Well, the little paper sleeve with the artwork and words fits nicely in my nice neat little case behind the CD ... and I don't have the bulk of hundreds of cases. And I can get used CDs from the Christian store I go to for a lot less $

mp3s ... yeah, those are okay, but why have another gadget if the phone does the same thing? Less stuff to carry and fidget with, and less stuff to hand over and ask "honey, can you hold this for me?"

Can you tell I'm a mom? LOL

You can get used cds for less than the price of downloading cds anyway, usually $5 - $8, sometimes considerably less if you buy them online or directly from a person who is selling their cds.

The idea of throwing away the booklet is just ... wow, horrible, it makes me wanna cry. :P Well not really, but there is no way I would ever throw away the booklet or the back tray sheet, in some cases the packaging is just as important as the music is. Not to mention if you ever want to sell your used cds I doubt the store will take them without all the artwork.

So True!!! What I am not sure about is whether quality is even important for much of the "music" genres? Certainly there are those who truly love music that find MP3s a sacrilege and for the most part justifiably so. The basic fact is that MP3s and such do not compare in quality ... and maybe for many that is no longer important.

I think quality is important for every music genre.Sadly even a lot of Cd sound isn't as good as it used to be, due to being recorded overly loud.

I do buy CDs when I feel there is new music out that I would really like to own. I still don't own an MP3 player and have no intentions of getting one any time soon.

Mastering has much to do with the final product, and if the sound isn't as good it is either recorded poorly or mixed poorly or mastered poorly! If it's major label then there would be no excuse for anything being done "poorly". Different genres do require different handling in terms of sound quality, so often the genre dictates the mastering technique.

The major labels are the worst offenders of overly loud recordings (the ones that most consistently do it). Most rock and popular music Cd's from the late 90's to the present are mastered louder than Cd's from the early 90's or 80's.That doesn't always result in bad sound quality, but quite often it does.Metallica's latest album is a perfect example of horribly mastered sound.

A few years back or so I remember telling someone my distaste over a lot of current mainstream rock.I mentioned that a lot of it has a very muddled sound, where everything sounds mushed together and the drums sound muffled and buried in the mix.I eventually discovered this You Tube video, which explains the reason for this type of sound:
