Psalms 30:11-12 “You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.” Psalm 91: 1-2 "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord: He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in Whom I trust." 2 Corinthians 4:18 “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 1 Corinthians 9:23 “Now this I do for the gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.” Dwell only on the good God has done in your life! † † † Well our sunshine only lasted one day! Drat! Yesterday was chilly but the sky was so blue. Today it’s gray and a misty rain. I kept the car, both days, and really only ran errands. I like having the car in case I feel the need to get out! Once it clears up, I’ll walk each day. I had some errands to run, so went to the Post Office and mailed off Bibles to the granddaughters and Easter books to our grandson, plus a packet of sports ‘dolls’ to color on rainy days. I also went to the dry cleaners and took Nick for a hair cut. I ran into an older couple at Wal-Mart. I love them to death, but the hubby is a bit negative about my cancer. He seems to think cancer is a death sentence and his questions have upset me several times. Today I just praised the Lord and explained that the surgeon got all the cancer that was found and we’re just cleaning up any cells that might have gotten out. I expect to be 100% healed. I also ran into 6 other people from church. School is on spring break and with this icky weather, there’s not much else to do. Ouch! I post on a colon cancer support website where most are openly Christian. A couple of non believers are insulted by the capitalization of HIM, HE when speaking of God and our ‘God bless’ and ‘praying for you’ replies to others. One lady responded with a very ugly post about my beliefs versus trusting science and technology and, another implied ‘if there was a God, why do YOU have cancer instead of war mongers…..’ I apologized but had to say that ‘this is who/ what I am’ and I would be dishonest or fake to not speak as I do. I think I’ll be more of a silent prayer partner there or avoid it altogether. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18 I got a lot of laundry done today and cleaned out the fridge. I still have some clothes to fold before picking up Jim from baseball. He should be out by 4:00 today because of the rain. That means a nice, early supper! Jim’s college courses start again tomorrow. He has three math courses to take this term. Since Math is his major, WGU won’t transfer any of his University Math courses. Any major courses must be repeated or completed at their school. He’s very good with math, so that really isn’t a problem, other than the time it takes. Next week is Jim’s spring break! I hope the weather is nice and I am praying I don’t react to my chemo that week so we can enjoy Easter as a family. I’ll prepare before Wednesday in case Jim has to do the cooking. We woke at 1:30 because it sounded like golf balls hitting the side of the house. Hail storm! The rain was the worst I’ve ever seen. A few hours later, I woke again to the sound of thunder and lightning cracks. It’s still raining. So, when did the no call list expire? Can someone tell me? I’m being inundated with phone calls every day trying to convince me to donate to every organization imaginable. I always explain to them that, not only are we quite poor, but I have co pays and deductibles to pay every other week. They get off the phone pretty quickly once I do that. These calls are such a waste of time. I have Caller ID but it doesn’t help since they come through as an area instead of organization. Jim and I have a ‘viewing’ to attend tonight. The father of one of his baseball players had a heart attack a few days ago and died yesterday. The funeral is during school tomorrow and Jim will teach class and let some teachers attend the funeral since they’ve known the boy for several years. The dad was much older. Actually, he was 2 years older than Jim. Anyhow, baseball practice is cancelled for today so we’ll go to the viewing as soon as Jim gets home today. Home from the funeral home. We had left-overs for supper tonight. Yum! After supper, we went to Hobby Lobby, Big Lots and Radio Shack to pick up some things we needed. Nick kills our portable phone batteries (2 phones) talking to his friends so we got him a corded phone and had to run a line to his room. That’s all done, too! Bad weather is moving in again. Possible tornadoes too. Only one more day til spring break so I hope this quickly passes so we can be out and about before I have chemo next week. Actually, I’m praying I don’t have any side effects from chemo and can really enjoy Jim’s time off and Easter. 2 Corinthians 1:20 For all of God's promises have been fulfilled in him. That is why we say "Amen" when we give glory to God through Christ. Philippians 4:8 “Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.” Titus 2:11-13 "And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed." Romans 8:5-6 Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. Everything is in bloom and our pollen count is over 1,000 today! 121 is extremely high. I’ll be wiping up yellow dust for a month from it coming in through our open windows. No matter! It’s part of God’s plan to keep things growing and beautiful. Such beauty! Jim is on Spring Break! He got home about 3:20 and we began our ‘vacation’ by going for a walk at the mall. Twice around the top level and once around the bottom. I am not sure the distance. I’d ‘clocked’ it last year with my pedometer, but that was a $2.00 unit that worked about half the time. So, tonight’s plan is for Jim to watch the Cubs and Yankees at 7:00. I have one load of clothes to fold but nothing else planned. I think I’ll cut out some felt dolls and animals so as not to waste the time. I don’t care for sports. For supper we cheated. We had some Perdue Chicken nuggets made from breast meat and fully cooked. I just heated them in the oven and cooked some Pork and Beans for Jim and okra for me and Nick. I’d had a huge green salad for lunch with lettuces, tomato, cucumber, black and green olives, shredded low fat cheese and oil and vinegar. I’m doing my best to eat healthy, get exercise, take vitamins and get a tiny amount of sun each day. Speaking of sun, boy I’m going to miss my days on the deck reading a book or doing a crossword puzzle/ word find. Not this summer! That’s not possible with chemo. No matter! There’s always next year and many years to come! I have four more days til chemo. I hope I can think of lots of interesting things to do these next four days. I think we’ll go for a walk at Sweetwater Park this weekend. We’ve never gone there but Jon and Mary said it’s quite pretty with waterfalls. Maybe that’s something to do on Saturday. It’s supposed to be warm and pleasant out. I know Jim will be doing some college work the next week, too. That’ll be the time I’ll do some housework or prep our meals. I’ve already planned some nice meals for us. We like to eat a bit earlier and baseball practice can push supper to after 7:00 some nights. Nick said one of our granddaughters called while we were out. She and her sister had gotten their Easter presents today. Wow, that was fast! I sent them media mail. Well, I had some strawberries and blueberries for dessert and am ready to cut out some dolls. I hope you have a nice weekend. Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Ephesians 3:19-20 "May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope." Tho we struggle, Jehovah is STILL God! Philippians 4:12-13 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need. ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ Day 1 of Spring Break! I woke promptly at 7:00. Now why did I do that? I stayed in bed til 7:15 and then got up and made coffee. Jim got up about an hour later and we had grits, eggs and he had French toast. Scooter had some of everything. ;o) Jim and I decided to take a walk at Sweetwater State Park. Jon and Mary had told us about the beautiful trails. Well, we chose the ½ mile, red trail, thinking that would be enough. I wore a jacket to cover me in the sun (forgot about my ears, scalp and hands tho) and off we went. About 30 minutes into the HIKE up steep rocks, etc, our trail offered us blue or white! There was no more red trail. We asked two couples coming from that direction and they told us it was quite a walk but the way out. We ended up doing the blue trail as well as the red for a total of about four miles. YIKES! I was very concerned about being in partial sun, but so far, it seems nothing got burned except MAYBE my scalp at the part in my hair. Chemo makes you much more sensitive to the sun. I had to take off the jacket several times because it was just way too hot. We were supposed to hit 72° today but it was almost 80° when we were leaving the park. Thank the Lord for the partial shade! I am tired! It’s a good tired, tho. I’m quite impressed that I was able to complete the hike. It was very hard, at times. My legs began to feel like rubber after a few rock climbs, but once we leveled off, I was fine. It was very lovely and there were so many people walking! I had a nice dessert of banana, strawberries, blueberries and angel food cake. That is so yummy and so very good for me. Mmmmmmm…. Well, I hope you had a nice weekend and didn’t get lost in a state park, like me. Still no sunburn so all is well. Jim got up well before me and started a project on his computer. About five hours later, I asked him to take me to run an Easter errand at the mall. We shared a sandwich there and once we were home, he went right back downstairs. I didn’t sleep five hours! I just left him alone for five hours! I made the guys favorite meal for supper. We call it Taco Chicken. It’s quite easy and there’s no clean up. Get a piece of aluminum foil for each piece of chicken. The first layer is a sliced up new potato. Second layer is a boneless chicken breast. I season the top of the chicken with some Lawry’s Seasonings. Top that with either Salsa or Picante sauce. The final layer is shredded cheese. We use the low fat Mexican cheese. Close the foil into a pack / envelope and then cook at 400° for 40 minutes. Be careful of the steam when you open the packs! Delicious! Tonight is baseball. First game of the season. That means no TV. for me unless I want to go into our bedroom and watch a movie. I could also watch one in the rec room but I have never liked that room. It’s in our basement. There are several windows, but it still feels too closed in for me. Jim loves it. He has his computer and school desk in the rec room and he has a music room in the second room down there. Both rooms have a sofa and his music room has our 3rd computer and a recliner as well as a sofa. He’s got it all decorated with sports stuff. Man cave! My craft items and sewing machine are in the main area of the rec room. We have a chance of snow on Monday. Can you believe it? It was almost 80° on Saturday and will be below freezing for the next few nights. Today was very stormy for a while, too. My mother is planning on coming here for Easter. She changes her mind pretty often, but was packing today. She would come here, stay a week and then go for a dental appointment the next week. Oh, I hope chemo doesn’t wipe me out so we can enjoy her visit! I’m planning on only good reactions! I’m going to clean out the fridge and do my grocery shopping on Tuesday. I want to go ahead and get everything we’ll need for Easter. I’m going to make a turkey. Several in our family don’t really care for ham and it’s not allowed on my healthy diet except for rare occasions. I sure don’t want a bunch of left-over ham to go to ruin. Everyone loves turkey! My dog can tell time AND read. Every weekend, if we’re not up by 7:00, he comes to our door and whines ever so quietly. Just enough to wake me. If we get up, he goes back to the sofa and goes right back to sleep! If we don’t get up, he’ll whine, ever so quietly, every few minutes, like a snooze alarm! Scooter licks the pad of his foot sometimes after he’s stepped on a rock or maybe has a bug bite. To get him to stop, I show him a tube of Zilactin-B. I put it on a hot spot last summer and he hated the smell. Now he only has to see the word and he’ll stop immediately! He can read, I tell ‘ya! Well, I’m bored and don’t have anything fun to do. I don’t want to do housework at 7:30 on a Sunday night. The kitchen is already cleaned. No wash that needs doing. Guess I’ll just cuddle with my huge dog and watch my guys watch sports. Do you see the beauty in the photo below? Acts 16: 22 -34 A mob quickly formed against Paul and Silas, and the city officials ordered them stripped and beaten with wooden rods. They were severely beaten, and then they were thrown into prison. The jailer was ordered to make sure they didn't escape. So he took no chances but put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks. Around midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a great earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off! The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself. But Paul shouted to him, "Don't do it! We are all here!" Trembling with fear, the jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down before Paul and Silas. He brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" They replied, "Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with your entire household." Then they shared the word of the Lord with him and all who lived in his household. That same hour the jailer washed their wounds, and he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized. Then he brought them into his house and set a meal before them. He and his entire household rejoiced because they all believed in God. Romans 5:20-21 God's law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God's wonderful kindness became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God's wonderful kindness rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. † † † What a bummer! Our 3rd day of Spring Break and a hotel in Italy sent us a fax at 5:00 and 5:14. The ringing phone woke the whole family. Jim and Nick got back to sleep, but not me. It was a confirmation letter for 11 nights at a hotel in Lake Maggiore for the ladies traveling in August. Today's Pollen Count is 3583. A count of 121 is extremely high. No wonder my eyes are watering! I guess it’s these high winds! Shucks, we’re expecting snow showers tonight. April in Atlanta! Boy was it cold today. Our wind chill stayed around freezing most of the day. We’d already packed away our warm clothing. Thankfully, I have some cotton sweaters that I had left in an extra drawer. Jim always has a couple of sweatshirts so we managed. There’s a chance of snow showers tonight. Ah, Spring! Nick really wanted a breakfast for supper so Jim made bacon, pancakes, eggs and grits. Of course, I didn’t eat the pancakes. I do not like ‘heavy’ foods and pancakes are a ‘no no’ on my healthy diet. I haven’t been out walking today. Jim’s watching baseball so I don’t know if we’ll even make it to Wal-Mart for a walk. Tomorrow is my blood tests for liver enzymes so we have to be in Douglasville at 10:15. We’ll go to the mall right after that and do a couple of miles. I sure hope treatment number 4, on Wednesday, goes as well as number 3 did. It was a real blessing to not feel tired! My energy level is great! I think the weight loss and healthy diet are the cause. I’ve tried cutting out some dolls from memory and even did a search and found some patterns on the internet. They’re not right. The legs and arms are too fat and are not aimed right. Maybe I can find an ‘Old Woman in the Shoe’ pattern in a McCall’s book. I can’t believe I got rid of the pattern. It would only be 30 years old. (Boy am I old!) Today I vacuumed most of the house. I still haven’t done the living room because I want to dust the books on the bookshelves first. I also want to vacuum the furniture in there. I’ll do that tomorrow. I did several loads of laundry and the floors in the two baths. I scrubbed a rubber floor mat, too. Jim did the stairs and rec room floor for me. He’s such a great helper without being asked! Nick cleaned his room, without being asked. I want to have everything done before Wednesday just in case the treatment makes me tired or weak. Better prepared! After walking tomorrow, we need to stop by the grocery store. I’d love to find some scallops. Publix had some last week but they didn’t look fresh. I’d also like to get some Cod (Scrod). Fish is always allowed on my Mediterranean Diet. As long as it’s not fried! Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty." John 6:35 Today, my mother is not sure she’ll be coming for Easter. She changes her mind quite often. I hope she’ll come. She seems to really enjoy our family gatherings. She eats very well when she’s here, too. I know I certainly have enjoyed her company. Well, I think the last load of clothes are dry. My dryer takes 3 times to dry a load of clothes. I am thankful I have any dryer. I hope you’re keeping warm and dry. Spring is around the corner and all things will be made new. Our perfect God cannot tolerate anything less than perfection. Even as Christians, we sin daily in thought or deed. Without Jesus’ sacrifice at Calvary, as the sinless, spotless, sacrificial lamb, we would all be doomed to hell. Because of that blood sacrifice, we can face our future knowing our debt has been paid! I am a lowly sinner, saved by Grace! Thank you Jesus for paying the price for my sins. He is risen! One more day til chemo. Boy the time seems to go so quickly. I hope the next 12 weeks go quickly so I can get this done! I woke before the clock went off. I seem to have an internal clock. I don’t like being awakened by alarms so I’ll wake just minutes before it would go off. It was snowing when we left for my lab work. The flakes were so tiny that they looked like powdered sugar on the road. It’s still quite cold, too. The lab work took only minutes so we went over to the mall and walked two miles before coming home and having lunch. I had finished up all the black olives and cucumbers so my salad was a bit naked today. It was still very good, tho. Spring returns tomorrow afternoon. Warm temps move back in but we’ll see more rain later in the week. The pollen is a killer! It’s over 3,500 today! My eyes are watering horribly and everyone is sneezing. My windowsills are coated with a fine yellow dust from the pine trees. I can wipe it up and it’s back within hours, even with the windows closed. I think these cheap builder grade windows are worthless. Well, after supper we got our grocery shopping done and everything scanned and put away. I forgot Whole Wheat English Muffins and Pam but I don’t have to have those tonight. We’ve had computer / internet problems all day. AT&T has no idea what’s going on. It’s affecting all three of our computers and Nick’s PS3 online mode. I’ve tested, scanned, defragged and done a full system virus scan on my computer. The Dell is on a wireless router and it won’t work either. We stay connected for less than 3 minutes. Hmmmm ** Almost 18 hours with little or no internet. I spent over 2 hours on the phone with a girl at AT&T. She kept blaming our 3 computers, phone lines, etc., but finally, at about 10:00 at night, she was told there was an outage in our area. No kidding. Wednesday: I’m home from chemo. Four down and 8 to go! 1/3 completed! Two months down, four months to go. I was the last taken back so am the last hooked up and last to finish. That put me at 2:00 leaving the doctor’s office. Makes for a long day. My CBC was perfect again and my liver enzymes were only one point above ‘normal’. Of course, that was yesterday and I had a minor gall bladder attack early this morning. I’d eaten some pork that was fatty. I am going to be much more careful choosing meats! We know I have to get my gall bladder removed. We’re just trying to hold off until August! The lady who is at chemo with me that I’d asked prayer for was quite chatty today. I thought she was about 70 but she’s almost 5 years younger than me. I was quite shocked. Hope it didn’t show on my face. I wouldn’t want to hurt her feelings. Her colon cancer had spread to a number of other organs and she had major surgeries. Poor gal. There was one other lady who slept the whole time and two women came in for shots of some sort. Both were very negative and looked so very sad. I don’t know them but wished them Happy Easter and God Bless. Big smile. Scott called today. He’s our oldest. They were chosen to adopt a ‘bait dog’ used for dog fights outside D.C. The dog may still lose one leg. They are doing ‘play dates’ right now while the dog stays with a doctor and his family so the bandages and daily treatments can be more easily done. Seems like a very sweet dog but the rescue group will have a trainer work with the dog and Scott’s family to make sure the dog adapts well to real life outside a pen. How can people DO this stuff to animals? I had to force myself to watch the YOUTUBE video of the dog’s treatments and that’s not from when he was first rescued. Horrible…. Horrible wounds. We ate a very late lunch because of chemo so will eat something really light for supper. I’m a bit sleepy but am not going to give in until bedtime! Need to walk and drink to help flush the chemo out as it has done its’ job. Hope you have a lovely evening. He has risen, just as He said. For he who finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD.” I’m still feeling quite fine after chemo other than a teeny tummy sensation and my arms felt a little tired in the middle of the day. What a blessing! Jim and I were up early. I had not slept much last night because of the steroids. I can take an anti-nausea medicine to help with that but since I’m not sick to my tummy, I don’t think I should take unnecessary medications. I’ve avoided medications my whole life. After some chores, we went over to the mall and walked the lower and upper levels one lap each, plus in and out of a few stores. I didn’t want to over-do it since I still have chemo strapped on my side. I get lots of stares. The older people look at me with ‘knowing eyes’ while the younger seem to stare, wondering what the beeping pack might be. It’s heavy and I’m always so thrilled to get it off. Friday at noon! We stopped at Publix on our way home, wanting some Cod and maybe some scallops. They had no fresh cod and they only had large scallops at almost $14.00 a pound. We decided against fish today. I’ve never cooked Tilapia and it would have to be baked. I assume it would work in the same recipes as Cod (Scrod), I’m a bit excited about watching ‘Harper’s Island’ tonight. I’m hoping it’s as good as it sounds. I enjoy Agatha Christie type mysteries and am expecting this one to trick and confuse us til the end. We’ll see. It’s on at 10:00 and I’m already a bit sleepy, but I did take a short nap this afternoon. We got the cell phone today. The Fed-Ex guy had delivered it way down the street two days ago. Erin called to find out where it was and he realized his error. The family walked it down to us tonight. They live far enough down that we had never met them. Hebrews 22-23 "Let us draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He Who promised is faithful." Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Good Friday! Easter came a little later than usual three years ago. I remember that Good Friday like it was yesterday. I talked with my only sibling, my brother Michael, four times that day. Only a few days later, he was dead after being struck by a drugged up young man leaving a bar, falling backwards and striking his head on a cement picnic table. Michael was a bit younger than me and had lived a hard, hard life. While I turned to Jesus as a young child, Michael turned to alcohol and the streets in his teens. I still miss him and do believe, tho he was so very troubled, that he had found Jesus at some point in his life. I hope so. Another Good Friday, two years ago, and I met my Burger King angel. Someday I’ll write that encounter down. I’ve shared my story with a few believers in the last two years, but someday I’ll write it down and share it with others. I slept well last night. I did wake for a short time around 5:00 but got back to sleep and slept until 8:30. My fanny pack of chemo was empty a little after 11:30 so we headed over to Douglasville for me to be disconnected. We arrived about 15 minutes early for my appointment and as we approached the building, we saw a couple from our church who needed help getting the husband into his wheel chair. God had that all planned out. Jim was able to help the family and we rode up the elevator together. As sick as the husband is, he still expressed such concern for me. I took a nap late this afternoon and am still sleepy. I think I’ll be in bed earlier tonight. I made myself wake from my nap so I could cook supper. I’m hoping supper will be fully cooked. My stove is acting up again. My dryer takes three cycles to dry. One agitator in my wash doesn’t turn and my refrigerator makes a huge ‘ka-thunk’ when the compressor shuts off. The washer, dryer and fridge are 13 years old. The stove is 10 years old but has broken three times previously. The part is quite expensive. I finally just turned off my weather radio. It was going off constantly because of tornado warnings. Ah, spring in Georgia. The thunder is rolling and we’re expecting high winds and golf ball sized hail. I hope the flu and strep are out of our area so I can go to church on Sunday. The CDC had implied they are ‘dying down’ but then I hear of several at church who have whole families sick or getting sick. I’ll decide tomorrow morning. Hope you have a lovely evening. Keep safe! Shut up and go away! So, I woke to major winds today! I’m quite surprised we don’t have more limbs down in our yard. There’s one large one out back. I can’t do yard work so will have to get one of my boys to throw it over the fence for me. When we put in our fence, we chose not to cut down trees. My yard is pie shaped on one side and that line went right through some great trees. We chose to do a straight fence instead. When our neighbor moved in, they chose to only enclose a small portion of their backyard, leaving a large area between our two fences. We’re both throw our clippings and downed limbs into that area. It maintained that rustic look as well as giving us an eco friendly way to dispose of such things. I did some research on hotels in New York for a nurse and her friend for late this month. I’m hoping they book off my website. I have so many bills from co-pays and deductibles from my surgeries. OUCH. I’m getting bills from all sorts of people I didn’t even know were involved in my treatments. I sure wish the economy hadn’t bottomed out so I could be earning enough to pay these bills! I’ve considered standing by the exit ramps at I-20 with a ‘Will work for doctor bills’ sign. LOL My mother has put off her visit, again. Her dentist isn’t ready for her so she’s going to wait until then. She sees a specialist in Birmingham. I’d thought she’d be here this Thursday and would stay through my next chemo but, alas, no. Speaking of chemo, I don’t understand how such things work, but I tend to get tired or feel wobbly about 3 days after my treatment and that lasts for about 3 or 4 days. After that, I feel great for a full week before it starts all over again. Eight more treatments! In HIS name, please pray for my healing. Jim has baseball games three days this week. They have had so many rain-outs. Play-offs are next week, I think. He has to help with Sports Physicals next week, too. I’m hoping to go with him to at least one of the games. I’m so frustrated today. Our insurance company, United Health Care, over paid the hospital my $400.00 deductible, which I had paid before my first surgery. Now they charged me the $400.00 deductible toward the surgeon’s bill on my surgery to install my chemo port. The hospital doesn’t show that $400.00 extra being paid and the surgeon and a bunch of other doctors, want their money. My head is pounding! No amount of ‘I have my receipt’ will satisfy. Blood out of a turnip. Maybe it’s time to get a piece of cardboard and head to I-20. We made turkey for Easter so I’ve got that left-over for tonight. Glad I don’t have to cook. He rides across the heavens to help you, across the skies in majestic splendor. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ More rain! We woke about 3:30 to thunder and the sound of rain bouncing off the gutters. I’d heard a gentle rain a bit earlier but it was peaceful. The sun finally came out around 3:30 but we still have a lot of clouds in the sky and pretty gusty winds. Ah, spring! Jim’s team can’t play baseball today because the fields are way too wet. Right now, it looks like they’ll play Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with play-offs next week. He really enjoys it but I think he’s ready for the season to end so he can get home early and work on his college work. I had a new friend come over today. She’s starting a new business and needs some secretarial type work done. She cannot pay for a month or so, but I figured even a few dollars would help with my co-pays! Nick likes okra. Jim will eat it fried but won’t even taste it when it’s boiled. My motto is ‘the slimier the better’. This is my ‘off’ week and I feel really good. Every day, I feel even better. I do have a teeny headache, but my sinuses are quite clogged from this bothersome pollen! My deck is yellow! My porch is yellow! All the cars are yellow. I’m determined to go for a walk tonight. I sure hope Jim is up to it. He walks most of the day and then gets quite a work-out during baseball practice, but sitting around drives me batty! ** Jim came in and we ate and then headed out to Wal-Mart to walk. There wasn’t a lot of customers so we were able to walk pretty fast and make many laps around the store, down the larger aisles and back. I guess we walked about an hour. On our way out, we ran into a friend and her almost 6 year old. That was a nice surprise. I am thrilled with how GOOD I feel! I’m going to keep the car tomorrow so I can go to Jim’s baseball game. Because the new school field is so wet, the team got permission to play at the Bremen Rec Center. That’s a real blessing! They’ll also play two more days this week. One is quite a drive but the other is right near our house. It’s supposed to be lovely out, so I’m looking forward to the outing and visiting with some of the other teachers. I got sick with a gall bladder attack Tuesday night about 10:45. I walked, tried different positions and finally woke Jim at 2:00. He took me to the ER and they did loads of blood work plus an ultrasound that showed 'numerous' gall stones, but no blockage. They gave me pain killer IV and sent me home. I had natural childbirth with all our kids and have a very high tolerance for pain. Believe me, I was in pain! By time I got home, the pain was just starting to come back. I went to bed and slept from 5:00 a.m. til 7:00 when I woke in a full attack. Jim called the emergency number for my surgeon's group. My surgeon is on vacation but his partner called for a Direct Admit for surgery. I got to the hospital and they had no beds but doctor assured them I most probably wouldn't be admitted and if he DID need to admit me, they'd find a bed somewhere. They got me all readied up and I was in surgery by 11:00 and on my way home by 3:00. I have three small incisions and one that is a bit bigger. Dr. was concerned I might have a stone stuck in my ducts, so they did X-Ray's during surgery on those areas to make sure nothing was there. All was well. Doctor gave us four color pictures of my gall bladder and liver. He said my gall bladder was huge and filled with stones. Dr. said my liver looked really good! So, I have anesthesia induced amnesia and do not remember much of anything from yesterday. I remember them moving me from the pre-op bed to the table in the O.R. and stretching out my arms on some cold slabs. After that, the next thing I remember is waking up from a nap at suppertime, at HOME. I don’t remember waking up at the hospital or getting dressed, checking out, coming home, etc. I do remember when the nurse made me stand up after taking me back to the pre-op area to dress that I peed all over my socks. She told Jim it was because I’d not slept any the night before and the anesthesia had REALLY put me under. I was so out of it that I didn’t even care! Not that’s not me at all! LOLOL I’m not in pain but I am sore! Here goes another month of no lifting, reaching over my head, bending to pick anything up, etc. Other than that, I can walk and drive. I’m also supposed to be able to have chemo next Wednesday. I hope that’ll be okay. I already won’t finish until July 29th! I’ll allow my oncologist to decide for me. I’d rather do what is best for my body than rush things just to be finished a week or so sooner. My throat is sore, but the anesthetist said he would insert an airway and I might have a sore throat and scratched up back of my mouth for a few days. I’m planning on Jim picking me up today around 3:15 to take me with him to a baseball game right here in town. It’s VS the school that many of our church kids attend. He’s put me a canvas chair in the car and we’d bought me a straw hat earlier this week. It’s supposed to be warm, but I’ll take a jacket just in case. The games are only 7 innings so it won’t last long. I want to get out of the house and keep active. It’’s hard not being able to do things. I’ve about worn Nick out today. Load this, empty that, pick up this thing I dropped….. He hasn’t complained. He was up before ME at 7:00. He made me some toast and tea so I got up tho I’d planned on going back to sleep. He fell asleep on the sofa with the dog this afternoon for a nap. I need to eat something and get ready for Jim to pick me up. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ This turned out to be a lovely Saturday. A bit chilly at times, but I enjoyed the day. We had a nice ‘Cracker Barrel breakfast’ today. Grits, eggs, bacon and toast, coffee and orange juice, too. It sure was good! Jim is a good ‘breakfast’ cook. Jim and Nick filled some of my birdfeeders. I only had enough seed for three of them. Nick put corn in the squirrel feeder, too. He picked up sticks and got them over the fence. We need to wash out our birdbaths. One has a lot of leaves in it and it’s moldy looking. We replaced the tablecloth on our patio table. Jim has to be home for that because he lifts the umbrella for me to get the old one off and the new one on. The umbrella fits through a hole in the center. That’s all done. There’s still loads to get done. The deck is yellow with pollen and the chairs and rocker need a good scrubbing. We went for a walk at the Arbor Place Mall. We easily did 2 ½ miles before heading to the fabric store. I found a lovely blue and cream stripped canvas for my swing seat. I’ll make that while supper cooks and we can put it on early next week since it’s supposed to rain tomorrow. I also found an odd colored thread I really needed for a minor repair to one of my favorite tops. I made us huge green salads for lunch. For supper, we’re having a new recipe I found in a Kraft magazine I get monthly (for free). It’s cooked in a foil pouch. Brown rice on the bottom, boneless chicken breast, strips of peppers or other veggies, salsa and Mexican cheese on top. It sounds so good! I cannot wait to taste it! I took off my bandages late Friday. Three of the spots are so tiny they don’t even have a stitch. The one right below my naval is smaller than I expected but I have a huge bruise on my tummy just below it. I’m sore, but not in pain. I do get a bit of a gas sensation once in a while from where the surgeon filled my abdomen with gas so he could ‘see’ to do the surgery, but he did a good job getting most of it out. I’m not in pain like many women had warned me. We won’t be going to church again tomorrow. Strep is back in our congregation. Some kids who had gotten ill a few weeks ago with strep are ill again. My oncologist had said I should not go to hospitals, nursing homes, church or crowded areas for the full six months of chemo. Jim’s going to Emory tomorrow night for a free concert. He tries to go every few months. This one should be very nice. It’s at 8:00 at night and I’m sure will be a packed house. I assured him I don’t mind him leaving me behind. Nick will be home and I can always watch a movie or even go to bed early, if I so choose. After a yummy supper, Jim and I cleaned the kitchen and went out for another walk. This time we went to Gold Dust Park and walked about 1 ¼ mile before I cried uncle. We stopped by Dollar Tree on the way home and got a CD of the New Testament. I had a Cardinal and a Blue Grosbeak at the feeders just before supper. Both were male. I hope they’re building a nest in my yard. Actually, a Cardinal will build numerous nests, laying eggs in each one and then will only tend ONE nest, leaving the other eggs to rot. It’s hard to believe it’s the same male bird, but how else can I explain this exact behavior from the exact species, timing, etc. Later, this morning, a female Cardinal began trying to fly through or into the glass that surrounds my front door. I don’t know if she sees her reflection or if she sees the colorings and floral paintings on the foyer wall. I was afraid she’d hurt herself so I hung a piece of blue plastic from the newspaper right where she was striking the glass and she stopped. It always takes us by surprise when our bird friends do such things, but we get used to it after a few days. Tap. Tap, tap, tap. Tap. A very tiny bird taps on our mailbox down by the street much of the day. It’s painted white, so there is no reflection. Such odd behaviors. We had horrible storms much of the night. I woke many times before 2:00 to crashes of lightning and rolling thunder. Storms don’t scare me, but they can wake me if they’re loud enough. I’d take the time to pray for others and myself, each time I woke. I’d fall back asleep, praying. I had planned to call my oncologist to ask if he wanted me to push my chemo out by one week because of my gall bladder surgery but, instead, I waited and they called to remind me of my blood tests tomorrow. As much as I’d love to skip a week so I could have a true ‘feel good’ week, I’ll yield to doctor and go ahead and get this over with! Do pray that the surgery didn’t wear me down enough that the chemo affects me more than usual. Thanks! Wednesday: I went over for blood work today and the receptionist said they should have called, so sorry…. I’ll see the doctor tomorrow, have my lab work done then and we’ll discuss when I’ll restart chemo. Psalms 61:2 “From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Jim has a championship play-off game today for his middle school baseball team. I’m going to go watch it. The weather is lovely but we’re supposed to get some really high winds by late afternoon. I hope it isn’t too bad. ** The game was really good. Jim’s team won 10-0 in four innings. When a team leads by 10 -0, a game is automatically called. It was cold but I took a heavy coat! We grabbed burgers on the way home. I have to keep the car tomorrow for my doctor’s appointment so I have to be up and showered before 7:00 a.m. No big deal, I guess. My mother called this afternoon. Her dental piece is ‘in’ and the dentist needs to see her this Thursday. She’ll come here after the dentist for a week before heading back to Birmingham. She’ll take me to chemo next Wednesday, too. Doctor said I need to have time off from chemo so the cells that heal are healthy enough to do their job. My next chemo will be May 6th. All in all, all is well! I woke at 5:45 because of the loud music. What loud music? Well, I was singing ‘Sanctuary’ in my dreams and it was quite loud! I’ve done this many times over the years. I wake to the lovely music of huge choirs singing great hymns or songs of faith. In my dreams, my voice blends with these choirs. I like to think I’m singing with the heavenly choir, just a bit early. I got up at 5:45 and made myself some breakfast. I’d gone to bed before 9:00 and fell right to sleep. That was 9 hours of great rest. I do find I’m sleepy since starting chemo. Not tired. Sleepy. Jim stayed in bed until almost 7:00. I got my housework done before Nick even woke up. He did the two flights of stairs for me. He’s a big help! He helped Jim put the new seat on the swing last night. It’s a two man job. My mother is coming today. She should be here any time now. She’ll stay until next Thursday morning, unless something has changed with her dentist. I’m looking forward to her company. We have a good time together. Perfect timing too! It’s over 80° here today! I’m so glad! I have our windows open and ceiling fans going. Lovely weather. It’s to remain warm, too! Jim’s middle school team has a game this afternoon. I won’t be able to go unless my mother gets here and wants to go watch. If they win, they’ll play the champion of the other division on Saturday. We do expect them to easily win today, but sometimes when a team assumes they’ll win, they don’t play well. Sloppy. Hope they win! We have our annual city wide yard sale this Saturday. I think it’s part of the 100 mile yard sale. I chaired and ran a strip mall section of it for our Youth a few years ago and it was fun, but no can do this year. We made about $500 for the youth that year. I’ve never gone to the yard sales, tho. I sure will this year! Mother loves stuff like that and so do I. We can work around any baseball game and go before the sun is too bright. I don’t need anything from a yard sale, but it’s fun to ‘shop’ anyhow. Have a great evening and stay well! My Mom woke early, too, and Jim made us all a wonderful breakfast. YUM! Nick had a friend spend the night last night. They didn’t make a peep after we went to bed! Nick went home with his friend to spend the night there and won’t be home til Sunday afternoon. The Dad is a Deputy Sheriff and I told Jim the neighbors are probably wondering why Nick and another kid got picked up by a Sheriff today. Today was the Annual Hwy 78 Yard Sale which went from Villa Rica almost to the Alabama line. I stayed in the car much of the time but would get out when there was shade or when I saw something I had to check out. I wore my straw hat and had a golf umbrella. I still had a lot of fun! Jim teased me. I’d stand under a Weeping Willow, umbrella and hat, sipping tea. Southern Belle, he'd say. I found a wonderful two seat, high back bench for my kitchen table! I’ve wanted a bench for a long time but haven’t seen any the right size, style or price. This one needs sanding and painting, because it’s dark, but it is the perfect size and style. I gave the woman $30.00 for it. Jim found a computer desk and small table for school. My mother saw six chairs that came with a round table, but she only wanted the chairs and the woman wouldn’t sell her just those. We ate lunch at Bilbo’s BBQ in Bremen and enjoyed that. It’s way too greasy so I won’t do that but once a year or so. I love onion rings and they have a good but greasy blooming onion. I’m sure they wonder how I can be a GRIT and not like greasy fried food. (Girl Raised In The South) It was pretty warm today! We had a high of 87°. It still gets into the low 60’s during the night, tho, so much of the day is very pleasant. It’ll cool back down for a while soon. A little, anyhow. I love spring and summer. It really bugs me that I can’t be out in the sun or work in the dirt. Next Year! Last night we watched ‘The Boy in the Striped Pajamas’ with my mother. She watched ‘Evening’ after we went to bed and ‘Pay it Forward’ this afternoon while I napped. We’d watched ‘Doubt’ the first night she was here. I’ve watched ‘Doubt’ three times now and see more ‘hints’ each time I watched it. Mother will be here until very early Monday morning. She has an appointment for her yearly mammogram at Emory that morning and then will go to her vacation cabin. She’ll stay there for a week or two until she can see her dentist in Birmingham again. We haven’t done as much this visit. The heat really bothers her. Mother wants to make covers for the back of her dining room chairs at her cabin. She doesn’t have the measurements, but I’ve told her we should just go ahead and buy the fabric she’s found while it’s half priced and I’ll make them for her as soon as she calls with the measurements. We have a rough estimate of the size. The fabric is very expensive, so half price is a real help. Jim and I got inexpensive tennis rackets. I haven’t played tennis in many years. I played squash with him back when we were first married. Our intent is to start off slow and build up to a real game. We have two nice courts at Gold Dust Park and there’s almost never anyone playing there! That’s where we go to walk. It’s a lovely city park. God is not a liar. God is love. A Canadian Wiccan (white energy) complained because I posted uplifting Bible verses for a woman who openly proclaimed her Christianity. I sure don’t need THAT group if they find God’s Word ‘offensive’! From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. John 6:66 My mother left for her vacation cabin today. She’ll come back through in a few weeks when she has another dentist appointment. She didn’t feel well and hasn’t felt well for a week or more. Hope she can rest up and get to feeling better before she leaves for her 35 day trip to Europe. She was to have her yearly mammogram first thing in Atlanta today and then drive the other bit. Hope she doesn’t encounter any damage from bears or broken pipes! Jon and Mary came for supper last night and we laughed for hours. It’s always such fun to have a big group around the table. Supper was sure good. We had chicken with new potatoes in a recipe that has a Mexican influence. Yummy! I had a bunch of housework and laundry waiting for me today. Whew! I should never let laundry pile up, but I hate to spend time cleaning when company is here for just a few days. I’ll get it all folded before bedtime, for sure. Philippians 2:1-2 "If then there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love, sharing the same feelings, focusing on one goal.” Hubby is finished with sports til next winter so he’ll be home right after 3:00 from now on. He still has college course work to do, but I’m looking forward to his company, earlier walks in the park and being able to eat supper earlier! I really had a hard time waking up this morning so I opted NOT to keep the car. Mother was dressing to leave and I did get up around 6:30, but boy was I sleepy. I had troubling dreams last night but know they were caused by some negative remarks people had made. If I’d been able to wake myself, I would have rebuked Satan and gotten back to a peaceful sleep. I think we’ll have left-overs for supper tonight so we aren’t wasteful. I over prepared for supper last night so I can just add to that. Nick and I both ate good lunches. Jim takes frozen dinners and those hearty soups for his lunch. As soon as Jim gets home, we need to go to the bank, post office and to Douglasville to drop off a payment. I refuse to pay huge fees to pay bills online. Only a few utilities are not ‘web friendly’. I no longer mail from here to there because about a year ago, it took almost 3 weeks for a bill payment to go 11 miles! Have a great evening and stay well! Just beautiful! My deck is shaded much of the day so I am enjoying time outside. My yard swing is shaded until late afternoon. I’ve only sat out there a couple of times, tho. I made the swing seat a little too large and I need to lift the swing a bit so my (short) legs aren’t so close to the ground! Jim didn’t feel well yesterday. I’m hoping he feels much better today. They’re doing the CRCT’s this week every morning and he’s teaching the afternoon classes so not as much free time to check in. He called during his lunch and said he still feels icky. He woke at 2:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep. He left for school before I woke. Gosh our grass needs cutting. Our front yard is steep, leading to the street. I tried cutting the yard years ago and the lawnmower got away from me and pulled me down the hill. I’m not allowed to do any yard work til chemo ends so I cannot help out. That’s hard for me. I like it to look really nice….. Psalms 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. My mother is terrified because of the Swine Flu. She is at her vacation cabin and can only pick up one local TV station until she gets her satellite turned back on. She’ll have a real panic attack when she sees all the news coverage. She’s already called me today to warn me to not go into stores or around people. There are no cases in Georgia and I seriously doubt many people in Villa Rica went to Cancun or Mexico in the last few weeks. I will use common sense, tho. No hugging friends, etc., until this passes. This too SHALL pass. I put a large roast in my slow cooker early today. I’d given away my old cooker and this is the first time I’m using my new one. It has a rubber seal and the lid locks on. You can’t smell much. I guess that’s a good thing! I’ve eaten healthy all day, even tho that red meat is cooking in the kitchen. Red meat is not good for your digestive tract but I can eat it once a month or so. Actually, I’ll eat a tiny piece and fill up on veggies and potatoes without gravy. I don’t like gravy. I’m going to let Jim nap for an hour before getting supper on the table. Nick and I walked our street in the middle of the day. The house his friend’s family had rented was foreclosed upon and is for sale for $85,000. The government will also provide money for all new carpet and a repair to an exterior door off the back of the house. The house sold, brand new, in 1999 for $120,000. Folks, things are BAD! After supper, we’re going for a walk. I’d like to slowly get up to 6 miles a day. Back before we moved south, 13 years ago, I was walking two miles, three times a day, and going to Jazzercise two to three nights a week. 7 ½ days til chemo. I feel GREAT. No discomfort or soreness from the gall bladder surgery. I still am not allowed to lift. It’s been only 2 weeks tomorrow so two MORE weeks. Hope you’re enjoying this spring weather! Philippians 2:5-7 Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn't think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! 1 John 4:13 "We know that we live in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit." John 6:67-69 "You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." ♥ † † † ♥ I was a bit lazy again today. I haven’t kept the car since early last week and am all caught up on chores. Not having anything to do makes for a long day. I actually stayed in bed til 8:30 when the sun came in my window and hit me in the eyes. That’s quite late for me! Jim stayed after school today to play a scrimmage baseball game with some kids. He’ll be hurting tonight! He planned to catch for them and let them take turns rotating positions and batting. I know Jim will be tired, but I sure do need to get out and walk tonight! I’m not getting enough exercise. I’m concerned there may be a time during chemo that I am not able to do as much. I have 8 more treatments, over 16 weeks, to go. I’ll finish in mid August, if everything goes as planned. Walking up and down our street is okay, but boring and in the sun. Some of our neighbors have dogs that I have to be concerned about. It they’re loose, I might get bitten. I’ve been chased a few times! I had an enormous amount of roast beef left-over yesterday so I’ll make BBQ for Thursday’s supper. That’s an easy to prepare meal and with some baked beans, tastes great. Tonight we went to a new Chinese Restaurant / Buffet in town and were pretty disappointed. They had several pork dishes (tough meat) and numerous shrimp dishes. The price was not as advertised in the mailer we got today and it was way too expensive for what we actually got. We won’t go back. I don’t like talking on the phone and never have. I’ve had four very long phone calls today. My mind tends to wander after a while. Uh huh. Uh huh. Jim doesn’t feel well, still, so started on a Z-pak tonight. He has a running prescription for those because of his asthma and neurogenic bladder. He’s got an awful cough. His throat isn’t sore anymore. Hope he feels better soon. Well, I’m bored…. and there’s nothing on TV for a few hours. Jim doesn’t feel like going for a walk or playing tennis so he’s watching sports instead. Have a great evening and stay well! Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." ††† We had so much fun on Thursday. Nick and I went with our local home school group to Stars and Strikes in Dallas, Ga. for bowling, laser tag, and loads of games. He must have told me 100 times how much fun he had. Tonight he has a friend spending the night and then he’ll go home and spend the night with that friend on Saturday night. They’ll go skateboarding and play ball in the park with a small group. Good for him! I was blessed by being able to spend time talking with the other moms about God and His love for us! It’s so neat to be surrounded by Christians. I’d not met two of the ladies before. What a blessing they were! We’re doing math review for the rest of the year. Nick has 25 more school days left in our year. He’s completed all his other courses. In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9 All my chores were done before 1:00 today, except for folding the clothes I still had in my partially working dryer. It takes three cycles for my dryer to dry the clothes. Ah, someday I’ll get new appliances but not today. I’m so glad it’s Friday! It’s a bit gray and certainly chilly! We had rain on and off during the day with some thunder once in a while. It’s a good day to cuddle! We expect rain on Saturday, too. Still, weekends are the best part of the week. I had to rush out and mail out a copy of an invoice for a trip to Europe so while we were out, Jim and I went to Longhorn’s. We had several gift certificates with bits left on them. I was good. I had the chicken and a sweet potato. Jim was a bad boy and ate red meat. It sure was good. Nick’s friend got here around 6:30, just as we were getting home. We’d bought pizzas for them. Not many kids eat like Nick. He’d choose boiled okra, liver and onions, etc. as his favorite foods. Hobby Lobby has opened in Douglasville! I’m thrilled. The store is huge! I picked up four or five things valued at $32.00 for less than $3.00. That’s my kind of shopping! I love Hobby Lobby. It’s funny how your brain adds things together. Just yesterday we’d been in traffic behind a truck with a ‘Call Before You Dig’ plastered on the back. I’d also thought about transplanting some Rose of Sharon bushes to the side yard, right where I dreamed we’d broken the pipe. Add in the heavy rain and BINGO! Jim had hoped to cut our grass this weekend and is trying his best. The rain DID stop, but it’s still wet. Our yard looks awful. I don’t know what happened, but we have huge sections where our grass has died. We haven’t treated the lawn in a couple of years so it cannot be burned from fertilizer or bug killers. Hmmmm Oh I wish I could work in the dirt! Nick and his friend were picked up around 1:30. I’m sure he’ll have lots of fun! He won’t be home til tomorrow afternoon. I miss him when he’s gone. The boys are so quiet at night. Once I tell them we’re going to bed, we don’t hear them at all. I did hear Nick put some glasses in the sink before I fell asleep, but it was just a quiet ‘chink’. They cleaned his room before leaving so you can’t even tell he’d had company. I think that’s neat! I talked to our Jon today and we’re set for him to take me to chemo on Wednesday. He interviewed for a job that starts mid to late May and I do hope he gets it. There are just no jobs here. We’re praying he finds a job soon! It’s been a blessing, having him available to drive me back and forth. Jim will be off all June and July and can take me then. Heal me Lord Jesus! John 16:23-24 "In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.” No information has been released yet, but we have two people in local hospitals that may have Swine Flu. We have a large Hispanic community so I am guessing someone went for a visit and returned sick. Supper is over and the rain has stopped for now. The kitchen is cleaned and Jim’s looking at new hard drives for his laptop. His is full and he needs extra room because of his college courses. Hope he can find some deals on Amazon because I earn gift certificates there doing my surveys. Have a great evening and stay well! "He makes me lay down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters." Psalm 23:2 Wow, we had a very quiet day here. Nick had spent the night at a friend’s house and Jim and I slept in. I got up around 8:30 and Jim got up a bit later. My power supply to my monitor had died during the night. Jim hooked up an old monitor, which gives me real problems because of the size print on pages even if I zoom in. We tried to find a replacement at Best Buy, but they didn’t have any. We did go to Lowe’s and got some Minwax stain in ‘Early Spring’ green for my bench I got for my kitchen table. We’ve got to sand it and can stain it once this rain stops! We want to have it ready for the coming weekend. Speaking of the weather, we’re under a major thunderstorm alert with a chance of 70mph winds. The sky has grown very dark and the wind is already picking up. We’ve asked my mother to come a few days early next weekend so we can have a big Mother’s Day celebration. Jon and Mary and her girls are coming. Mother has a dental appointment on the 11th in Birmingham so it should work out fine. Anyhow, it’ll be a lot of fun. I hope we have nice weather that day. I woke a bit nervous today. I’d had bad dreams. Something about my chemo treatment this coming Wednesday. I was fine once I was fully awake, but it was an odd feeling. Jon will take me and stay with me. He’s such a good son. Jim was watching the Cubs game this afternoon so I took the movie ‘Explorers’ into the bedroom and watched it for a while before dozing off for about an hour. I woke to a female Cardinal making a lot of noise in the Oak Leaf Hydrangeas outside my bedroom window. She was breaking off tiny shoots and pulling on some of the flowers. Patches watched her for a long time before scaring her away. Wow, the stormy weather arrived very quickly and the swirling winds brought rain in at every window. We had to run around and close up the house. Only the backdoor remains fully opened. A tornado was spotted on Hwy 27. I have to admit that storms and stormy weather doesn’t worry me. I am concerned that Nick may be coming home in the storm and I just have to assume a deputy sheriff knows how to drive in bad weather. Otherwise, growing up in hurricane country and living for the a good bit of my life in tornado alley has dampened any fear of storms. ** I called to check and they didn’t even know it had rained. They will be heading this way in about an hour. Jon called to check on us because they heard on the local news that a lot of telephone poles are down and there was damage in Villa Rica. Nothing on our property. Jim put in ‘High Crimes’ this afternoon. I wasn’t interested in it until about 20 minutes into the movie. Looks good. We watched ‘The Notebook’ and ‘Atonement’ yesterday. We really liked ‘The Notebook’. Well, not much else to report. Hope you had a great weekend. Have a great evening and stay well! Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you.” ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♫ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Well, I had a good start to the day, followed by a 2 hour phone call from a doom and gloom elderly relative, back to my making my day positive. I’m not a rude person, but finally told this person that they were ruining my mood and needed to stop talking about such things right now. Typical old people stuff…. Social security going to go away and you’ll die of starvation as an old woman type stuff. Philippians 4: 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-- meditate on these things. I know I need to get a lot of my housework done in case I don’t feel well after chemo so that’s what I’ve done for most of my day. It’s gloomy out and rained on and off so everything feels wet but it’s a cool day and was good for cleaning. I’ve washed all our sheets and other laundry and gotten that folded. I’d planned on scrubbing the kitchen floor, but it would never dry as humid and rainy as it is. Hope I can get that done tomorrow! The day seems to go so fast now that Jim gets home right after 3:00. I really like him getting home so early. He has to start spending more time on his studies, but just having him come in and visit with me for a while before heading to his room makes a world of difference. When on when can I get out and walk again? This rain is to continue for much of our week! Thankfully, it looks like next weekend will be warm and clear! We’ll have to clean off our deck after the rain stops on Friday. Every time it rains we get so much yellow pollen, leaves and mud on the deck. We plan on cooking out for Mother’s Day and will surely sit out on the deck, too! I’m thinking through our menu for Sunday. We’ll grill chicken and I’m hoping I can find some fresh corn on the cob. Baked potatoes are always good but so is potato salad. For dessert, I’m thinking a whipped Jell-O dessert (low to zero fat) and maybe a blueberry or peach cobbler. I think the desserts depend on how I’m feeling by Saturday. One of the cobblers is quite a bit of work. The other is quite easy. I do hope you’ve had a nice day. The ‘House’ season finale is on tonight and I’m looking forward to that. I’m a huge fan. Have a great evening and stay well! I woke Jim before 3:30 this morning with my screaming. I had a nightmare that involved skeletons chasing me. Once I was awake, I realized it was quite funny, but in my dream, I was terrified it seems. Jim didn’t get back to sleep, but I did. I was up before Jim left for work and Nick was up not long after. We had eggs and toast for breakfast. Well tomorrow (Wednesday) is my 5th chemo treatment out of 12. I like to think of it in days instead of months or weeks. Playing tricks on my brain. Jim is taking off work to take me to chemo. Our son who usually takes me is quite ill. He has a lung infection and a sinus infection. He’s on several antibiotics and an inhaler. Not only does he not need to be around me, but there’ll be a number of ladies in the chemo room with me. Most of them or all of them are Stage IV and some are very ill. We don’t need to expose them to anything! More horrible storms are supposed to move in and Wednesday is supposed to have hail and tornadoes possible. The bad weather shouldn’t start until after I’m home tomorrow. Tonight will just be severe thunder storms after dark. We sure have gotten our share of rain this season! It is a blessing, tho, after so many years of drought. I worked a lot of hours today on a trip to Sicily. This is not a new trip, for my customers but to replace a cruise that was cancelled because not enough travelers signed up. I sure hope this one works out! It seems the economy has put a damper on trips for many people. That hurts my customers who can afford to travel all they want but are not comfortable traveling without a group and tour guide. I really like Jim getting home so early! Neat! He was home by 3:20 today. We had Tacos for supper and even ran to the grocery store and Wal-Mart to get Nick some new p.j.’s. That kid gets taller every night. When I wasn’t working today, I watched Nick play Nazi Zombies on Call of Duty World at War. It’s quite entertaining. I like his Call of Duty games. They include so much history. A local news paper had said last night was the House finale but it wasn’t. One more week of new shows. I’ve seen all the episodes over and over and really like House, Bones, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Fringe and Eleventh Hour. We used to like NUMB3RS and CSI til they changed so much. Right now, the plan is for my mother to come here on Saturday and stay til Monday morning. I hope I feel really good after my treatment so I can enjoy time with her. Last time she came through, she didn’t feel well at all. Thursday night, Jim is recording the Temple High School band locally. It never takes long and he’ll be home early afternoon and can have supper with us before he goes out. Not too much else planned this week. I hope you’ve had a really nice day! Have a great evening! I broke out in a rash toward the end of my chemo drip. My nurse got the physician’s assistant to check me over. My rash moved around my body and finally went away. They gave me an IV of Benadryl and had me wait 30 minutes before attaching my pump chemo. The rash came back at bedtime but I could watch it fade. It’s a reaction to one of the chemo drugs and I’m not sure what doctor will decide to do about it. The Benadryl had made me sleepy and I didn’t have supper prepped. Jim took us to Cracker Barrel for supper. I ate chicken fried chicken, fried okra, mashed potatoes and stewed apples. I got a beautiful Mother's Day bouquet of sunflowers from our son, Scott, his wife and their 6 year old today. I love sunflowers and they match my kitchen decor perfectly. We don't have a formal dining room, but then, if we did, I'd still want the flowers out where I can see them all the time. I feel okay today. I generally will be sleepy for two days or so after my disconnect from the 5FU 46 hour pump. I’m hoping this week I don’t get tired because we’re planning a nice Mother’s Day cook-out. I want to enjoy the day with family! It looks like I’ll be driving myself to my disconnect tomorrow. I’ll have to take Jim to work at 7:15. My disconnect is at 12:30. That’s always a quick in and out visit. Jim had to remain late today to help with after-school pick up duty and he’s recording the concert for Temple High School tonight. He won’t be gone that long, tho. The concerts never last really long and it’s here in town at our church, First Baptist Church of Villa Rica. As soon as he got in, we took Nick to Gamestop. He cashed in some old PS1 and PS2 games and got a brand new Call of Duty World at War for $2.80. I really like it that he enjoys those games and the History Channel games. He knows so much about our history from the facts shared in those games. He also knows the names and quotes from a lot of ‘greats’ in our history. For supper we had boneless chicken breasts topped with salsa and cheese, stuffing and okra. YUM! That’s always a quick meal and easy to clean up after. I’m a bit sleepy this evening. I didn’t sleep well last night because of the steroids. I fell asleep right away but woke after about 2 ½ hours. I was awake from 1:30 til around 4:00 a.m. and up at 7:00 for the day. I tried to sleep but Scooter licks my face and wakes me. He’s such a lover. So why isn’t ‘Eleventh Hour’ on tonight? Bummer! ‘Bones, CSI and another CSI. ‘ I like ‘Eleventh Hour’ a lot. It’s our new ‘X-Files’. I’m still not sure if my mother is coming in tonight. I talked to her twice today and she was waiting on her dentist to call about Monday. I’ve tried calling her back several times this afternoon on her cabin phone and didn’t get an answer. I try not to call her cell phone much because she has such limited minutes. She might just pull up here any minute. I’d really like it if she were here for Mother’s Day. I hope you had a really nice day! Please remember to pray for my healing!
