Jesus said that no one is good except for God alone. The book of Philippians says that we have no righteousness of our own. In light of these two facts, does this mean that Christians are not good people? If you are a Christian and someone asked you, "Are you a good person?", how would you answer? If no one is good just like Jesus said, does this mean that bad people go to heaven?

No one is good. Christians are those that recognize that fact and accept that the only by God's grace can they get to heaven. Yes God thorough the atoning work of Christ made a way for sinners or bad people to go to heaven.

No. It is only when a bad person is clothed with the righteousness of Christ that they are good and will enter heaven. He made Him Who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. IICor 5:21 He is our goodness. It's all about Jesus. \o/

we are all sinners, but believers that are not in fellowship are capable of doing horrific things, and still be believers. Some believers are not tempted that way, so they appear to be "good". But in the end, believers are believers whether you do good or not.

Mother Teresa was asked how she could stand her mission in Calcutta with it's filth, despondency and lack of hope. She relied, 'Oh I couldn't stand it either but my Jesus can; I'm His voice of hope, love and charity. How could I be otherwise?' Are Christians good? In themselves; no but by virtue of His obedience, Victory and appropiation we become His voice of hope, love and charity in an otherwise desperate last resort.

I do not see any reference to being "clothed with righteousness". Rather we are to "become the righteiusness of God"! Sounds like God makes us good, not just covers us over with good... quote:
But in the end, believers are believers whether you do good or not. Nope, totally unbiblical! Jesus specifically said in Matt 7:16-23 - 16.By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17.Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18.A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19.Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20.Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. 21."Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22.Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23.Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' Pretty obvious to me, minimoe, that those who do no good are NOT Believers! quote:
Are Christians good? Absolutely! If we are Spirit-led and showing His fruit, we are good - Galatians 5:22-23.

After we accept Christ, although we may sin again, we are no longer sinners. "And the Lord said, 'This is good.'" We are a "new creation," the image and likeness of God in which we were created has been re-animated: one must think that this is good in us, as His child. Luke 6:45 and Mt12:35 read, "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart..." What does it mean to "mature" as Christians if not that righteousness grows within us? The "fruit of the spirit" develops within us: I assume that means there is good in us, and it is steadily getting "more gooderer." Col2:7: "...built up in him": that seems to we are growing in goodness. 1Pt2:5: "...you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood..." Acts11:24: "He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit..." Of course, none of this good is any good without God. "To will and to do" is only possible through the power of the Holy Spirit. And as far as drmark's comment about "those who do no good are not believers"--right on! "And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or know him...he who does what is right is righteous..he who does what is sinful is of the devil..." 1John3:5-8

Evil people do "good" deeds, maybe more than church folk. Evil give to the poor, love their family, exhibit empathy. So, what really is good ? ONLY God is good, not us ! No only do we need to define "good", but also CHRISTIAN !

Romans 7:18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature (flesh). Any true goodness you see in me is Christ, and Christ alone. quote:
ORIGINAL: cih92 If no one is good just like Jesus said, does this mean that bad people go to heaven? Not really. They get changed into good people through the shedding of perishable flesh where sin dwells... 1 Cor. 15:50-52 ...flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God (where sin dwells/ Rom. 7:18)), nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. Notice vs. 4...the perishable does not inherit the imperishable. No part of the perishable (where sin resides in the believer) enters eternity.

Romans 8 tells us that we have been conformed to the image of Christ. So is the image of Christ bad. or not good?
