1. Why does James tell us that we should "count it a joy" to be tempted?

My version says Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

Romans 5 expands on this thought beginning in verse three. And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character, and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (v3-5)

We know that God works all things together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28) so even and especially in the midst of difficult times, we can remain thankful and expectant because we KNOW that this is accomplishing good. We may not see it. We may not understand. We may be suffering. But we can know and trust and thank Him that all is well and will be used for good. We have great reason for praise. He is good and does good all the time.

It's not about my 'understanding' or making sense of it. It's about my believing, trusting, loving and praising Him always. I'm not saying this is easy for me or what I always do. But it is my desire. And it is His will for me. Blessings.

Maybe because Christ's power can be displayed. We can count it joy also because Christ his working in us and making us into His image. When we face temptations and overcome by Christ's power, we probably come out of the temptation a little more like Christ than before it came.

If I am tempted to sin, I must be founded in righteousness. If I am not tempted to sin, I must be founded in sin.

In Messiah, I am honored to be 'tempted' to sin, for I then know I am on the right path to God.

In Messiah. Arley

Just as Paul and Silas did after being stripped and beaten... and then being put in the stocks and in a jail cell... They were singing hymns and praising God after all of that! In the midst of their trials. (See Acts That's some kind of faith!!! Wonderful examples for us.

Indeed.
His will for all of us.

Thank you for the reminder of what those verses are about.

As far as temptation is concerned....

Perhaps we are to rejoice -- not that we are tempted (and we know that temptations will dangle in front of us!) -- that God gives us a way of escape when we are tempted... and He holds us up so that we make act faithfully under the pressure of temptation. (See 1 Corinthians 10:13.)

Amen to this as well. Yes, He has done all for us, including the way of escape when temptations come! Thank You, Jesus!
