quote:

Amo 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

I believe we are here, but would like to here the thoughts of others. I would think this would encompass the world due to the next verse.

quote:

Amo 8:12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

Which I also believe segues almost seamlessly...

quote:

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Anyone else think this particular prophecy is truly filled now? Or do we have a bit to go yet.

Thanks for reading...

I don't think we're any more like this passage than we were at many other economically and politically unsound periods in our history. People have been trying to link the time they've lived in to Biblical prophecy ever since it was written. I'm just not convinced.

Dh and I feel that we are in the period of time right now.

Hmm... wonder if the 400ish years in between the last time "the word of the Lord came to" someone (i.c., the Book of Malachi) ... and God's speaking to Zechariah that his wife, Elizabeth, would bear the forerunner and that the Messiah was coming soon (i.e., Matthew 1) was a fulfillment of the prophecy already?

And since Amos 8's contents are written to Israel, I figure the warning was to them about God's judgment of the nation's sins and of the coming result of that judgment.

To me, 2 Timothy is a bit different... but related. I think Paul's comment was about humans in general -- that the times are going to keep getting worse and worse, the unregenerate as well.

We have the completed Word of God... but not all want to hear it.

I think both passages speak to the human nature's not wanting to hear from God... or not wanting to hear what God really has to say, rather wanting to hear what "tickles their fancy."

Am I on track? Off it? Way off in a field?

I agree. It seems someone is always trying revive fulfilled prophesies and fit them to today's headlines.

Well, this is why I was asking.

I'm not in the habit of making panicky, unsubstantiated claims regarding prophecy (or much else really), but wouldn't I be in error of sorts if I had a question and didn't pose it to people more learned than I?

Hey, don't feel bad for asking. That's what the forum is all about.

I'm in Elena's field. . .

God's words are words of love but love that also brings deep conviction. Many reject that kind of love. Man chooses not to hear both other men and God to stay in their illusion of control.

God's word is all around us. The heavens are telling afterall. But man was given the right to choose. Most choose to go their own way. Most choose against love.

Hi Liveloved, thank you for the reply.

I have to say I don't feel badly at all , God gave me much thicker skin that that ...

I hear what you and Elana are saying, and do agree with you. I just love searching the scriptures from time to time, and if a question arises I love the "Wow" moments that come occasionally when our Good Lord gets something through my thick old skull.

Peace...
