Here. I don't know; he has done great things on screen, we will see if he can continue to do so without losing track of the story or character development.

I thought this was an M. Night Shyamalan film? Or is Cameron involved in it, too? Sorry, I got it mixed up with "The Last Airbender", probably because the cartoon is called "Avatar". Mah bad.

LOL I couldn't get the quicktime link to work, but the artwork looked pretty cool, so I may go find an alternate link to watch.

couldn't find a preview link, but I did find this: Avatar Plot Script Story Spoilers: In the distant future many years from now, Human star ships have found an amazing new planet called Alpha Centauri B-4 (also known as Pandora). The exotic & strange plants and animals on Pandora breathe ammonia instead of oxygen. The hero of this alien adventure is a former marine soldier named Jake Sully, who was injured during his battle service. The Humans want to take the extremely abundant resources of Pandora for their own greedy reasons. Sully joins with the native sentient beings on Pandora and together they fight for freedom against the warring extraterrestrial invaders from Earth. I think it sounds really good. Kind of a reverse look at who the aggressors are...maybe like District 9...not sure.

Maybe it's just that it's been hyped so much, but I was underwhelmed. Which isn't to say it looks awful, but with its budget reportedly approaching 400 million I expected a bit more. The CGI was suppossed to be so revolutionary, but it just seems like normal CGI to me. In the scenes where there are no humans on screen it looks like a cartoon. A very pretty and no doubt expensive cartoon, but a cartoon nonetheless. I still don't think CGI has developed to the point where we can create entire environments and characters and make them look real. The most realistic use of CGI always combines it with other more traditional elements.

Jhud: Actually I thought the same thing about the CGI. As did I. The background animation of the military craft looks good, but that for those big blue creatures didn't look all that amazing to me. By comparison, the character CG in "District 9" was far better, and more realistic-looking than what I saw for "Avatar."

The teaser told me absolutely nothing about the movie.

When it comes to CG characters, I think the eyes are the single most important feature. With Golem from LOTR and now with the aliens from avatar, I think both would have looked way more realistic if they had smaller more human sized eyes. But for some reason CG animators like making giant Anime style eyes, so everyone looks like characters from Dragon Ball Z. Larger eyes certainly look pretty and they probably make it easier to animate emotion in the characters, but it also makes things look too cartoonish. I think Golem as a CG character was great in terms of the texture and movement of his body (there are times in the films where, when he is shot from the back, for a few seconds he passes as real), but his eyes were way too large and too bright in an unworldly way, so all the shots where you can see his face just look fake. The alien eyes in Avatar don't seem to be all that egregious in terms of size as Golem, but they still have a bizarre unrealistically luminescent anime quality about them.

I agree. The eyes for these characters look like something out of a video game - not terribly expressive.
