I'm new, and I hope it's okay for me to say hello. I have enjoyed reading this thread. I have an 8th grade daughter and a 6th grade son. I also teach music at one of our local elementary schools.

I manly just wanted to say hi, and to offer my ear any time you wonder what in the wold these crazy teachers are thinking I've spent 15 years around 'em, and there usually is a method to their madness!

Thank you for caring so much about your kids. We teachers see so many who don't, and it is heartbreaking.

Welcome!!

It's more than okay for you to join us! After all you have kids in schools right? That you're a teacher is a GREAT bonus!

I'm Garsy and have 4 kiddos in 3 schools. Ty is a sophomore and almost 16. Aryn is almost 12 and a 6th grader too. Ethan is 10 and in 5th grade. Zoe is my baby and in 3rd grade. She'll be 9 in December. My husband is in school as well. We are currently enduring a season of unemployment. It's not fun, but we've been through it a number of times in the last 5 years so it's really nothing new. Irritating, but not new.

I spend a LOT of time volunteering in the schools too. 8 to 10 hours a week this year at the elementary and 3 or 4 hours a month at the middle school. This is actually down from last year, but will likely change as the year progresses. So I too KNOW many teachers!

Blessings,

Garsy

Welcome Heremainsfaithful!

I heard back from N's teachers and he isn't really missing anything tomorrow when he has his appt, except some activities that could be fun. They were going to a park, but that was cancelled due to weather. BUT now he is sick. It is probably swine flu. I hope the rest of us don't get it. He is pretty wiped out. So I'll have to reschedule his appt again, yuck.

For music they were going to be able to bring a non-healthy snack for tomorrow. N will be sad about missing that. In reference to the snack day N said "I think she's my favorite teacher now!"

We won't know that for a couple of months from now. I'm hoping so.

I missed who ran into their bin. I must have skimmed that post.

I ran into our bin about a month ago and it had to be replaced. To make it worse, I did it while the neighbours were outside watching.

I start my Cert IV in Training and Assessment tomorrow. And did I mention that I got a big YES on doing my Advanced Negotiation and Crisis Intervention (I really thought my manager was going to say no to me doing that one, so was over the moon when he said yes). I think I'm almost as excited about that one day course as I am about the Cert IV.

That would be me. In my defense I was driving a BUS! Well okay it wasn't a bus, but compared to the itty bitty Honda, or even my mini van it FELT like a bus! The only one to see me, that I'm aware of was my dh. And he saved the trash can any further damage.

Ty missed the bus this morning. The fun thing is that he was up in plenty of time to get a shower get dressed and even have a decent breakfast. But he decided that a 30 minute shower was applicable this morning as was taking 10 minutes to get there in the first place and another 20 to get out. He was up in plenty of time. Aryn over slept and had 15 minutes total. Thankfully she showered last night! She made it to the bus stop in time! Brian ended up delivering Ty to school.

Another busy day on the agenda today. Brian's dropping me off between 10 and 10:30 at school so I can do a volunteer shift. But then he's got to take a friend of ours in for a dr's appointment and outpatient surgery by 11. It's only suppose to take an hour for the surgery if not less and then an hour in recovery. But who knows with these things. So I'm at school til he comes to get me. Ty's got play practice again til 5:30 tonight.

Blessings,

Garsy

Welcome, heremainsfaithful!

I have three children: B is in his freshman year of college, S is in 10th grade, and K is in 3rd grade.

K made the elementary school chorus. She was thrilled to find out she made it. (Her sister called it "choir" the other day. K's response: "This isn't a choir. I tried out for this and made it. It's a chorus.") This means Wednesday mornings are more hectic, as they meet for 20 minutes before school starts. She's not a morning person to say the least, so it's a chore to get her up on Wednesdays.

S and I have play practice each evening for the next two weeks. (I'm helping backstage and wherever needed.) The girl whose part she is now taking has been to two practices since she "quit." I don't know what's going to come of that issue, but I think the director has to make a decision soon, since opening night is two weeks away.

Our band did really well in the last few competitions, 2nd place in two and 1st place in one. We have the semi-final round coming up next weekend, then the state finals (which we are confident we will make this year).

Kylie, I hope things go well for X's classes. Will J be signing up soon, or is this more for upper level students? Congrats on the approval for your class! Sounds like things are going well.

Good for her.

And just to clarify, we do allow anyone to post in this chat thread, not just those of us who send our kids to school, as long as they do not disrespect our choice.

Welcome aboard Heremains! What would you like us to call you?

Too funny about the choir / chorus because at our school it is the opposite. Choirs are small, chorus' are large and take anyone.

Another funny story.

There was a baptism at church this week and DeeDee was acoloyte and had to hold a lit candle for a portion of the service. Well, she looked terrified up there because she has been a bit dropsy at times. And, you need to know that she has long, wavy hair with bangs. Anyhow, she sneezed. She couldn't cover her face or turn her head because she was so scared of dropping the candle so we had the image of her hair flying forward and back and I was looking for it to be smoldering. It was fine and she looked so relaxed afterwards. I guess if you can sneeze without dropping something, you shouldn't have to worry about dropping it when you aren't sneezing...

I'm Stampinlady and I have a 15 yr. old girl and 14 yr. old boy, both in public high shcool doing very well this year and very busy. I spend most of my time at home and driving kids around. Am currently looking for a part time job, but its not a must have.

Dd is home sick with a sore throat and cough today, no fever. I called school and was expecting the "spanish inquisition," but just got a friendly , "OK." The reason I was expecting the quesitons was because they sent a letter home telling us that because of H1N1 they need to ask us more questions. Oh well, thankfully she's not that sick, but am praying for all thsoe wheo are and I knwo there's alot.

Hrf is fine...the real name is too long. It's funny, my students are big into making sure everyone here calls it "chorus" even though you don't have to try out.

My daughter is in show choir this year and is required to wear a formal dress, heels, and MAKEUP. She is not pleased; she's not a girly girl. My 6th grade son is mr. math and computer and is very happy NOT to have his mother as a music teacher. My husband just turned in his dissertation. He'll be a doctor soon (not the sickness kind, the music kind). Oh, and yes, I am a teacher, but my BIG love is writing. That's what I really want to be when I grow up.

I love writing too, but at the age of 44 I think I've decided against growing up. My youngest is 16 - they can grow up for me.

When I called N in sick this morning they asked his symptoms, they usually don't ask. I told them a little cough, fever, and I think I might have said he feels awful. They didn't ask anything else.

When I called to cancel his orthodontist appt the receptionist said she'd been getting a lot of those calls.

Hi, HRF! I'm Susan, SAHM to Dana (5th grade) Nathan (3rd grade) and Jacob (Kindy) and wife to Will (who is, unfortunately, currently unemployed).

We had Jacob's parent/teacher conference today. It went really well. He's been having to move his apple a lot lately, when we asked her what it was over she had to think for a minute LOL. Finally she remembered that he likes to talk to himself a lot and has trouble remembering to be quiet. So no biggie.

J will have the same subjects next year. He doesn't have subject selection this year.

No X tonight. J came home on the bus on his own. X is at a friend's birthday sleepover. They're going to watch Fame.

Kept dd home again today as she was running a low fever last night and still coughing. Poor baby. I just have a little cough.

Danas, ds was like that when he was younger.

Our last home game is tonight. Tailgate party starts in an hour. It's 40ºF out, why did I volunteer to help with a tailgate party?

Because your crazy and a very supportive parent.

Went to see Where the Wild Things Are tonight. It was good but it is definitely NOT for little ones. A lot of parents are going to be disappointed thinking this would be a great show for their preschoolers and early elementary kids and quite honestly unless these kids are bright beyond their years - they won't understand the complexities of this storyline.

Aryn's babysitting class was canceled for tomorrow. Apparently they didn't get enough kids interested in taking it. She's pretty upset that she has to wait and now next weekend is going to be crazier than this weekend was going to be.

So tomorrow is Dance class and that's it. Oh and Brian is getting the van hauled into town to get it fixed!! YIPPIE!!!!!!!

Blessings,

Garsy

Roberta, I'm glad to see that you are home again, and presumably warm. Unless you are posting from the game with a laptop?

Garsy, yay for fixed vehicles!

Got K dropped off at her retreat, well, hubby did. Hopefully she stays well.

Ty's English teacher was being sent home today, with a very good possibility of H1N1. We learned this directly from her as she called us regarding an e-mail we sent her last week about the class and his grades. It's likely that she'll be out all week.

Blessings,

Garsy

we do too - her husband had some pretty serious medical problems that had her out for nearly 2 weeks earlier this year. Praying for both of them.

Blessings,
