I wondered about that. I thought if you lease that whoever you lease it from has to handle repairs and maintenance but my husband thought the leasee would still have to handle it.

Repairs are still the responsibility of the individual. Maintenance is often offered as a "freebie". Of course, you are paying for that somewhere along the line via the purchase price or in the repairs that the dealer gets to do when you bring the car in for an oil change and the mechanic notes 5 other things you could consider doing.
Edit: forgot to add that most repairs would be warranty items, depending on the term of the lease. In a sense you are both right, the individual would be responsible for non-warranty items but those should be very few.

My brother leases my SIL's car because she doesn't drive a lot of miles around and enjoyes having a new car every 2 yrs. They have done this their entire marriage. It works for them, he says that he found this to be the least expensive way to keep her in the new car she wants. For them the maintenance is included in the lease fees.

I thought it had to do with avoiding costly repairs when the car gets to a certain age.
