Yeah, but I did it barefoot. In the dark!

Nowadays I'd prefer vinyl only because it's so much bigger that I might be able to read the notes without a magnifying glass and my glasses.

But I had no legs!! All we had were stubs!!

I miss the old album covers. It let you appreciate the album art. As far as size of print goes, the cassette cases were worse than the CD cases. But after cassettes went by the wayside there was a lot of unemployed gnat typists. BZZZZZZZZZZ! WAPPP!!!!!

BTW, I don't know why I get a headache every time I kill one of those pesky insects! Any suggestions?

Ravneskrik;

I actually disagree with you here quite a bit... part of the enjoyment for me having subscriptions to both Napster and Rhapsody is that I have access to much more music and I don't have to waste an ounce of gas or fight mall crowds. AND on both Rhapsody and Napster, I have discovered more new music and downloaded it onto my MP3 player (30 GIG btw)... on my time, after my kids are in bed, than I could have ever discovered shuffling through cd's... I get to sample before downloading, both services gives me an "others who like...(name band here)... also purchased...(enter other band here)" which leads me to more new music than I would have ever discovered or had time for otherwise. And the final point is that I can download Ha-Nah Chang, Dream Theater, Foo Fighters, Dr. Doom and the new Mute Math without getting any weird looks from the greasy headed, pimply-faced dweeb behind the counter... (LOL)

Still love the cd, too! Love looking in the stores (although that dwindling) and reading lyrics and liner notes.

seems to me like he was referring to the indie record store experience. which you cannot get online. you cant get the SMELL of vinyl while your sifting through, or the click-clack of cd cases. and most indie stores or mom & pop record stores arent in malls, so theres no crowds to fight. i LOVE going to mom & pop record stores... and its a bummer because here in town... theres only like... 2 left? we have Vintage stock also... but its a local chain of comic stores that sells records and cds, but its not a music store.

yeah, i definitely don't mean a mall store filled with $20+ Britney Spears cds or whatever.

Indie stores are great, the ones here are part of a local chain, but they still have that 'indie' feel to them. My favorite is actually located in what used to be a house, two floors and everything, it's pretty cool.

I never get weird looks from the people working there regardless of what I am buying, I generally get an interesting conversation about the history of the band and a bunch of recommendations of other bands with similar sounds.

It's just an over all fun experience, it's never really crowded (except maybe around Christmas time) and you are always guaranteed to have a cool conversation about music with both the people working there and the other people shopping there. And unlike what you might get in a mall store these people actually know what they are talking about.

When my kids come home from school and someone there has said something awful about them I usually ask them "Well are you a ______________?" They always reply "NO" and that ends it... So uncabeeil are you a "Greasy headed, pimply-faced dweeb?" No? Sorry man... honestly besides my wife works retail so it is honestly not an afront to all retail clerks... I am quite sure you run a fine establishment.

Of course I do.

Thats all I listen to. I've never *downloaded* a song to some little device in my life...I couldnt imagine it.

Albums (on CD) are the way to go.

I still love to buy cds-for the lyrics, having a hard copy, getting it autographed, etc...

But I only buy cds that I really love all the songs on, if not I'll just buy the couple songs I like off the cd on itunes (i miss not having the lyrics still though). Also I'll download free songs that I find off artists web sites etc..., and copy cd's on to ipod.

I don't have a dock or way to listen to ipod in car (exept earphones ) and only have one dock at house so I listen to cds alot else where in the house and in car.

For the people who say they have no way to listen to mp3s in their vehicle ... i can use a regular cd player tape adapter on my mp3 player, i just plug it in where the headphones go.

I do the same thing. But I'm betting not too many people have cd/cassette players in their cars. I made the dealer put one in mine or he wasn't getting the sale.

Well i used to love to buy cds and i always wanted to see how many i could get and how many cd holders i could fill up, but i gave up that goal a while ago. for one when u want a cd its so much easier to buy it online and on i tunes its cheaper it like 3-5 $ cheaper so but all that money together and thats a whole lot of many that u just saved:) which saving money is like the best thing in the world w/ me because i have been trying to save up 4 this camera for the part 2 months so thats why i want to save money:p

I have tons of CD's coming to me every month, due to my job, but I have seen a shift in the music business. Some record labels send out digital watermarked copies of CD's to reviewers, instead of hard copies. Makes sense in this time of recession.

However, as a music collector, I do still buy CD's. As a former DJ, I like the feel of celluloid in my hands.

So True!!! What I am not sure about is whether quality is even important for much of the "music" genres? Certainly there are those who truly love music that find MP3s a sacrilege and for the most part justifiably so. The basic fact is that MP3s and such do not compare in quality ... and maybe for many that is no longer important.

Yeah my wife doesn't care. I strictly listen to mp3s at 192kbps and better, I can here the hear the subtle degradation of compression though. But the higher nitrates preserve the quality better. Wife on the other hand downloads songs off YouTube at like 86kbps, it phyically hurts my ears to listen to some of her stuff on her iPod. She doesn't even seem to notice. I've told her if she's going to download songs get them off torrent, thinking I was helping her out get better quality sounding music, but she just really doesn't care and prefers to get the songs from YouTube lol

I still buy CDs. But I throw away all the covers and only keep the CDs in my nice neat little case. Takes up a whole lot less room. Then I copy them onto my phone to listen to anywhere I go.

now THATS the real sacrilege. why don't you save money and just buy mp3s off of itunes/amazon/napster/emusic if you don't even care about the packaging?
