Well, my Mountaineers and Thundering Herd both won, but they wern't pretty victories. I'll take a win just about any way I can get one, though, especially after seeing some of the other games over the weekend. I was never so disgusted over a result as I was over the OU - BYU game the other night. I can't stand Brigham Young!!! And with Sam Bradford getting hurt, the Sooners title cahcnes may be out the proverbial window. I know that he's not going to need surgery, but Sam being gone for 4 weeks, it's not going to be very easy for "Boomer Sooner." And the Buckeyes did not look good against Navy; it should never have been that close. This does not bode well for Buckeye Nation against the Men of Troy. OUCH! Duane

ORIGINAL: morningmike My Vols looked great yesterday...of course Western Ky. is not nearly the level of competition they'll see from here on out. They face a more challenging game next week against UCLA, and then...straight into the conference fire with Florida. I was really impressed with the play of all the freshmen, and our quarterback was very accurate (albeit throwing a couple of interceptions). Looks like the Tide struggled a bit...however my hat's off to them for beating another top ten team. Mike There's no way to gauge the Vols. I hate those type match-ups but realize the need. After all, WKU has to play somebody and can use the money to build the program.

My Irish looked good last week but it was against Nevada. Looking forward to seeing USC-Ohio State next week. Should prove who the better team is. Both teams look good but Ohio almost lost though.

This is one dissapointed Irish Fan Right Now!!!!!!!!!. Don't get me wrong it was a great game in all but was a bit dissapointed in how it ended thats all. Golden Tate should of had those footballs he dropped in the 4th and the Irish would of won. Michigan was the better team that day. I was inmpressed with the play of their freshmen QB (Think He is a Freshmen. Name Mistakes Me this moment as well). The Gators looked good right now. But Troy wasn't relly much of Competition for them though they were leading early in the game. Usc proved that they are the number 2 Team in the land right now. Can't believe that a Oklahoma State Lost Today

I knew that Marshall wasn't going to beat Va. Tech on Saturday, but I'd like to have seen them make a better showing than what they did. Ouch! That was brutal! WVU got some payback for last year's beatdown at ECU, but the score was closer than it should've been: 2 fumbled punts, plus one other short field situation, gave the Pirates most of their points. And that kind of stuff ain't gonna cut it later on in the season. Coach Stewart had better get on those return guys when practice resumes, 'cause if they fumble like that at Auburn on Saturday night . . . it'll get re-e-e-a-a-a-l ugly. Ok. State loses to Houston, The Buckeyes lose to USC, and That Evil School Up North That Shall Forever Remain Nameless beats Notre Dame? Talk about a Top 25 shake-up!! Duane

I dont care for the coach. he thinks he can come in and just accuse people all around that only HE is the decent coach in the conference. the fans may be ok that root for tennessee but they cant account for bad taste. lol. Alabama is 2-0. and from what reading actually getting more 1st place votes than usc. I think with bradford down, McCoy will win the heisman if he stays healthy. Archie Griffin will most likely continue to be the only 2 time winner. Florida will destroy Tennessee and will give Kiffin that much more to cry about.

Go Gators. Yes I know that Troy is not a real powerhouse team, but they put up a fair fight. I hope the Heisman voters will realize that Tim Tebow only played until halfway through the third quarter. Taking nothing away from Colt McCoy, I think Tebow should win the trophy hands down with a continued performance up to his abilities. He has the numbers on the playing field, but his leadership on and off the field is beyond compare. If the Heisman is for the most well rounded. outstanding player, Tebow is the man.

Care for a friendly wager, War Eagle Kid? If you win, I have to post the words to the Auburn Fight Song here with singing smileys on either end - you know, like I'm singing it? But if WV wins, the reverse goes for you; you post the words to Hail, West Virginia here like you're singing them. Whatta ya say? Y'up fer it? Duane

ORIGINAL: SamsonUSA Major College football kicks off Sept 3rd. Should be a great season all around. Will Florida repeat? Who will meet for the Big 12 Championship? Will the SEC once again prove to be the most overrated conference? Can ANYONE beat my Trojans?? Fight On SC! quote:
Can ANYONE beat my Trojans?? Well My Ohio State team had you beat for 3 quraters and 10 min of the game but in the end you guys did it again. in my eyes it will still be a great season when we beat U of M. As for Florida repeating anyone but them I dislike them more than Michigan. Football they humiliated us and in basketball in the final they killed us but I still love the crimson and grey.

time-for-kiffin-vols-to-face-the-consequences September 16, 2009 3:24 PM Posted by ESPN.com's Chris Low KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Call it the calm before the storm, one that’s been brewing ever since Lane Kiffin rode into the SEC nine months ago and took direct aim at the guy who’s won two of the last three BCS national championships. That guy would be Florida’s Urban Meyer. And if you haven’t noticed, he doesn’t always play nice. Meyer’s been known in the past to run up the score, maybe kick a late field, even call a few timeouts in the final seconds just to rub it in. Don McPeak-US PRESSWIRE Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin has made this weekend's match up with Florida personal. But it’s debatable if it’s ever been as personal for him as it will be this Saturday when Kiffin leads his Tennessee team into the Swamp. We’ve seen the clip ad nauseam this week of Kiffin chortling that he was looking forward to singing "Rocky Top" all night long after beating the Gators in the Swamp. We’ve also seen the one where Kiffin makes his infamous cheating remark about Meyer. It’s that last one that got him, the one the Florida players said makes this game personal. Of course, they said that back in March before they were muzzled. “We’ve got a family bond here, and when somebody attacks somebody in your family like that, it’s on,” Florida cornerback Joe Haden said. Added Florida center Maurkice Pouncey, “That’s OK, because they’ve got something coming.” Again, that was back in the spring. The buildup to the game this week has almost been dull unless you count Kiffin trying to paint the Gators as the second coming of the 1985 Chicago Bears. Oh yeah, that and Tennessee president Jan Simek throwing Kiffin and the whole university under the bus. It’s almost as if Kiffin is trying to squeeze that toothpaste back in the tube. Doesn’t work that way, though. He said what he said, and now it’s his players who must face the consequences. Kiffin doesn’t agree that he put his players in a tough spot this Saturday with some of the things he’s said. Granted, it’s not like the Gators have taken it easy on the Vols the last few years. They won by 24 last season in Knoxville and by 39 two years ago in the Swamp. In that game two years ago, Tim Tebow was still in the game late and still throwing the ball. The Vols melted in the Swamp that day in one of the more embarrassing performances by a Tennessee team in recent memory. Could it really be a lot worse than that beatdown two years ago? We’re going to find out. One thing’s for sure: If the Gators can score 60, they will. Nonetheless, Kiffin dismisses any role locker-room motivation might play in this game. The thing he’s most concerned about is the team the Gators will put on the field. “I don’t know that that really works,” Kiffin said. “What works is when you recruit really good players and you coach really well, which they have, and when you have Tim Tebow and throw the ball to Percy Harvin and you hand it to Demps and Rainey. “That makes motivation work really well, when you recruit great players on defense and coach them as well as Charlie Strong does. That’s how you haven’t given up a touchdown all year.” Kiffin’s greatest challenge might not be so much what happens Saturday, but rather what happens after Saturday. How do the Vols recover physically and mentally if it's indeed as ugly as everybody thinks it's going to be? Moreover, how long will it take for Tennessee to close the obvious talent gap between the two teams? “We know we’re going to get there. It takes some time,” Kiffin said. “Just like they hadn’t won two national championships in three years four years ago. They didn’t have the depth that they have. It takes a while to build that. “We were here one month before signing day. We’ve had one signing class. We have to sign a class like we did last year and even better. If you do that for four years in a row, then you have a roster like they do.” Kiffin has been hesitant to this point to mention a timetable for getting Tennessee’s program back among the elite in the SEC. But he threw out the three-year window Tuesday. “We need to be rolling by Year 3,” he said. Merely standing may be the safest goal for this Saturday. I think it is safe to say Florida will still be number 1 and Kiffin will be trying to blame Florida for his teams death err demise and the hands of a better team. and i can't stand florida.

Judging from the local stations, it sounds like Virginia's Al Groh is the latest coach to find himself on the hot seat.

UT's best hope is that the gators are so overconfident they get a bunch of turnovers. Remember, Tenn has a very good defense. If Monte Kiffin can stymie Tebow, it might be closer than the odds. Look for the Vols to ground pound and rely on defense.

tennessee turns it over on their own 30. team scores in 2 plays. wow tennessee defense holds florida to 30 yards a drive and 2 plays or 3 a drive. but 7 points a drive will kill them. their defense is sub-par to Florida's offense. Florida wins this game by 4 TD's min. kiffin will find his mouth running the strongest conference in the ncaa is out for his blood.

Florida has the number one offense in the country. But Tennessee has the number three defense in the country. I think it'll be closer than you might think. Mike
