjoy isn't the correct word to put there because living without the Holy Spirit is empty. One Psalm of David really helps me when I find myself in these situations.

Psalm 51

Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you are proved right when you speak
and justified when you judge.
Surely I was sinful at birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
Surely your desire truth in the inner parts;
you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins
and blot out all my iniquity.

Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within one.
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will turn back to you.
Save me from bloodguilt, O God,
the God who saves me
and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart,
O God, you will not despise.

In your good pleasure make Zion prosper;
build up the walls of Jerusalem.
Then there will be righteous sacrifices,
whole burnt offerings to delight you;
then bulls will be offered on your altar.

Forgiveness comes from brokenness. We must want to be forgiven and confess our sins to the Lord then He will forgive and restore us. Think on these things.

We find forgiveness in the Psalm's. Here is one I like.

Psalm 31.

I will exalt you, O Lord,
for you lifted me out of the depths
and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
O Lord my God, I called to you for help
and you healed me.
O Lord, you brought me up from the grave;
you spared me from going down into the pit.

Sing to the Lord, you saints of his;
praise his holy name.
For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may remain for a night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning.

When I felt secure, I said,
"I will never be shaken."
O Lord, when you favored me,
You made my mountain stand firm;
but when you hid your face,
I was dismayed.

To you, O Lord, I called;
to the Lord I cried for mercy:
What gain is there in my destruction,
in my going down into the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me;
O Lord, be my help."

You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
that my heart may sing to you and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever.

I believe David is praising the Lord for bringing him out of the pit. Helping him enjoy forgiveness for his sins. Remember how much the Lord loves you and wants you to enjoy life.
When you think about it, a Christian is worthless to the Lord when you are caught up in self pity.
Let him help you get yourself out of the pit.

I find so much in the Old Testament about forgiveness that I don't know where to start. Here in Psalm 32 the Lord is using David once again to express the forgiveness of God.

Blessed is he
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the man
whose sin the Lord does not count against him
and in whose spirit is no deceit.

When I kept silent,
my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
For day and night
your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was sapped
as in the heat of summer.
Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, "I will confess
my transgressions to the Lord--"
and you forgave
the guilt of my sin.

Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you
while you may be found;
surely when the mighty waters rise,
they will not reach him.
You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you
should go;
I will counsel you and watch over you.
Do not be like the horse or the mule,
which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and bridle
or they will not come to you.
Many are the words of the wicked,
but the Lords' unfailing love
surrounds the man who trusts in him.

Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;
sing, all you who are upright in heart!

It is so comforting to know that the Lord is ready to forgive and forget our transgressions. He is ready for us to acknowledge our sins and allow Him to guide and direct us into freedom. He is so forgiving it sets my soul on fire. It lightens my heart to know He loves me so much and is ready to forgive and refresh our relationship. What a God we serve! Never give up on Him.

In 2 Corinthians Paul gives us some encouraging words about forgiveness and comfort from the Lord.

The God of All Comfort, Chapter 1 Verses 3-7

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you were in our sufferings, also you share in our comfort."

I heard comfort in the Lord described this way, "it is as if the Lord had covered me all over with a big warm blanket." I know the feeling well. When I sin against the Lord and sense that His Holy Spirit has left me all alone, I feel lost and afraid. But only when I repent do I experience that comfort and forgiveness that only comes from the Lord. I constantly ask myself "Why" do I constantly divorce myself from the Heavenly Father? No feeling can compare to that loneliness. I want to experience the Holiness of the Lord in my life. I know that we will never be perfect, but the Bible says that we should be striving for it. The only way to do that is to stay in a perfect relationship with the Lord, by repenting of our sins and accepting His forgiveness.

May the Lord bless you this day and days to come.

When I sin, I feel lost because the Holy Spirit has left me. Many times as I would sin against the Lord by sexual sin, I would feel so alone because I had sinned against my wife and myself and the Lord. Hear what Psalm 103 had to say.

Praise the Lord, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits.
Who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfied your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
The Lord works righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.

Forgiveness is only a step away. Repent and accept it from the Lord. He is so eager to get your relationship back with Him. He loves you and wants to keep an open relationship with you. We allow Satan to accuse us, and all we must do is agree with him and then tell him that God has forgiven me. My relationship is back with the Lord. When we confess, Satan has nothing on us. Repent and love the Lord as he loves us. Unconditionally.

God bless.

When sin has us under its power, we don't seem to have any hope. But the scripture has more to say to us. In 1st John 1:9-10 he tells us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives."

Repenting of sin, puts our relationship back with God. I don't like being away from Him at all. It makes me feel so alone and afraid. The scripture above says that if we don't feel any conviction of sin, then we aren't a part of the family of God. That in itself if scary. Review your life guys and see if your are in the family of God. It is a matter of life and death. Eternity is for real, and where you spend it is up to you. Make the correct choice.

Later,
Bill
