Considering this, could the other that is "not yet come" be America? The reason I ask this is because Rome (or Europe) already existed and was a world power at the time Revelation was written.

Excellent question, and I have the answer. This woman is Babylon. She is the woman that was SUPPOSED to be the church, but she is a fornicator. She is the woman from Matthew 13, parable of the woman that puts the leaven in three measure of meal. The three measures of meal stand for three things, and sin was hidden in one of the measures and spread to all parts of the three measures.
The perfect measure, the golden reed, is the doctrine of God, the Word. It is the Bread of Life, God was a seed of wheat that He said had to be sown and die to reproduce after its' kind. Wheat and tares, also in Matthew 13 show wheat to be Christians, personifications of the Word. Tares are personifications of a false doctrine that looks JUST like the wheat, but has seeds of black that cause sickness and drunkenness.
The three measures of meal are corn meal, or other golden but false grain, maybe they are the tares that she has turned into meal, the point is, it is meal and not flour, and there are three measures, full of sin.
The Woman, Babylon is composed of the fake-christian believers that have religion and believe the false doctrines of the three measures. They claim God's salvation but they fornicate against God. There are three false words that we are taught about, the red horse, the black horse and the pale horse.
The woman on the dragon is Babylon, and she is comprised of the Christians sects of paganism (as seen in the early church and the fight with the Gnostic's), Catholicism and the false doctrines of all of Protestantism.
Babylon is SUPPOSED to be the bride of Christ, but she is a fornicator, and a horrible abomination. In Revelation the woman Babylon is juxtaposed to the woman that IS the church. This woman, the CHURCH, is faithful, and does not fornicate. She is the white horse that is of the tribe of Judah. OT scriptures says God will take the flock of Judah and make it into a battle horse, and give it a battle bow to shoot the arrows of the word at Babylon and repay her double what she has caused us in grief. These arrows are said to be hidden our heart, which is the quiver. We are a nation of kings and priests, and the white horse rider wears the priests crown that says "property of Jesus" on the forhead. This is OUR mark, or it symbolises the Mark that is IN our forhead, which is the doctrine of the Word of God.
Babylon has a mark in HER forehead to, it is the mark of the false word that SHE believes and lives. And her evil works are the mark that she wears on her hand. This IS the mark of the BEAST that the WHORE Babylon rides upon, and who gives her her power.

It is the church of compromise; the growing emergent Christian movement which is corrosive in nature to the true Church and can only be called an experimental approach to Christianity. Where we throw away the teaching of Gods word, suddenly saying that this teaching is obsolete and we need to move on. That it is alright to live a homosexual life style because it is Gods desire that we embrace all kinds of people from all walks of life. Excellent answer bob. Read the post above to see what it really is. This thing you spoke of, I hate it to, and it is wrong. But it is only the latest fad in a whole long string of doctrinal compromise, that goes back 1750 years. You can even read the compromises being fought against in the Bible accounts, so, counting Gnosticism and the Greek philosophies, it goes back 1,970 years.

Sorry, I know you mean well, but you are fully wrong. I used to believe this too. But there is absolutely no way the scriptures support this. I have written at length about this for a new book, and have studied at length. I can show you with complete and total evidence that this description you gave is incorrect.
I do not mean to be argumentative, or rash or arrogant or anything you might think of me, but I do love the truth. Anyway, if you want to see something that is truth, read above two posts.
Lastly, that bad time of tribulation on earth has been going on for a while, and is now. Just read Foxes Book of Martyrs. This book is not promoted enough by those that want the truth hidden. You will see the great tribulation when you read through this book, or listen to it on MP3.

For all who do not know, the spiritual metaphor of Jerusalem is a massively important metaphor. This metaphor is seldom taught is little understood, but there is a large body, compiled from a little here, a little there over the last 1700 years, that shows this metaphor to be something that we all need to understand.

Back to the thread... Cornergas, it sounds like you are asking specific questions in a way that leads others in answering in a way that agrees with your preconceived idea. Is that the case? It sounds like you are trying to get others to say this sounds like the Catholic Church. That is just my observation from you questions. I could be wrong. But to answer your questions... from what i gather from the Scriptures, and from my study of history, I think it is pointing to the Catholic Church. But I also agree with Bob, that it also involves and includes all those who try to enter in through another gate other than Christ and following His teaching. So, in a way, I agree with everyone who has posted in this thread so far.
You are 100% correct. It is ALL who try to enter the marriage feast, but not through the gate. It is comprised of ALL who want to be at the marriage supper of the Lamb with Jesus, but try to enter another way. This is 100% correct, and could not have been stated better.
(Though it is Gnosticism (paganism), Catholicism/Orthodox, Protestantism (false doctrines since the Reformation))

The woman riding the beast will be a church and a country on seven hills Revelation 17. This seems to describe the Roman church, and the Vatican which is a country..hmm vicar filii dei...popes title appears to equal 666..the latin title is inscribed on crowns, and ornaments he uses. So could the pope be the anti christ? Well the anti christ and end time church will think to change times and laws, be a persecuting church, and claim to forgive sins ...book of Daniel. Does the pope change times and laws? yes ..changed God's holy day the seventh day Sabbath from the 7th day to the first day of the week..and they brag about it..Cardinal Gibbons write in the Catholic mirror Sept 23/1983..this was done with no Biblical authority but strictly papal decree. There are many more writings on this issue. The papal implementation of Dec 25 the originally babylonian sun god worship high day, into the birth of Jesus..again with no Biblical authority. The pagan fertility rites of spring, the papal decree turns into easter, to commemorize the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. (The Bible states the crucifixtion was the passover, another day and time separate from the papal decree).
Is the Roman church a persecuting church..one only has to look at the Crusades, the Inquistions and its conduct in ww2 Germany to see know the facts here. Some references are google: The Vatican and Islam, The vatican's holocaust, the last great inquisition, catholic church is not christian.
2 aspects of blasphemy are: Claiming to be God or equal to God, and claiming to be able to forgive sins.
The pope claims the title of Holy Father..that is a name reserved exclusively for God Almighty Himself. As Jesus said "call no man on earth Father, only the Father which is in Heaven". The second is claiming to be able to forgive sins..again only God can do this, no mortal, pope, priest or church representative can do this as there is no Biblical authority for this action.
The anti christ means it will go against Christ's teachings, and be opposite to them, so the description seems to fit in the foregoing, with the non Biblical teachings of purgatory, the elevation of Mary, the elevation of the pope, the ability to designate saints, the ability to change God's word.
The present pope as late as last year declared that the only true Christians belonged to his particular roman church! Will this papacy and organization again being to persecute the true Christians, and true Saints of God in the end times?? It happened before!
