Okay, this isn't mine, but I really, really heart Emily Dickinsen. Here's one of my faves... -Cas ****************************** If You Were Coming in the Fall If you were coming in the fall, I'd brush the summer by With half a smile and half a spurn, As housewives do a fly. If I could see you in a year, I'd wind the months in balls, And put them each in separate drawers, Until their time befalls. If only centuries delayed, I'd count them on my hand, Subtracting till my fingers dropped Into Van Diemen's land. If certain, when this life was out, That yours and mine should be, I'd toss it yonder like a rind, And taste eternity. But now, all ignorant of the length Of time's uncertain wing, It goads me, like the goblin bee, That will not state its sting. -- Emily Dickinson.

Here's what I wrote on the way home from work. Or more exactly what God had to have given me on the way home from work. (Please note that I am OK. While I don't intend to be a johnny one note I remember that good poetry is written from the heart and this is a topic unfortunately near to me. The opening couplet was birthed on the "I have an idea" story thread and has been rolling around in my brain since then. I guess it found it's home. I tend to be super critical of my own writing. I see the errors and the mis-rhymes and broken cadence (can't remember the right word for it). What do you see? ) Rebirth Hunched o'er his workbench softly crying As the rain beats down outside His heart ripped out as if he's dying Bereft of hope and pride He promised to take care of her For her he'd give his life He promised her a life of joy And then made her his wife For many years he kept her safe He held her hand in his But when the final battle came It all came down to this He wasn't strong enough to win To beat that evil foe And when her hand slipped out of his He could only watch her go And so he cries over his work Filled with doubt and shame How could he let her down that way He knows that he's to blame But in a still small voice he hears "Don't blame yourself my son I decide who lives and dies Which battles will be won I decide who stays and goes According to my plan You did all that I asked you to You were my chosen man To keep this little one for me Safe till the final fight To hold her hand tightly in yours Until this final night And so my son lift up your head Her battle has been won For she is now no longer dead She now lives with the Son" Then somewhere deep inside his heart A place that just One knows Hope and joy have been reborn And a single flower grows. (edit to fix capitalization error and second to last stanza)

9/4/05 Just Reach Out By Brad Woolley (1st Verse) I see it in the distance, like a city made of gold the wonder fills my countenance, these thoughts have taken hold sitting up atop a hill, in radiance and splendor in disbelief I catch myself, who on earth may enter Nestled in the faithful care, of hope and love and trust the prize is at the rainbow's end, and seek it out I must if I gave up in the race, could I look back at this face That shouts aloud from every crease if vain is building, let it cease I seek your doubtless sweet release (chorus) Help me understand that Lord, my life is in your hands and lead me in the way that keeps me on your perfect plan no longer will I build my castles on the sinking sand so just reach out, and reassure, this imperfected man (2nd verse) desire is upon me, ringing in my soul so true to stake a claim of lovliness, that rests in perfect view the struggle isn't easy, do I lay back or proceed my insides cry out for his voice, the Lord's word I will heed suppose this door's discreetly sealed I pray you'll give me strength to yield for self maneuvers, I won't wield (chorus) Help me understand that Lord, my life is in your hands and lead me in the way that keeps me on your perfect plan no longer will I build my castles on the sinking sand so just reach out, and reassure, this imperfected man Brad

I had completely forgotten about this thread. I'm blank right now with poetry, but it's good to know this one's been resurrected when something does come along!

Subtle Shades 10/4/99 By Brad Woolley Subtle shades of a heart turning grey, darkened by the stains, of earlier days silent cries from a wounded soul, languishing in pain, an enveloping hole blinded eyes, dead in their sight, makes something so wrong, the comfort of night merciful eyes, opened wide looking on, seeing the hope in a tortured heart gone Wondering where, she hides from the rain, and settles the rapture of an unending pain waiting through seasons of caution and fear, patiently longing to be ever near knowing a flower won't open by force silently waiting 'til it runs it's course subtle shades of an impatience thins, by reflecting on all, that there might be to win. Where is this thread? I wondered one day So I searched for it, then read what y'all had to say Good poems one, good poems all But for months we have written none, no, nothing at all So now is the time to share in some fun. Write poetry and share it with everyone. Just remember, it's in Singles, so let that be your theme Of love shared, love lost, love that's only a dream So come one, come all, come post in this thread Or else all our poetry will be mostly dead! We can't let them die, they're part of our past So let's see how long we can make this thread last!

I've written hundreds of poems (been writing since I was 14). Here's one I wrote back in the day. Friday Night Oh what a lovely picture Painted for the world to see Of a girl with no qualms about life Content with things as they be A smile for this one, a chat for that She holds her head high as she goes Even fooling herself sometimes About the she that nobody knows If I had a word for each tear she’s cried What an accomplished writer I’d be But alas, I do, and that writer I am For the girl with no qualms is me.

And here is one from more recent years. The Door I opened a door once in my life and boldly I stepped in waiting on the other side for me were pleasures wrapped in sin From room to room for several years I roamed each wicked floor until I heard Jesus calling me from the other side of the door He beckoned me down each hallway past each room that I had tried Ever so sweetly calling my name until I was safely back outside Only to discover another door where Jesus stood waiting for me sure of his love, I walked through and finally I was free

In the dark of night on the 7th of June In the pale wan light of a slivered moon Arose a shout that woke the dead And shook the neighbor from his bed As darkness lay upon the ground The earth did tremble with the sound The people shook and quaked in fear What made that awful sound we hear They slunk unto the window pane To face the dread, clear and plain What was this sound, this calamity T'was just the singles at another GT Laughter rang through the air Joyful voices without a care Singers singing high and deep "Keep it down out there, we're trying to sleep!" (edited for typo)

^^^^^^^^^^^June 7th is the anniversery of Hubby's Memorial service. I have only written a few poems and they were not very good. However, I love poetry. I read old poems and hymns as part of my quiet time. Here is one I read since coming here that made me think of you all. How sweet, how heavenly is the sight, When those who love the Lord In one another's peace delight, And so fulfill his word! When each can feel his brother's sigh, And with him bear a part; When sorrow flows from eye to eye, And joy from heart to heart. Joseph Swain
