Kind of a spin-off of the topic in Movies (with, no doubt, a lot of crossover). What and who are your favorite literary aliens and alien species.

One that I like a lot is in the Weber's Harrington books, the Treecats. I like how their not simply furry little critters, but actually rather complex.

I thought the Yuushan Vong (maybe misspelled) in the Star Wars books were pretty good bad guys.

The dragonriders & dragons of Pern
The Puppeteers from Larry Niven's "known space" novels
The Kzin from the same series
From Robert Asprin's "Myth" series: Prevects, Trolls, Imps, Djen's, Deveels, and Klahds
Robert Heinlein's Venusian dragons

I've read gobs of s-f but am drawing a blank for some reason.

I thought so too. That was a good series.

-Jora'h - The Ildiran Mage-Imperator from "The Saga of Seven Suns" books written by Kevin J. Anderson. Forced to the throne before his time, he sees the inevitable destruction of his people coming, and forces change from old traditions that were going to cause his race to be snuffed out. He was brave and risked a galactic civil war, but had the strength of character to pull his people together in the end, as well as help his human allies who faced much the same consequences.

The Vogons would be the best literary aliens based solely on their poetry, which is only the 3rd worst in the universe. Of course, Douglas Adams' antagonistic alien species (from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) are also endearing for their charming adheral to the bureaucratic sensibilities and their understandably intolerant stance on "hitchhikers".

I love the Vogons!

But then again, I like the straight forward nature of Klingons (NG, not TOS).

And here I was thinking that I didn't have any favorite literary aliens. But I did enjoy the Pern books. It's been a long time since I read them. Most of the SF&F I've read in recent years has been earth-bound. Or, alternative-earth-bound.
