Whole Story quote:
Police now believe a call to 911 reporting a masked gunman inside the Westwood Wal-Mart Sunday night was a hoax. Officers entered the store entered with guns drawn and ordered everyone out. Police got a report that a masked man was inside with a gun but all they could find was a man with a surgical mask who was using an ATM. So, I'm in Walmart last night doing some shopping when this goes down. I had just stepped outside with my kids, my sister (who is blind) was inside with her daughter. I saw the first two police officers run in, and I stepped back inside the door and called to her daughter to come with us. I assumed there was a fight or shoplifter or something of that nature. In the time it took for me to turn back around to walk across the apron to the parking lot, three more police cars come screeching in, and police officers get out with their guns drawn, one jacking a round into a shot gun and they go running inside. I could see my sister through the glass doors - she was terrified. I sent the children to the van with my son, and told him to call his father and I went back inside to get her. We couldn't leave. We were on the floor for the better part of half an hour, just waiting. More police arrived, more guns. There is no sound quite like rounds being chambered into those big shotguns. I hope that if and when they catch whoever made that call, they nail him to the wall. He reported a man with a shotgun (not reported in the news story, but everyone within hearing distance of the police radios heard the dispatcher say, "Witness said the man had a large shotgun.") and also a hostage, which was also untrue. The poor guy in the surgical mask had come and GONE by the time this happened. I've never seen so many scared people in my life, or such a waste of resources with emergency services. I'm thankful however, that everyone was safe, and that our police responded with the force they deemed necessary, and were so thorough in searching for this "suspect." Kudos Cincinnati PD and all the Townships who responded.

It doesn't surprise me that something like this would happen at Wal Mart.

The guy with the surgical mask using using the ATM may have been carrying something harmless such as an umbrella. I did vendor work at Wal Mart for a couple years and carried two cell phones. One was a flip phone and the other was an older model about 6 or 7 inches long. I carried it in a phone holster and got stopped once by a greeter who wanted to know why a vendor thought he had to carry a gun. When he realized it was a phone, we both had a good laugh.
