I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who spot vacuums? It seems the area underneath our dinner table should be the cleanest place in our house, it's not. I vacuum there every night! Anyone else seemingly vacuum all the time in one area?

I vacuum the entire apartment pretty much every day, but yes, I will vacuum a particularly messy area more then once a day.

I spot vacuum quite a bit. Especially in front of the doors and where ever the stupid cat has been. He's got long fur and is constantly shedding --------- mainly on my couch.

Yup, I vacuum at least once a day in the dinning room and living room which are connected. The carpet is a very light, yellow color and my dog is black and shedding. If I don't do it every day, the color of the carpet will change.

We have two vacuums, and I use them both so much that they really don't have a "home". They just sit in the hallway (in front of the A/C door). Between the two vacuums, they are probably on about ten times a day...or more some days. With five kids, we vacuum under the table after every meal.

Well that makes me feel better. I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one with dried noodles, smashed crackers and blueberry streaks under the table.

How often do you all vacuum the bedrooms? Sometimes I'm lucky if it gets done once a month.

For me, vacuuming is my way of checking the room to make sure it is done...esp if the kids do the room by themselves. I don't clean their rooms very often (about once a month just to overhaul clean it, divide toys back up that got put away wrong, etc), so they are in charge of them. I don't try to fight it every day, but I at least try to have them do it once a week good enough for me to vacuum. Sometimes I get lucky and get a few days a week in...but not much lately.

My dd is 16 and has the whole upstairs to herself. It's up to her to vacuum it. She did it once. She hates lugging the vacuum up there. I've thought about getting a second vacuum just because our stairs can be hard to get the vacuum up and down them.

I do spot vacuum. I have brown speckled carpet so it hides most things but I don't quite like the feeling of crumbs on my feets!

I normally spot vacuum where the kitchen tile meets the carpet nearest the cat's food bowl. She likes to play with her food so there are often crumbs there.

I have a question - do you guys have bagless vacuums? I do and I like it but I often have to scrap stuff that hangs from the top...anyone else have a similar problem?

I have a Kirby (bag vac), and a cheap bagless for bigger stuff (under the table). I don't really have a problem with cleaning it. I just wash it out every few days. The filter gets washed out too...I need to get replacement filters, but for now, just washing it out helps. I have also put it in the dishwasher and it worked out fine too. (It somehow landed in chicken juice, and there was NO WAY I was going to just wash that off. So I stuck it in the dishwasher and just said if it didn't make it, I would toss it and buy another...lol)

I have a bagless and there are days I wish it was a bag. But it's nice to not have to be buying bags for it all the time. I usually tap the filter on the side of the trashcan outside and end up with dust all over myself. Arg. I read an article that said to take a shop vac and vacuum the filter out. But that seems stupid to be vacuuming a vacuum. But it works!

I bought one with washable filters, so I usually wash them out and then put them to dry in the sun. I empty it once a week or so...

Even with as much as I vacuum, we don't have to buy bags all the time. They hold a LOT...we go maybe twice a year to the store to get them (unless I have enough to buy one years worth, which is six bags or so)

The dentist I worked for back when my hubby and I first got married (about 17 years ago)had a Kirby that was ancient. It used bags and I remember that I was in love with that vacuum because the bags held an enormous amount of stuff compared to my cheap ol' Wally World vacuum at home. I wanted one so bad. You could literally see that thing picking the carpet up as it vacuumed, that's how much suction it had. The dentist used to credit the fact that he still had the same carpet after 15 years to that old vacuum cleaner, and I believe it! I would buy one today if I could afford it.

I spot vacuum all the time. I have a huge 8' x 10' rug in my living room over "hardwood" laminate and it is a beautiful brown shag (I wanted something that wouldn't show every footprint or crumb since I have four boys!) so I don't vacuum it every day, although I probably should. I vacuum upstairs where the boys' rooms are about once or twice a week. They aren't really up there all that much, and I come in after everyone has gone to school and clean up anything left behind every morning so I can see any potential hazards and lug the vacuum up there as necessary. My boys have to make sure everything in their rooms are put away and off the floor and that their beds are made every morning. I'm a neat freak and they are. . . well boys, so between them doing their best and me doing the rest everyone is happy.

My bedroom carpet gets vacuumed at least 3 or 4 times a week since it is on the main floor and the babies and I are in and out of here all day. The carpet is white berber and seriously needs to be replaced with something much darker.

I don't know why I never even thought of that, duhhhh. That's how I got an awesome sewing machine for next to nothing, and how my hubby used to get awesome deals on TV's.

I will look around - we have several vac repair shops here. I really want a Kirby canister vac, so I can vacuum the stairs a little easier. Mine only has a reach of about 3 stairs, and doesn't do a decent job AT ALL.

THANKS!

Can't do it...I'm VERY particular with it. I vacuum often and when I do, I must go corner to corner...moving lighter furniture and all. AND it MUST be in straight lines, else I will start over. I had beige carpet where it was more noticable, but I just moved to an apt with dark-ish gray carpet, so I'm not as anal about it...well not quite anyway...

I have absolutely no prob walking on it afterards, but before I go to sleep- it will be right.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever spot-vaccumed. If I'm gonna haul that thing out here and use it, I'm gonna use it on all the common areas. The bedrooms get vaccumed only about once every couple months.

Absolutely. I vacuum the spot where the 2 year old dumped her plate of (dry) cheerios, and the spot where the 2 year old dumped a small sack of aquarium gravel, and the spot where hubby took off his boots (which happened to be covered in dried mud and concrete), and wet-vac'd the spot where the 2 year old dumped her milk, and the spot where the 8 month old lost control of her applesauce, and... yeah.

I was going to say no, we have cats, but then I thought about the black rug in the diningroom which always shows up the silvery-grey cat fur quicker and have to admit to just skimming it rather than the whole house. I will also do the main part of the house - lounge, dining, office and hall - more often than the bedrooms which get done once or twice a fortnight.
