Marriages are all totally different. Some have really bad patches and some dont. Some will sour and some wont. I know marriages in both categories.

This is a good point. Did you know that if you keep milk extra cold, and never have it out of the refrigerator (like I mean grab out of fridge, pour, put back in fridge religiously) it will last for 2, 3, maybe even 4 weeks past the expiration? That certainly isn't the case for milk that you take out and leave on the table during meals, or leave it out for a couple hours because you forgot it etc. I guess Maybe if you are really careful with a marriage, it won't ever sour for some people. I have heard of couples who were extremely close to God. They never raised their voice to each other in 30 or more years, even when they disagreed. Never let the sun go down on anger. To me that sounds like milk paradise

My own parents have been very close to this picture, but perhaps not 100%. I am 33 years old and I think I can count the number of times one of them has raised their voice to the other in front of me on one hand. They have also admitted they have had some tough times. They have also stressed that those times, while tough emotionally, did not affect how much they love each other, because the purest and best kind of love has nothing to do with emotions, it is all about sacrificial actions. I CAN'T count on both hands and both feet even if I used them over and over the number of times I've heard, "Love is a choice." It is the kind of love that says, "I will not react to how you hurt me, I will not react to how you ignore me, I will not react to how you treat me badly, I will CHOOSE to love you and act for your benefit, regardless of how you act toward me"

It is the same love that said at creation, "Yes Father I will redeem your beloved with my blood when the time is right", and then almost 2000 years ago hung on a tree and cried out, "It Is Finished!" and then died for you and me, for we are the Father's beloved.

It makes me angry when I hear people on talk shows and such say something like, "Well, I love her/him, but I just can't/won't [insert selfless act here]" What they really mean is "Ya, they give me warm fuzzies and keep the loneliness away, but it just isn't worth it to me to do THAT for HIM/HER"

That is the difference. That selfless kind of love is what can keep some few marriages from ever souring, or for the majority of us will make delicious curds or cheese from milk that does sour. Or, if you feel "I love him/her, BUT..." then milk shopping is in your future.

I don't know, I've heard that for the majority of milk shoppers, they wish they had stuck it out, because of the pain and trouble involved in throwing out milk that you've had in your life for so long, and then finding, buying, and getting used to a whole new kind of milk.
