So this thread is not really about kids possibly having too much responsibility due to a large family but rather about young women who are choosing to focus on being a wife and mother rather than a college degree and how controlling parents may or may not contribute to this view. Have I got that right?

I want to clarify because the original post gave no indication that this is what the thread is really about.

Like a lot of threads I think it went down a rabbit trail somewhere on page 3 or 4.

Does seem to be a little unfair to dump younger siblings on the older kids.

Two kids for us is plenty!

LOL...the whole reason my older kids have chores is so that I am the one who takes care of the littles most of the time.

There are times I need someone to watch the littles...like when I am taking a shower, or making dinner, etc.

My older ones ASK to take care of the littles sometimes....so that they can get out of their chores I am sure...but sometimes I am glad to trade....

We pair up when we go out....mostly because it is a safety issue that the littles be attached to someone big......

and to be honest...I was more prone to "lose" a child in a store when I only had 2 because I had to have one free hand to to my shopping.....

I asked my older ones about the "dumping" thing...My oldest DD said...."shoot...I'm glad for the experience...it got me that au pair job this summer that paid WAY more than I could have made at anything else.....and I KNEW what I was doing...and the parents KNEW I KNEW...."

My oldest son was like "Dumping? I don't think you do that.....we watch them sometimes...but they are fun to play with...you do all the nasty stuff...."

It is certainly hard to know how the older siblings will react before hand. Some will flourish and enjoy it others will resent it a great deal. Probably depends mostly on where the parents heads are.

It also depends on whether one raises children who are trained to serve each other, or raises children who are focused only upon themselves.....

It also depends on the attitude of the parents...are they being examples of servanthood, or are they selfish and self-centered...demanding "me" time over the good of the family, etc.
