I have found that black beans are awesome when seasoned right and prepared in a crock pot all day - yummy! We are getting closer and closer to being debt free and some days I wonder if it's ever going to actually happen, but then I see the balances getting lower and lower and I am encouraged. I have finally gotten over the "woulda coulda shoulda's" and gotten busy with fixing the mess we created.
I never really thought about settling debt in a negative light before. My dh and I had a lot of old debt from when I was sick and when we became Christians and started paying things off, we started getting letters from the collection agencies asking us to settle the debt for a certain amount. Since I really have no way of knowing how much the debt was originally (manic behavior is hard to pinpoint later on) and since the debt was sold several times over to different collection agencies, we just sent them what they asked for, and got letters stating that the debt had been settled. My credit was not a worry for me, since it was already ruined a thousand times over. Paying these creditors was the goal, not because they were ever going to sue me, (because they had already given up on me), but because I literally couldn't sleep at night knowing I owed people money.
Now I am wondering if we did the right thing. Some of these things were bought or signed up for when I was in a state of psychotic mania. I couldn't even go back and dispute things that were bought or accounts that were opened because I knew that when I was manic. . . anything was possible! All in all it was less than $10,000.00 and I can definitely say we have learned some very hard lessons. Once our current debt is paid off, we will not incur any more, God willing.

Jenn, don't let this worry you. You did what you could when you could. If you learned your lessons, that is what is important. Bad things happen. They really do. I don't think badly of you for what you did. Now when someone just runs up debt and expects to constantly settle for less or just not pay, that I have a problem with. That is stealing to me. Sadly, I know many people who think it is a great way to live.
Put your cares and concerns in the Lord and give your heart to Him each day. That is all He really wants.
