Are there no "sacred secrets" anymore? David Letterman joins the list of people whose past "dealings" have been outed. You could say he was "forced" to confess.

With so many skeletons' bones popping up from the ("I'll take this secret with me to the) grave" do we still dare to not reverence the fact that what is hidden shall eventually be revealed?

Should christians clean their closets once and for all and confess their wrong doings? The truth comes out anyway!!

Should they "spill the beans" on national tv?

Should they "spill the beans" in personal confession to the Lord?

Should they "spill the beans" in confession to another person?

Should any decision that a christian makes be based on the conduct of a late night talk show host?

(I am not sure, exactly, what you are asking ... is it one of these 4 questions?)

LOL!!!!

The David Letterman was simply a touch of current events....a segway if you will I take it that it wasn't the best lead--in

However, if God so provides the conviction and opportunity maybe public television would be a platform for christians to air their laundry

Personal confession to God is great but many people, if they'd be honest, would tesitfy that that's not always the end to the story.

James 5 :16 says, "Confees your sins one to another ..... "

I think God tells us this so that we can see other in a true light rather than thinking were the only ones with a problem or issue and it's binds us together. I've put other on pedestals because they were so pius, well at least that's how they walked around and we know what happens when you do that ???? Bad feelings and broken relationships.

I Confess

Lapidoth did it.

No Name (as I am a Mole Snitch), so secret, even I don't know who I am, nor what I am confessing to, nor who to, (but I want a guarantee that my 'Ratings' will go up a notch). (slink away stage right rear, flipping cape over face and left shoulder/ very dramatically).........fade lights.

Really? What type of beans are being spilled?

I visited a secular marriage forum where a post was titled, "Should I tell my wife that my girlfriend is pregnant" Needless to say, I couldn't stomach some of the conversations. It made me ever so grateful despite our differences, debates etc. to be a part of the body of Christ.

However, confession of affairs has been a greatly debated subject here and many Christians feel that it's best not to "spill the beans" and there are secrets beyond marital infidelity. There are "family" secrets that people believe are best left unsaid. I just don't see Christ as synonymous with secret!

I think it depends on the situatioon. Talking bad about the dead is taboo for many, but if someone was abusive or had other issues wouldn't it better for it to get out so that people can heal and moveone and not look like it's their fault?

So then what does 'walk in the light as He is in the light mean? Apparently, if I read my NT correctly, there is no forgiveness without confession and repentance....also plenty in there about being honest in relationships.

Should Christians clean their closets? I would/should think they were doing that anyway ......really it should not even be a question.
God's morality is holy....not interpretive or situational....

As far as David Letterman goes, I wish he would................

I think we have a thread somewhere for this purpose.

Can't get the Mississippi Squirrel Revival song and Sister Bertha Better-Than-You out of my mind when I read this thread:

"As the squirrel made laps inside her dress
She began to cry and then to confess to sins that would make a sailor blush with shame
She told of gossip and church dissension but the thing that got the most attention
Was when she talked about her love life and then she started naming names.

Call me Gullible Gilda or Slower than Sally but.........................huh?!?

You're not suggesting that those who confess their wrong doings are perceived as "better than.....?"

Well I understand what you are saying...I was being...ahem...somewhat sarcastic...not too much mind you, this IS a Christian forum.
Right, well.......

As stated, it should not even be a question....but I think one of the main problems in Christianity today is that sin has been downgraded to 'faults' or 'habits'. Affars? Well comeon...we're all just human.

No actually Christians are to be filled with the Spirit of God...I could go on....

No, actually I was shooting for humor. The irony of the song was that the "holier than thou" Bertha confessed about her love life. The funny part was that she named names (at least it was funny in the song/video).

Not necessarily so funny in real life. A few years ago a pastor in a church near where I live was apparently so persuasive in a sermon where he asked people who had cheated on their spouse to come forward and confess that a whole bunch did so. Many of the spouses were learning of this for the first time, and several divorces resulted.

Ahhhh......

So "slower than Sally" is appropriate
