What movie or movvies have you seen with the worst special effects? I think King Kong and The Mummy Returns have some pretty bad special effects. I'm sure I'll think of some more later.

Plan 9 From Outer Space. Absolutely awful movie, and a lot of fun. Anyone else remember the shower curtain in the airplane?

Howard the Duck.

That is still the all time worst movie I have ever seen in my life. And that list includes "Plan 9 from Outer Space".

I'll add:
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Attack of the 50 Foot Woman
Killer Clowns From Outer Space
the old Flash Gordon serials
The Blob (the James Dean one)

That was Steve McQueen, Unk. And his girlfriend was Aneta Corsaut (Helen Crump from The Andy Griffith Show)!

Hubcap flying saucers! Lugosi mud wrestling a rubber octopus! Yeah!
Personally, I love the old movies with bad mat-painted backgrounds, like the original King Kong.
And for truly bad effects, you just can't beat the old monster flicks or stuff like the Golden Voyage of Sinbad. (Incidentally, for truly great mat painting, check out the Douglas Fairbanks version of Robin Hood.) Oh, and for even worse effects, nothing beats Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet. Okay, maybe Flash Gordon: Rocketship might beat that one, but darned little else. Okay, Flash Gordon and then maybe Night of the Lepus...and The Abominable Dr. Phibes...

The Friday the 13th movies had really bad special effects. I still love them, though.

Sooo true! I saw this one once about these soldier/scientists that go to a planet or back in time can't remember. and they encounter....mutant bears! They were just regular bears and the computer graphics of the bears was just horrible and laughable. Don't even get me started on the acting

I saw a similar (the same?) one w/ Ben Kingsley as some big money guy where one of the results was mutant gorillas who sleep hanging from the ceiling like bats.

I don't recall the name for it's been so long ago, though I gotta mention this sci-fi movie my brother and I watched when we were kids. Don't think I'll ever forget the scene where they showed the spaceship traveling along and you could see the stick holding up the obvious toy ship each time it passed in front of the "stars."

Any of the old Godzilla movies especially when it shows him stomping through a city.

Are you sure it was a movie, or could it have been the TV show "Jason of Star Command"?

Sounds like Plan 9 From Outter Space. Was it black and white?

1984 "Dune" directed by David Lynch--cringingly awful special effects (the worms, blue eyes, miniatures)

2003 "The Hulk" directed by Ang Lee--Hulk had a weird distortion, lumpy like a bad fat suit

1993 "Lost in Space" directed by Stephen Hopkins--The creature adopted as a pet, spider graphics on a loop

2004 "The Polar Express" directed by Robert Zemeckis--The number 1 choice when demonstrating the "Uncanny Valley" concept for Performance Capture Animation: soul-less inanimate eyes everywhere

2004 "Troy" directed by Wolfgang Peterson--Over the top CGI: replicating legions of soldiers and battleships, miraculously appearing on the horizon

If you think the movie was bad, check out the tv show some time. Their force field was Saran Wrap strung between 2X4's.

It could have been the show, or even Plan 9 (yeah I think it was black & white), I don't remember all the details, mostly that scene with the goofy little spaceship and its supporting stick. Oh goodness, what a hoot.

I'm pretty sure the toy spaceship in Plan 9 was suspended from (sometimes) invisible wires.

I'll add a fairly recent one...Twilight.

1. The vampire skin tones. The worst was a scene in the hospital where Dr. Cullen comes in and his makeup is really obvious. How could the filmmakers not notice that it was really garish? No way could vampires "blend in" with that skin tone.

2. The "sparkle in the sunshine" effect. I'll be a little more kind on that one, because I'm sure it's difficult to figure out how to translate that to film.

I'd never seen the show so I borrowed a box set.

Unintentionally hilarious!

Now I know what "Danger!!Danger Will Robinson!!" means. *snerk*
