So often parenting is so hard, and we come on here often to complain or vent about our struggles. However, I thought we needed a place to brag on our kids too. Things they have accomplished that you just love...or ways they encouraged you in your life...or how they acted like "perfect angels" in a situation and it made it so much easier for you.

So share away!!!! What are you proud of today in your kids.

I thought of this thread a few hours ago, when I was sitting in the ER waiting for my 4th (Jack- 3yo) to get stitches. My kids amazed me today!!! They were just awesome!!! They stepped up to the plate and hit a home run for me today!!!

Life can be hard sometimes as an Army wife, especially when hubby is gone. Right now he is gone to Korea, so I am sorta of "single parenting" for a while. One bad thing about living away from family is that when things like this come up I can't just call someone up to watch the kids. So they had to trudge along with me today as we went to the ER. All five kids were totally awesome though!!! I want to brag on each though...
Jake was a great help. He watched the others when I had to go into other rooms. He took his sister to the bathroom for me. Just generally a great helper and such a grown up kid for being 10yo.
Hannah was great too. She was so nervous for Jack and didn't want him to have to get stitches, but she prayed for him when he was back with the dr getting them.
Emma is always pretty good, but today she was extra special good. She just sat and colored, and helped the others when they needed it. She didn't whine (she tends to sometimes in situations she doesn't handle well). Great, awesome day for her.
Justice was great too!!! Amazingly so!! Usually he can be a bit fussy in the afternoons. He is kind of switching from taking 3 naps to taking just 2, so afternoons sometimes he has a rough time. Today however he just sat with me or Jake and played quietly the whole three hours we were at the ER.
Jack I am especially proud of today. He let them poke and prod him and do the stitches and take the x-ray's without fussing. He just laid there and let them work on him, just holding my hand. The Dr was so amazed at his attitude!!! He was such a trooper!!!

Josh is beginning to regularly and spontaneously say please. And often says "no thanks" when declining something. We have worked for months on please and this week he just started popping out with it!

When my son was in high school, the first thing his teachers would say when I met them at parent/teacher conferences was: "Your son is the most polite student in my class!"

Thing 2 talked to my boyfriend for the first time today and after he said, "He seems nice, but is he nice to you? If he isn't he and I are going to have to have a talk."

Then later he said when he and Thing 1 see him they're going to take him for a "walk" for a "man to man" talk about his Mommy.

I've been amazed at my son's handling of his dad being gone (temporarily). Of the three, the oldest is feeling it the worst, but he's also handling it best. He's open about how he's feeling and doesn't let it bleed into his behavior. Today his SS teacher (brand new, first time at that church) told us that when they asked for prayer requests, he raised his hand to ask for prayer for my dh, and for the family to not be too sad. So sweet.

He totally amazed me when he got his first two-wheel bike and taught himself to ride without any help from me. He just did circles on our front porch until he was confident, and then he took off! I had been envisioning long hours of awkwardly running behind him holding him steady, but he didn't need me at all!

Brag on all of them: Although "They're so cute!" is a regular compliment I get, I also very often get compliments about how my children are the most polite and well-behaved kids at their ages that people have seen. By the grace of God, and not my parenting, it's true. I am blessed!

YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!

(Hey Manda, this is cool huh!!!)

Hannah got to pick the Netflix movie for the kids this time, so she got to check the mail until it came too. This job is new to her. She usually freaks out about animals (always has), but we have been working with her to not be so scared. So getting out of the fence is hard for her sometimes.
WELL- Today she went out there, then came back and asked what if a dog comes over to her. So I told her to go to the fence edge, look up and down the street to see if someone was walking their dog, then if it was all clear, go to the mail box and get the mail. So that's exactly what she did...she stoically and bravely went to the fence edge, looked to make sure it was all clear, then without hesitation went to check the mail!!! (then ran back excited that the movies came in...lol)

WOOOOOHOOOOOOO...progress!!!

I have 2 daughters, aged 11 and 17.

DD11 is a gifted swimmer, a very creative child, well behaved, marches to the beat of her own drum and isn't easily led! She doesn't care if the whole world thinks she's weird because she kisses and hugs her mom in public! She's open and honest and believes that we are all inherently good! She will not do chores voluntarily to save her life, but she will create the most amazing art pieces to brighten up my day!

DD17 is bright, hardworking, outgoing and very opinionated, but always willing to argue the cause of a disadvantaged person or group. She is a GREAT big sister! DD17 doesn't like chores too much either, but I was very impressed to see her do laundry (not just hers) without being asked!

I am the very proud mom of 2 very different, but equally wonderful girls.
Right now, we are going through a pretty rough time financially! The girls aren't whining about it, rather they are contributing in their own way to making life more bearable.

I'm at home sick with the flu and the Things went to my mum's for the duration. They came by today to bring me some food and small conversation.

Thing 2 stood about 6 feet away from me the whole time and every time I'd look at him he looked like he was going to cry. Finally I asked what was wrong. He burst into tears and said, "Mama said not to hug you!!! I want to give you a hug so bad!!!!!" Finally my mum said he could give me a hug and he flew into my arms and squeezed me as tight as he could.

He went home happy, but still misses his Mommy.

Every day around 10a, my son and I sit at the table and we go through our studies and at the end I try to teach him a bible verse. We have been working on Phillipians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.(KJV) However I have been using (NIV) which state: I can do all things through Him,who is my strength.

So I ask my son to repeat it and he repeats the first portion fine, however he says the last portion," Who is my strength" as a questions and surprised me with his answer: GOD

As I was on the phone today speaking with my sister totally indirect from this, he was listening to my conversation when I said: Well all things and he piped up," I know momma, Possible!"

I chuckled because he got that from one of the songs I listen to. All things are possible.

This certainly brightened my day

Because I did not think I was teaching all the things he should know for his age, so he certainly surprised me that he really does listen.

My son (8) can drive me crazy but he is a great kid. Last weekend he spent most of Sunday helping me clean house before a meeting. He did it with a good attitude and cheerful manner (and because I told him he couldn't play with the new erector set until the house was clean...).

This weekend I took my son and his horse to a horse show. It was a 4 hour drive, we arrived late the night before. Then up early in the morning. My son worked with his horse all day--showing in 4 halter classes (not an easy task, this horse is a performance horse, not a halter horse and doesn't like the standing around), then showed in 5 performance classes. Even when the horse was not at his best my son kept working with him. The hard work paid off, and my son and his horse took 1st place in their last two classes.

Today we had to get some maintenance done on our truck so I walked my sons over to the grocery store (only about 1/2 mile from the auto shop) and they behaved perfectly. Waited at roads; didn't complain about helping carry groceries; didn't whine for extra things in the store; politely answered the cashier's questions. They also sat nicely in the waiting area while I was getting the truck turned in and paying.
Not a HUGE thing but after two days in a row of them getting into some 'major' trouble I was quite happy with them.

Now that my oldest has gone to college, my 16 year old boy is my babysitter while I work part time at our church (I'm the custodian for the sanctuary building)....he does this everyday for up to 4 hours without complaint...and when I get home, even though I know he is MORE than ready to hand the other three back to me, he will ask me if I need a hot bath or a nap first. Before his sister left for college...they took turns doing the sitting...and yes...I do pay them...but at way less than minimum wage!

We went for a medium-sized hike today as a family. My 9 month old was happy on her daddy's back and my 2.5 year old walked under his own power for almost all of the hike. He went the whole way up by himself and most of the way down, but by the bottom he was really, really tired. The climb up the small mountain was steep enough at parts that he actually had to use his hands to get up and over some rocks. I helped him a little and held his hands a few times, but mostly he did it himself.

So, I was proud of my little man. He kept his balance quite well and we had a minimal of complaining, considering what we were asking of him. Dad and baby are crashed out asleep and Nathan is watching The Aristocats (a rare treat for him). A good day all around.

Well, my kid is no longer a kid - she's in college and doing really well. She is acing her logic class, and I'm probably never going to "win" in a discussion with her again. LOL Fine with me.

We're enormously proud of her, and thrilled how God has shaped her into the woman she has become.

That's great, Betterisoneday! The troubles are inevitable but only the kids with good parenting grow beyond it.

Yesterday while I was at the store, the bottom dropped out of the sky, and I ended up having to go to my car and load my groceries in the pouring rain. When I got home and opened the door, my kids were already waiting with shoes on to help me unload so I wouldn't get more wet. It was small, but very very thoughtful.

I am just blessed in general. My kids are good kids. They don't argue (11 and 13), they don't have rowdy or questionable friends. They do what they are asked without attitude. They still let us kiss them goodnight, even!

Thing 2 made his first batch of cookies all by himself! He brunt about half of them but the rest were REALLY good.

And not to be outdone by his younger brother, Thing 1 made muffins for breakfast the next day.

Now I don't have to worry about baking those two items as long as the boys are around.
