USA Today has an interesting story about the SEC West.

Nearly a third of the way into the college football season, this much is clear: The axis of power has shifted southeast. Last year, the Big 12 Conference's South Division was the nation's strongest with three teams ranked in the top five for two weeks in November. This week, the Southeastern Conference's West Division has three teams in the top seven: No. 3 Alabama, No. 5 Mississippi and No. 7 LSU.
At this point, could the SEC West be the best conference in college football?
"I think there's certainly an argument" for that, LSU coach Les Miles said. "Nationally, I don't know if there's a division or conference as competitive as this one."

How bout them Hokies!! Never been a fan, but they are playing a LOT better than some of the "pro's" right now. WTG Va Tech!
As for the puking gator's...I guess the pics said it all....I know there is 'swine flu" but what about 'gator flu?"

USC RB will most likely not play again for USC but will recover most likely. I may dislike the Trojans but say prayers daily for this young man. He needs our full prayers fans of the game.
Texas junior wide receiver Brandon Collins and sophomore defensive back Christian Scott will miss the rest of the 2009 football season as a result of unresolved NCAA academic eligibility issues.
Both players are enrolled in classes and remain in good academic standing at Texas. They will be permitted to continue practicing with the team, but won't be eligible to play in a game. Both players have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford has been increasing his activity in practice, but a decision on whether he will start Saturday at Miami has yet to be made, coach Bob Stoops said Wednesday.

Thurmond hurt the knee on the opening kickoff of Saturday's 42-3 victory over California.
The school said Tuesday that an MRI revealed season-ending surgery was needed.
Thurmond had been included on the preseason watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back.
Thurmond had two touchdowns in Oregon's first three games, returning a punt for a touchdown against Utah and interception for a score against Purdue. His five career touchdowns are more than any other non-offensive player in school history
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State wide receiver Darius Reynolds broke his leg in practice Tuesday and will be examined Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury, the school said.
Reynolds, a junior-college transfer in his first season at Iowa State, has 13 receptions for 72 yards in four games.
Florida trainers have determined that the concussion Tim Tebow sustained Saturday night at Kentucky was the first of his career.
Tebow, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, took balance and memory tests on Tuesday that coach Urban Meyer said were key to determining a timeline for his return. Meyer went through the tests with his star quarterback.
Meyer said Tebow still has a headache and isn't allowed to watch television or read. So there's no studying a playbook or checking out tape of top-ranked Florida's next opponent, LSU on Oct. 10.

It seems that there has been a larger number of severe injuries this year. I really enjoy college football, but I don't like to see anybody get hurt. I realize it is a tough game and injuries can be expected, but I cringe when I see a player get hurt.
Incidentally, if anybody is wondering, the tackle on Tim Tebow was a clean hit and is not what caused his injury. Tim's head hit one of his own teammates as he was going to the ground. The Kentucky player has said he is sorry that Tim was injured, and his coach has shown great concern. It was just one of those freakish football injuries.

There isn't a team in the country playing better than Va Tech right now and I am not normally a fan of their's. I don't understand why they don't get the respect they deserve and have earned every week.

I usually only pull for OU when they play a Pac10 team, but I hope they BEAT Miami.
Personally I wouldn't play Bradford. Give him another week, save him for my Horns.
And Mcelroy is finally winning me over as Bama's QB, But I'm not completely sold. But he's Better than John Parker.

i have watched the hit played from many different angles. it will go down as one of the hardest hits of the season but is no way the guy was in the fault. i hate the fact tebow was hurt but it wasnt the hit that did it. as you said it was way he went down. i am glad he isnt seriously injured. concussions are something he will have rest of his career though. that is the sad part. because he will have an amazing NFL future

It's Colorado vs. West Virginia in about half an hour! The Mounties defense should play much better than they did against Auburn, but looking back at it, the "D" really wasn't all that bad. The big problem was that the offense gave the ball away , which led to 21 points for the Tigers. And that, my firends, is how you lose a ballgame.

Both of my teams, WVU and Marshall, won yesterday. That makes me very happy. But Florida won, which doesn't. Sorry gang, but I''m just not a fan of the Gators.
I have to agree with buckifn - Bobby Bowden needs to retire. With all of the talent that keeps coming to Tallahasse, and they can't do any better than that?

The big story in Idaho today is not BSU in the top ten, but that the University of Idaho actually got a vote in one of the polls (not sure which). Maybe it'll finally be an interesting rivalry game for us this year. Nah...

LOS ANGELES -- Injured tailback Stafon Johnson has made a surprise appearance at Southern California's team meeting before the sixth-ranked Trojans' trip to Notre Dame.
Johnson was released from the hospital on Wednesday, just 16 days after his neck and throat were crushed in a weightlifting accident. The senior won't play again this season, but is continuing his rehabilitation at home.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- New Mexico coach Mike Locksley won't be on the sidelines when his team plays UNLV later this month, part of a 10-day suspension issued Tuesday as punishment for his role in a fight with an assistant coach.
"I'm the leader of the team and my staff," Locksley said. "I should have used better judgment. I showed poor leadership and I won't let it happen again. I've learned some harsh lessons, lessons that I feel will make me a better leader."
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Defensive end Eric Moncur and safety Randy Phillips are expected to miss No. 9 Miami's game at Central Florida on Saturday night.
Both are starters when healthy. Moncur, who was hopeful of playing this weekend, has an injured lower right leg. Phillips has missed Miami's previous two games with an arm injury. He also has not felt well in recent days.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Arkansas running back Michael Smith's playing status remains in doubt for Saturday's game against No. 1 Florida.
Coach Bobby Petrino said Thursday the running back would be a "game-time decision" Saturday. Smith tweaked his right hamstring in a win over Auburn last weekend. Smith rushed for 145 yards against the Tigers.
Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier is listed as probable for Saturday's game against Delaware State after sustaining a mild concussion last week at Iowa.
Forcier, who has started Michigan's first six games, returned to practice Wednesday and has a 75 percent chance of playing Saturday, according to Michigan's official injury report. The freshman from San Diego sustained the concussion early in the fourth quarter of last Saturday's loss to Iowa.
He was still experiencing headaches Monday, and head coach Rich Rodriguez said before Wednesday's practice that doctors were conducting final tests. Rodriguez said that if Forcier is healthy, he will get the start against Delaware State.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- A former Penn State tailback who hoped to play in the NFL claims in a lawsuit that authorities ruined his professional aspirations after filing a rape charge against him that was later dropped.
An attorney for Austin Scott filed the civil suit this week against Centre County prosecutors, Penn State police and the university in federal court in Williamsport. The suit said Scott suffered "mental pain and suffering" and diminished "earning capacity" because of the case.
He never played for the Nittany Lions after coach Joe Paterno suspended him in October 2007 for violating team rules. Police charged Scott a week later
