ORIGINAL: Liveloved BTW, I know you know this manda. . . and why you asked your question. Actually, though of course this is an open public message board and anyone is free to respond to any message, it just didn't occur to me that anyone else would jump in here. Oh, I'm sorry I responded.

ORIGINAL: TheTartanTammy To answer your question from a pastor's point of view, let me quote from Paul who had to deal with a lot of wrong attitudes in the church... 1 Cor 2: 15 - 16 "...The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment: "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ." Anr you implying that if you thnk its wrong, then it is wrong; period? Thanks RC

TT: Please note the 6th word from the end of the passage you quoted: "WE." It is not that "I" or "you" singular have the mind of Christ. Indeed, the apostle who wrote the lion's share of the NT did not claim "I" either. I would take the implication of that to be that it cannot be contained in any one individual. It is the collective together, "we" that have that mind. How does the rest of your leadership team take it?

It is the job of the pastor (as he/she walks in close fellowship with our triune God) to have a discerning spirit about what is going on in the church. Particularly with a view to upholding Gospel values and protecting the sheep as the Lord's under shepherd.

Please read the 6th word in the context of the entire letter. Or the whole NT. It is never in the singular.

Particularly with a view to upholding Gospel values and protecting the sheep as the Lord's under shepherd. Yet the pastor (if there is one; where I was converted there was no pastor, but a team of elders and deacons) is just a man, a human, and is fallible. Also, whereas a pastor, or one with pastoral gifts, should have the gift of discernment, it's by no means a given that he has it (nor is the gift of discernment limited to pastors).
