I have. He tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear too.

saw and heard today.. clear as day.. through the actions and kindness of two strangers at a store. my whole family just got hit with another nasty flu bug and I couldn't afford medication AND.. supplies. So two very nice gentlemen not only paid for part of my purchase, but gave me extra money for just in case. They didn't know me, for all they knew I was lying through my teeth.. But the reality is, I was touched, humbled * cried in front of a whole lineup of people* and I won't forget this kindness. I promise God and myself I'll pay it forward..

Thank you and bless you Jesus!!!

Audible means to hear him with your physical ears. And no, I haven't heard him with my physical ears. But, I have heard him with my spiritual ears many, many times. And he speaks just as loud and clear so I can not only hear, but understand. Praise the Lord for his mercy towards his children.

Have you ever heard God speak in an audible voice?
Yes. Once. I was a college student and I was praying about something and I heard HIM ask me a question, which He asked 3 times:

"Why are you here?"

That reminds me of one vacation when I was backslidden. My dad had just turned on the TV in the living room, while I remained in my bedroom. The first thing that came out of the TV set was some preacher asking the question "What are you living for?" I immediately felt the Holy Spirit speak these words into me.God doesn't always speak to me in a sudden immediate fashion, but that was one time he did.

As far as the audible voice of God goes I have never heard it.However there were two occasions God literally spoke words into my mind (something that is literally heard yet not an audible voice). It's something that might not make sense to anybody unless they experience it.And I'm not schizophrenic.

The first time I received one of these special words was in February 1998.One night that month I expressed my concern to God that I might not be able to keep myself from backsliding into the same habitual sin.God responded that night by speaking these encouraging words into my mind:
"You Can Do It!".About 5 or 6 months later I was at a youth camp where there was a fiery Pentecostal preacher from Alabama.Toward the end of the service he came up to me and said "The devil keeps telling you that You Can't Do It.Do you agree with me that is the devil? It's the devil! Run to God!"

The second time, I think it might of been in 1999.I was praying to God, telling him that I really wanted to hear from him.God responded some days after, shortly before the alarm was about to go off at 6 am.I was having a nice rest on my bed that work morning, when I began to sense the presence of God and heard these words go off in my head: "Prepare Yourself To Listen".After that I totally came out of my sleep and it was maybe 5.55 am (just a little before the alarm would go off).

No, I haven't. And I don't know anyone who has. I do not think it is Biblical that God would speak to us directly in an audible voice. We have his Word and Jesus paid the price on the Cross. That's all we need. All answers (an instructions) are in the Bible. Jesus said on the Cross that it is finished. No more needs to be said or done.

It is completely biblical. What is unbiblical is cessationist theology which promotes the idea that God can't do this anymore. He spoke that way in both the Old Testament and New Testament and there is no scripturaly sound basis for believing he doesn't do it anymore.

There is no scripturally sound basis that says He does. However, the Word of God is full of instructions for us to use and tells us that the Bible is our guide and has all the answers that we need. It was finished on the Cross. God doesn't need to talk to us if we would follow his instructions. The price has been paid and the work has been completed.

Yes God responds to me often while praying. The responses are general short...like "I will", "Yes I will" and I've even "I said I would" when I've ask a second time. I have had times when it was in the form of a conversation; I had ask for help pertaining to my mother. I ask for help, received instructions and then I said "that won't work", the response back was "yes it will, do it".

These things are all in the mind, they are not an actual voice. It is Gods spirit talking to my spirit. I think these occurrences happen more than we think, it's just that we don't recognize them for what they are. It is so easy to think...I"m talking to myself, or answering my own questions. As a result, most people say..."No God doesn't talk to us".

In Messiah,

Bob

For me, God always speaks to me differently. Sometimes through other people, reading something, etc. This one time, God spoke to me loud and clear. I used to work at our church and the children's ministry. One of my co-workers was telling me a story about how God led her to witness to someone she has never met in a restaurant. It was such an amazing story. We were all praying together, just like every morning. I had my eyes closed and head bowed just asking God why He hasn't used me like that. And all of a sudden this voice said "That is what you are doing here with these children". It kind of startled me that I jumped and opened my eyes.

Yes there is.

What do you do with all the biblical recorded cases (both Old and New Testament) of God speaking audibly? And if the "audible voice" thing was finished at the cross, why did the Apostle Paul experience it in Acts 9? The events that happened in Acts 9 was long after the cross and Jesus ascending into heaven.

When Jesus said "it is finished" he was referring to the work of the atonement. The Old Covenant system of sacrificing bulls and goats was no longer needed.Jesus paid the price for man's sin once and for all. That's what was finished. He certainly didn't mean that God was finished talking to man (be it audible or non-audible).If that was the case, Jesus wouldn't have spoken audibly from heaven to Paul in Acts 9.And remember it was AFTER the finished work of the cross that the Comforter (the Holy Spirit) was sent to the church, TEACHING them all things and SPEAKING whatever he hears from the Father. You can read about this in John 16:5-15 and John 14:16-29.It's kind of hard to comfort or teach someone if you don't talk or communicate something to them. And that thing about speaking should be self explanitory.

It was also AFTER the finished work of the cross that the Apostle Peter got up and spoke of God speaking to people with prophecy, visions, and dreams in the LAST DAYS.(See Acts 2:14-21).Sometimes this LAST DAY speaking from God includes hearing the voice of God in a vision (Acts 9:10-16 being one example). So God didn't finish talking to people at the cross. That is abundantly clear from scripture. It is the price for our sin that is finished, NOT a personal relationship with God.

Not everything that is said to be the voice of God is God.That's why we need discernment. But God is still talking to man.To say otherwise is against scripture.

If God doesn't talk to man anymore, that means the Holy Spirit doesn't convict the world of sin anymore. It means that the Father isn't drawing people to himself anymore. It means that there is no longer a Comforter who teaches us the truth of the bible and Jesus doesn't reveal himself to anyone today (as John 14:21 mentions).

I've never heard God speak in an audible voice but I most certainly believe He does. I've heard the testimony of trusted and respected people in my life (those who do know the difference between God speaking to our "hearts" versus an audible voice ).

Why would we not believe the testimony of those who say they have? What is the gain from telling their testimony? (granted, some people will say they saw bigfoot---you take it with a grain of salt) but for the most part, God-fearing and God-loving people say they've heard from God. Are they bold-faced liars?

I'm so grateful to serve a God whose ways are not limited by the understanding, acceptance, approval and beliefs of mere mortals. How else can we truly worship Him!?!!!

It's called ''Having a form of Godliness but denying his power (2tim 3:5)
There was a pastor who made an altar call for the sick, when one got up and started jumping and walkimg back to her seat without assistance(something she couldn't do in 4 yrs) the pastor still did not believe she got healed. Well she IS and has been completely healed for over 10 yrs. Sadly some christians are 2 timothy 3:5 christians.

I hear God speaking to me everyday through different things. I have only heard an audible voice one time. The short story is I was swimming with a friend of mine and despite my efforts he drowned adn i nearly did myself. A couple of days later after much agony, i went by myself to the spot where he drowned. i was ready to just let myself go, because i couldn't bear the thought of not being able to save a close friend of mine. I couldn't get it out of my head that i wasn't worth nothing. As soon as i was about to give up and drown myself, I heard God's voice and HE said I am not done with you adn you will carry out the works i have planned for you. It was a soul shattering experience and i felt as though i had an earthquake going on inside of me.

Yes, generally He will use someone so that I can hear with my physical ear, however I've also heard Him with my spiritual ear.

Yes, it was the day my daughter died. I was praying/begging/bargaining with Him on the way to the hospital asking Him to leave her with us. She had been airlifted. I heard Him tell me no, that she was home. I looked around the car to see if DH, our pastor and friend had heard it. No one else seemed to have heard but a peace that could not be explained came over me. My prayer changed then to one asking Him to help me to be strong and to help accept His plan and His will. When we walked into the hospital they put us into a private room which confirmed what I already knew.

I have not heard God speak to me in an audible voice, but the times He has spoken to me were so strong that it might as well have been.

The night almost 4 years ago that I went out to buy a battery for my car and ended up in a small church in my hometown was one of them. I went into the church, not sure why I was there. I just thought, "Ok, God, I'm here, now what?" All of a sudden, God said to me, "If you come to me, I will heal you". It was such a strong presence that it startled me. I had been sick for so long (Bipolar disorder and a self-injury disorder) that I actually said, "heal me of what?" He just kept repeating it to me, until I came forward to the altar. I actually felt my sickness leave me, and haven't had a single symptom since.

Another time, close to 2 years later, I woke up feeling sick and almost jokingly asked out loud, "Lord am I pregnant?" and before I could even finish the question God answered "YES" so loud in my head that it again startled me. Turns out that 11 years after my 3rd child was born, God blessed us with another baby boy, one who would never know a mom sick with mental illness.

Sometimes I wish He would speak out loud to me, but I think it might scare me half to death.

Why wouldn't He? If you claim to have a personal relationship with God, you had best have personal(not just the general instructions of the Bible) communication on an on going basis or you do not have a relationship. I'm not saying that you have to hear God's voice, but He does communicate to you regarding your personal life.

Think about it. If you are a Christian, the infinite God lives inside of you. He knows exactly what you feel, knows what you are thinking about, what you are dreaming about and what your fears are. I think it's absurd for God not to communicate to you given his intimate proximity to you. Other wise, what's the point of living inside of you?

Sure there is no new doctrine being given, but there are times when God gives certain individuals specific audible direction. True, it does not happen that often, but it does happen.

Let me give you an example. I just finished reading this book on a missions organization that had a unique approach to missions in India by an author I was not familiar with. I was thinking of supporting them but was not sure because I really didn't know them(of course any believer who read his Bible knew the guy was on the level). I was in the kitchen drinking some grape juice when all of a sudden, I heard this voice say, “You know, my servants in third world countries don't even have juice to drink.”

And God does have a sense of humor too. A very similar scenario happened to me several years latter in reverse.

Jesus is our example in all things. You don't read a whole lot about God speaking to Him in an audible voice, but it did happen.

That is usually how God speaks to me as well, however there is a certain "voice" that enters my mind sometimes that is quiet and subtle that I am sure is the voice of God speaking to me too.

No, I never have.

Apparently God has never had the need to speak to me directly. While He clearly can, and does on occasion, we should not go around expecting to hear directly from God. God has given us all the principles and guidance that the vast majority of us need for our entire lives through the teaching we find in the Bible. That is generally enough.

Yes.
It was Christmas morning 1999.
I was in a terrible depression and had been contemplating suicide. My husband was in the kitchen with the children getting the Christmas dinner started while I was in the living room thinking about when and how and where to kill myself.

I heard Him say, in a resounding voice, that reached all the way into me and as loudly as I have ever heard anything, "Do you trust Me?"
I tried to answer flippantly, "Yes of course I do."
He asked again, "Do you trust Me??"
The second time I broke down bawling like a baby and answered truthfully, "Very little".
Gently, He asked, "Why?"
I answered, "Because I don't know what You are going to do".
He said, "Give Me what little faith you DO have and I will cause it to be an oak tree of faith that others will come to for shade".

That was the end of the descent into depression and suicide and since then I have seen God fulfill that word to me.

It still brings me to tears to remember that.

What a complete shame if we as believers envy and therefore do not believe that God has spoken. My husband had an experience with God that I witnessed right before me (I won't go into detail) but even though I was unable to see what my husband saw in the room that night, God did make it abundantly clear to me that He was there. I'm blessed to know that I serve a personal, intimate God whether He chooses to speak to me audibly or not. He's spoken many times in my heart though.

Not audibly, but pretty close. It happened twice, and both times it "sounded" to my mind the same as an audible sound would, except that I knew my physical ears were not involved.

First time: Ten years ago, I was looking for a new church. When I set foot in the sanctuary of one of them, God said "This is your church. You're staying right here." It startled me a fair bit; I'm sure the sidespeople were puzzled to see me looking wildly around trying to figure out who spoke. He practically chuckled when I tentatively thought, "Uhhh.... God? Was that you?"

Second time: soul searching at a bus stop, I asked God what was standing between us. He said, "You'll have to give it up." I said "Give what up? Why do I have to give it up anyhow? Can't I still follow you and keep whatever it is? What is it anyway?" He replied, "What's the one thing that you're so determined not to give up that you're fighting me tooth and nail on it?" I knew what the answer was--a guy I was interested in at the time, who had not shown the slightest interest in me. In that moment I knew God was right. A month later, the man who is now my husband began to look tremendously interesting to me.

I really don't recommend soul-searching at a bus stop though. Blubbering in public is rather embarrassing.
