i am wondering what others including ministers think especially about the last question of this post.

how often do people find a church without something amiss? i remember not finding fault in any teaching before God got ahold of me. now with convictions, i realize and know some things that i cannot ignore. sitting under some is hard when i know some things said are not true.

i am a little leary at the thought of leavingmy current church, although i know i am to have faith. i am feeling the push to just leave believing God has a place for me.

i also know, well, think due to what our preacher has said about others, that when i leave they will say i was drawn away because of deception or that i don't want the truth. it seems as though no one is allowed to leave our church. i know that reads horribly...maybe i am making too much of it.

anyhow, i suppose i am looking for some encouraging words, and i was going to see whether any of you have been in a similar boat. even so, i know i have to do what God is calling me to do regardless. help me Jesus!

also, any in ministry ever tell their sheep that they have all the answers and can take people to perfection?

I know that if I ever stated something like this, I'd be shown the door pretty quickly.

No one has all the answers, we're all on our own journy through this fallen world. And no one, other than the Lord Jesus, can lead us to perfection; not in this life though, but when we're with Him in heaven.

Would this, by any chance, be a church of christ..?

Matthew

Amen Matthew
Beware of any person who says they have all the answers. By them saying this they only decieve themselves.

Hi --- I'm writing not because I'm a minister, but I attended a church that had lots "amiss". My husband and I both were leaders in a main ministry within this church, and had felt God pushing us to leave. I began seeing all sorts of things as God began opening my eyes. It was scary to leave and not know exactly where we were going, although we did have an idea. When the Lord began nudging us to go we began praying that if the Lord wanted us to leave, that He would show us where He wanted us to go next, and to also make a way for us to be done with the ministry we were leading. Two weeks after praying that the church cancelled this very large ministry in their church -- not because of anything we had said -- it was totally the Lord, because we were willing to stay if it was the Lord's will. We continued to stay just so as to try to make a "clean" exit" and periodically just began attending another church (the one we felt the Lord was calling us to) every other Sunday. Then at the first of the year, the Lord said "new year, new church" and we haven't been back since.

It was very difficult because we had a lot of people saying bad things about us and lost a lot of friends. They think because we left we are no longer walking with the Lord. One young woman that had been in the ministry that I had led had kept in touch with me -- she began mentoring with a new leader in the old church. This leader told her she shouldn't hang around me. I was devastated.

Like you, we had heard the other elders and leaders say of others when they would leave that they had "fallen away" or they were "yeast" and needed to be removed. I remember when I would hear these things it would hurt my heart for those that had left. I remember one elder referring to a woman (who was a friend of mine) as a "Jezebell" -- I was horrified. Now this "Jezebell" (interestingly) is leading a ministry in this church (so I've heard).

To the comment telling "their sheep that they have all the answers and can take people to perfection?" I outloud said "WOW"! Nobody can take you there except Christ, and that won't happen until He comes again and we are with Him in Paradise!

The scripture I can give you that is coming to mind is this: Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."

I will keep you in my prayers and wish you the best on this new endeavor. I know personally it was not an easy task, but with God by your side, you can do anything. Phil 4:13 "I can do everything through Him who gives me strength." "Him" being Jesus Christ. Please post back, or PM me if you wish.

I have read a lot of information also on spiritual abuse, and we endured that at our last church quite significantly -- I didn't know it at the time, just knew something was wrong. The Lord took me to the information, and as He revealed it to me gradually -- it was hard, but began the healing process. It's been 9 months since we left our last church, and I still am working on it and the healing, but do know that God won't waste this hurt and it will be used for His glory. All my best to you.

Billy Graham once said, and I paraphrase, 'If you ever truly find a perfect church, join it, and it won't be perfect anymore. There is no such thing.'

Every church has problems. The only truly regenerate church will be the gathering of the Saints when Jesus comes back.

Until then, we have to choose the best we can with the knowledge we have. If your church is built on false Biblical doctrine or has false teachers leading it, you should change--you don't want to be the blind following the blind.

Not good.

Absolutely every church has problems -- please be prayerful and make sure it is the Lord prompting you to go, and not an offense. We stayed for another 1 1/2 years to be prayerful about leaving. When we would ask the Lord "when?" He would tell us to remain faithful to what He had called us to do -- so we did until He released us from the ministry -- by our church cancelling it.

Yes, at our church there was biblical doctrine that was off, and they were allowing false teachers into the church, and encouraging us to read books by false teachers.

This is just my experience. We are now at a church that seems very biblically sound, doctrinally, and while its not perfect, we are very happy with the teaching we are getting there, and love that we haven't endured any spiritual abuse.

I wish you all the best, and again will keep you in my prayers. Keep us posted.

I want you to know that it is not normal for a church to turn against someone who leaves. Over the years (I'm an old lady) I've left three churches. Each has been loving and we parted in a friendly way. I kept up friendships and sometimes visited.

I attended a church in this area for ten years. I felt it just wasn't for me anymore - I wasn't growing. No one has said a harsh word when I left. People fit in different places. We are one body.

Such a true and heartfelt statement.

The Chruch that Christ is coming back for is the Saints, not the wannabes, the hypocrites, or those trying to skate some sin past the Lord.

Christ is coming for;

(Eph 5:27) That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Thanks
RC

thanks all :-), again. i have not left yet. at the moment i suppose i am having fear of the unknown. my small church comprises just about everyone (cept 1) i talk about spiritual things/God/Jesus/Holy Spirit with. not that i don't talk to others, but i am sure we all know that not everyone really wants to share testimony, etc. i don't know for sure but was only going how they treat others who leave, and they don't hang out anymore. if you do, it's they know more and are in the right and the other person is in the wrong. of course all the talk is mostly done after that outsider leaves... we all have faults, i know i do. i do have to pray and ask God for His strength.
