In general? Specifically Christian market? Any particular sub genre (historical, contemporary, suspense, etc.)? Christian-market: Deeanne Gist's American historicals are my current favorites. You'll likely get some recommendations for Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers (also an American historical) - the style is a little dated and melodramatic for my taste. I also got burnt out on Amish-themed novels after reading a few, but for some reason they are overwhelmingly popular in the Christian market. Mass-market historical (not specifically Christian market): Georgette Heyer's classics might fit the bill. She pretty much invented the "Regency" romance (ie historical romance set in the Regency period in England). Her books were originally published from the 1920's through the 1960's and are still widely available today. Of course, Jane Austen's novels, while not being only romances, have central romances in them. As far as more contemporary authors, with many of them you have to weed through objectionable content, but there are some out there I enjoy. Julia Quinn, for example, had to be highly influenced by Austen and Heyer. Her novels are very witty and the characters' family relationships are a significant part of the novels as well as the romances. Now, contemporary, suspense, fantasy romance, sci-fi romance, there's more, so let us know if you were thinking more along some of those sub genres.

I haven't read too many romance books, and the ones I've read are all Christian fiction. But out of the ones that I have read, I would say that the best Christian romance book is Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers.
