Well, the first reviews I've seen haven't been that great. The worst, as I would expect, came from the sci-fi and fantasy fanboy site AintItCool.

We do not battle against flesh and blood! I agree that things are not always what they seem. I also agree that quite often things are exactly how they seem. Why is it that we are so frequently able to compromise on things that clearly reflect the opposite of God’s nature and goodness? The drive for instant gratification and entertainment and not wanting to ‘rock the boat’ and ‘keep the peace’ often overcomes our desire to seek after what is good and acceptable in the sight of God. Ephesians 6:11-12 (NKJ) 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the enemy 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:11 speaks about the ‘wiles’ of the enemy. Wiles or schemes, snares, deceptions, traps, etc. Satan will stop at nothing to suck us in, laying his traps along the way - especially through entertainment mediums, making inherently bad things seem acceptable, spinning them to look cool, feel good and appeal to all our earthly senses. Ephesians 6:12 speaks about our true fight being a spiritual fight against rulers of darkness (sounds much like a vampire to me!), against spiritual hosts of wickedness or unseen wickedness. Proverbs 14:27 The fear of the Lord is the fountain of life, to turn away the snares of death. The ever important fear of the Lord! Why is fear of the Lord important? Because it causes us to obey Him even when we don’t understand what’s going on around us. Have you ever leaned back towards your kids in the back seat of your car and sternly commanded them to “put on your seatbelts.” They may not feel loved at that time but it just may save their life! That is what God is telling us here with this Proverb: Obey Me, it will save your life by escaping Satan’s unseen traps (snares). Snares or unseen traps are Satan’s specialties. Music, movies, video games, the subtle words, making ‘dark’ things mainstream and increasing graphic violence continue to desensitize us and our children.

ORIGINAL: Protector_of_Man Isn't this vampire stuff symbology of satan? Yes. My wife and I had to get pentagram tattoos and listen to KISS songs backwards while burning black candles in order to get tickets. Anyway, I can't say I really enjoy the new turn vampire lore has taken with angst filled, emotionally confused, piano playing pretty boys who sparkle in the sunshine and never get split ends. I like my vampires the way they are supposed to be: mean, nasty, bloodthirsty predators of the night who think the best way to a girl's heart is through her esophagus. Real vampires like this: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm902535424/tt0120877 And this: http://blogs.nashvillescene.com/pitw/billnighy.jpg or this: http://www.filmofilia.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/underworld-poster.jpg And this: http://www.freemooviesonline.com/magazine/images/stories/cinema/characters/vampires/christopher-lee-dracula.jpg And of course this: http://paxarcana.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/nosferatu.jpg Soooo.... yes, I'm going to see the movie, but only because it was a condition of her seeing Zombieland with me on our anniversary... At least I will always have Zombieland.

Yes, you will have Zombieland, Manimal. That was a great movie. Another good one for Jesse Eisenberg. Now on to this one. Better than the last one, better than the book. Still horrible. It was filmed well, aside from the awful make-up on Mike and the inappropriately played Thom Yorke song while chasing Victoria. Note to Hollywood: Digital exposes every flaw in the make-up. So, turning a slightly chubby 20-something into Barry Manilow is not a good idea. This will be the very last time I go to a midnight showing of this junk. I cannot listen to these whiny teens talk about their emotions for two hours anymore. And Kristen Stewart's horrific acting. She acts with her hair, mumbles a few terrible lines, and looks glum through the entire thing. It's irritating. Worked for her in Adventureland, but this is not Adventureland.

everythingat: I agree with you that the movie was horrible, but better than Twilight!? I was actually pleasantly surprised with Twilight. New Moon should be nominated for most boring movie of 2009! I think it is EXTREMELY interesting that you commented on the make-up. There is one scene in which Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black, the werewolf) is dialoguing with the whiny Bella and you can see Lautner's stretch marks (on his pecs and shoulders) even through the make-up. These were from his grueling real-life workouts and super-fast muscle growth and I can't believe they made it into the film. And yes, Kristen Stewart is an AWFUL actress, and it make a person want to jump off of a cliff and into the sea to watch two hours of her ridiculous angst filled WHINING. Here, I will give you a synopsis: Bella: Whine whine whine, cry, whine! Edward: Angst angst constipation... angst! Bella: Whine fuss fuss wail whimper! Me: ZzzZZZZzzzzZZZ.... HUH? WHA? WEREWOLVES?!?! AWESOME! Bella: Whine whine whine cry... whine Edward: Angst angst angst.... BAD constipation! Me: ZzzzzZZzzzzz... HUH? WHA? ITALIAN VAMPIRE MAFIA?!? AWESOME! Bella: Mooooooooan grouse gripe.... angst! Edward: I don't want to live! Annnnnnngst! REALLY BAD constipation! Bella: Nooooo! Plaintive cry, sob wail whimper! Me: ZzzzzZZzzzz... *Roll Credits* There, now you don't have to waste $9 seeing New Moon. You're welcome.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but if I were Bella, I think I'd go for the werewolf myself. True, he does force a kiss on Bella in book 3, but between the two... the wolf actor is better looking anyways.

OK, DD#1 and I went today at lunch time. Despite the hour, the theater was 90% full, and there were two other showings going on at the same time. The theater parking lot was full as well, which is seldom the case at that time of day. So the movie is likely on target to have a major opening weekend. My take? I do think, this may have been the most difficult of the quartet to film. So much of the novel is inside Bella's head, and the place emotionally where Edward is at and where Bella is at through most of the film is pretty dismal. This was my least favorite of the novels, and it may end up being my least favorite of the films. It was far from the worst film I've seen, not even the worst film I've seen in the last few months. The big thing it was missing was the sense of wonder and sweetness of falling in love that the first film had. And there was nothing to replace that. Bella's overwhelming sense of loss comes across as numbness (not surprisingly). The anger problems a newly awakened werewolf goes through were more accentuated in the film than I remember in the book. Bella appears more physically attracted to Jacob than in the third book. Taylor Lautner's makeover is, well, extreme. The rest of the wolf pack comes across mainly goofy in human form. The cgi is serviceable but not groundbreaking. The Volturi were likely my biggest disappointment, they came across as more campy than threatening, except for the fight scene. What did I like? Jessica's one sided dialogue with Bella. Alice (I will always like Alice). Bella at the movies sitting between two would-be suitors. Edward's twist at the end, which comes earlier in the films than it does in the books, and caused gasps in the theater.

Maybe my political observations ARE just as apt, and it is YOUR conclusions that are wrong... mwahahah quote:
The movie wasn't terrible, it just seemed.... pointless? I never cared about any of the characters at all. -Dan. I actually liked Jacob and his grandpa. He made me want to go home and watch Rise of the Lycans or Brotherhood of the Wolf to cleanse my mind of angst-ridden teenagers and sparkling constipated vampires.
