I'm an Emergency Department RN, and I find my work extremely stressful (super steep learning curves, a lot of responsibility, inadequate training, dire consequences for misdeeds, more missed breaks than breaks taken). That said, I'm paid very well and 95% of the time I love what I do.

now I've never been a social worker. But I was assistant office manager at a nursing home and I befriended the social worker there. She was always stressed out. Between the: unhappy residents, the confused ones who just stopped by her office all the time and the family members jumping down her throat for this or that, this poor girl had to do mountains of paperwork. She had to file a police report on a resident once because he went berserk and broke some girl's toe with his wheelchair. Not the most glamorous job around. She ended up quitting after 8 months.

ORIGINAL: agapetos When I worked in factories, we were treated with more respect than when I worked in retail. The factories I worked in were far more 'hot' on ensuring we were given the breaks were were entitiled to. Retail were far more lax and would push to avoid giving you any. Was the factory a union shop? -Dan.

my most stressful job was working in a long term care facility for the profoundly handicapped. Unfortunately, it wasn't the job itself that was stressful.. it was the people and the very shoddy management. If you weren't liked, you constantly had to watch your back and... there was no anti-bullying/harassment policies in place so if you were being treated badly.. oh well.. It was so terrible for me, I have to see a therapist to get past some of the extreme trauma I endured for a decent paycheck. took some horrific abuse for it.. and the union was of little help. And people seriously wonder why some snap and come into the workplace with weapons and shoot the place up.. Maybe if there were anti bullying policies in place this wouldn't happen. or happen as often...
