They're making themselves look like hate-filled fools. Jesus' image is just fine. His image isn't "fine" to unbelievers. This group, to unbelievers, sends a message that Christianity, and Jesus and God by association, is a hate-filled religion/lifestyle. It simply affirms what many of them already believe. When this is the public face of Christianity that the world sees, you can't really expect that they will come running to us with open arms, LOL. If they're burning Bibles then anyone looking at them would tend to think they're not Christians, wouldn't you think? I doubt they're true believers. And Jesus chose to use imperfect human beings to be His ambassadors here on Earth. He knows what He's doing, so I tend to believe His image will survive this kind of thing.

If you look at their web site, apart from the KJVO book burning thing, there really isn't that much to distinguish them from any other far-right conservative Christian church. Their statement of faith is pretty standard, and the pastor seems a little obsessed about pointing out that women who pose in Playboy are sinners, as are the sports stars who marry them... Here's their church web site: http://amazinggracebaptistchurchkjv.com/welcome.html The have a whole page dedicated to the book burning, if you're interested! One thing's for sure, given the massive amount of stuff on their web site, they must have a load of time on their hands!

Burning Bibles. . . on Halloween . . . I guess they decided to give the devil worshipers a year off.

Be fair, I don't think they are even in the same league as Westboro. It's a little kooky, to say the least, but they seem to have uploaded lots of sermons of old-time preachers I would have thought were well thought of around these parts. (I'm not American, and don't recognize their names, so could be wrong, I guess).

We do get a good snicker over it, though. WormHeart Agnostic here. Agreed. Also, Satanists could care less who's burning what. Considering Halloween is the second holiest day of the year for them and they don't actually worship Satan, which means partying it up like the rest of the ye olde sinners...I think they're a little preoccupied. As for the devil worshipers...good luck finding one who can actually spell "worshiper."

Hmmm, if this guy was around when the KJ Bible came out, he probably would've burned it.

Mine was more of a "While it's been brought up..." kinda post. There are too many Christians who can't tell the difference between a Satanist and an actual person who worships Satan. Which is even more of a minority than Satanists.

It seems to me if they want the most accurate versions to use they would be teaching Greek and Hebrew so they can read from the original language texts then. But then again there are a few versions of those too.

There are certainly a number of translations and paraphrases out there that I would not trust as God's Word! The closer you stick to the exact original text in your translation, the more God's inspiration comes out in the details. I've noticed there's definitely something lost in the translation if you try to make it too close to our everyday speech. I have, however, found the NIV and the NKJ versions to be as awe-inspiring as the KJV, and even not as misleading in some parts. But I guess that is part of a discussion for another thread, so I'll leave it at that!

If you scroll down their page. . .according to these people the Anglican, Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Vineyard churches are all cults. And the Catholic church - wowee. What a name they gave to them. . .yeesh. Well. . .the "Worlds Greatest Preacher" page might shed a little light on the issue here. Are there really people this backwards in the world?

I find this issue very very strange. I grew up in a KJV-Only Church....and it was a non-evangelical Church of England church! I only got to understand the Christian faith for myself when I was given a bible in a language I could understand - the NIV. So it's just really strange for me to see KJV-Onlyism associated with fundamentalism. Other than KJV-Onlyism, the church I grew up in is everything this church considers heretical and unbiblical.

It's wierd that the only part of their doctrinal statemnet they can't back up with scripture is: We believe that the King James Version is the Word of God.
