Yep he has a stroller. We do not go out every day. I think as soon as he sees the car seat come out (it fits onto the travel system stroller) he automatically goes to sleep. Same when he sees the moby come out.

I just want my body back. I want to be able to start back on a strenght training program or do some of my at home videos that I'm not sure my body is ready for yet. Pregnancy may only last 9ish months, but the recovery adds to it at least a month, IMHO....if not longer.

I guess it does not help that I seem to be pretty tired most days too.

It will come, Sharon, you will improve from week to week. (I mean it!)

How much sleep are you getting at the moment? And would you say that you are eating properly (healthily)/regularly?

Sharon, do you have any walking dvds? Or can you find some cheap/free online. That might help you build up more gradually. The ones I have use kicks, knee lifts, light hand weights etc and it is very easy (for me at least) to adjust to your level. If it wasn't for the stinking round ligament pain I've had with both kiddos I could probably do them well into the 3rd trimester (and I am not a very fit person). I also found they worked well after I had Josh and it was too hot and humid to go out walking. I didn't start back this soon though. How many weeks post partum are you? You might also find that you get some use out of shorter/lighter workouts during the winter when you want to do something but don't have the energy for your usual one.

Thanks. That's when I really started to feel like I could do everything again except lift heavy stuff. That took another couple of weeks. I don't think I'd do much more than walks with the stroller or those light walking DVDs though. Too easy to overdo with anything fast paced for me at least. I'd do the kicks and stuff very low - ankle high and do the arm motions without weights until I had a good idea of what my body was ready for. For me it was all about getting back to a normal routine a step at a time. I really had to balance doing too much with not enough - I tend to extremes sometimes.

Kris

ETA: That is not to say I tried to do everything at that point. I didn't drive for 2 more weeks for instance, just by then I felt much better. And could start adding more chores and stuff that even a week before felt like far too much. Like I said, all about balance.

I'm getting more sleep now. Derrek wants to eat on a regular schedule now, so I am getting 6ish hours a night. Still though, I get so tired so fast. I feel like I should be healing faster than this.

Where are you getting your standard from, about how quickly you should be healing? To whom are you comparing yourself?

LOL....I'm comparing it to my recoveries from laproscopic surgeries. I know how different they are from the CS. I just want to feel normal again. I sort of thought I would feel more normal, faster. Perhaps I would be had I not ended up with the section.

My dear girl!! A section is like having a hysterectomy - except they put it all back. After a hysterectomy the norm is 6 weeks' rest, and yet after a section you can't rest, you have a baby to look after.

It will get better. In just a week's time you will feel better than you do now, in two weeks even more so. Try and be patient. Somehow I imagine that might not be easy for you <ducks> but try and be patient, you *will* get there soon.

(FWIW my recovery after my vaginal delivery, even though it was a Ventouse delivery including an episiotomy, was much quicker. That's not the same for everyone though.)

I just want my body back.

That may be a long time. I have heard everything from 9mo to 3years til your body is fully back to being recouped.

I can't say for sure about c-sections, but I know after a regular vaginal birth it takes me about 6-9mo to be able to really not get worn out at the drop of a hat or after about 15 minutes or so. It really does take a lot out of you to have a baby...and add to that your abdominal muscles being cut and having to heal, and it will just be a while. Don't push yourself. You have your whole life (unless you have another baby) to get over this...it will happen.

Has your iron been checked, Sharon? Sometimes anemia can be an issue after delivery.

Not since I left the hospital. I do still have some slow FE left. Perhaps I should go back on that and see if it helps. I'm normally borderline anemic anyhow.

Sharon,

I'd suggest you wait and have a blood test done at your 6 wk check, just to be sure. Also it would be wise to check with your doctor anyway before taking an iron supplement as it will likely get passed into your breastmilk.

The thyroid can also take a while to recover after having a baby, and if that's a bit sluggish it can cause tiredness.

SlowFe is safe for nursing, Sharon. It's the same thing "they" had me take after giving birth. If your generally borderline anemic then it's certainly not going to hurt anything to take it... Are you still taking your prenatals or some other sort of multi-vitamin as well?

What I was thinking of is that if Sharon's doctor does want to take blood at her 6wk check, the anaemia test won't give a true result if she is taking a supplement.

Also, if she just so happens *not* to be at all anaemic right now, and takes the iron supplement, it would mean she'd taken it unnecessarily and would not know, and taking too much iron could cause problems.

I'm still taking my prenatals, and they do have iron in them. But honestly, I have not been very consistent in taking them EVERY DAY. So maybe I'll start there and see how that goes. My 6 week postnatal appointment is December 7th. Not sure if they will do an iron test or not. I'm also due for a papsmear but again, I'm not sure if they will do that or not. I'm guessing it would be ok to go ahead and do it at that time.

Other than check the uterus and such, what else do they do at the postnatal appointment?

I had a pap smear at my 6 week check. They will check your incision, talk about birth control, make sure your mood has leveled out, I think that was pretty much it.

*basic vitals
*urine check if you have had kidney issues (or sometimes if you ask)...most of the time that's saved for pre-nat's though not post-nat's.
*pap...they like to get it in there when they have you in there for other things anyway.
*check incision
*check uterus to see how it is going down
*check breasts sometimes for lumps or bfing advice or refer to lactation consultant
*usually they will have you fill out a form of questions to see if you need meds or to talk to someone about PPD

I think that's about all...again, some have done it all some have not- just depends greatly on your dr.
