Ok, I've made my mistakes. But there was a time when, if I had the extra space and a relative of mine had gotten fired and had credit card debt, I wouldn't have expected them to pay me any money to stay with me (and I didn't have to stay with my sister, i could have stayed at my dad's house like I'm doing now) unless the power bill started to go up a lot (that and I would definitely encourage them to find a job).
But she kept bugging me about how I never offered to pay her any money and kept biting my head off about screwing up. Where is the compassion?
Things like this are why:
1. I have a hard time feeling guilt because instead of lifting me up the people who are supposed to support me keep grinding my face deeper into the sand.
2. I used to be agnostic and nearly went Atheist.

My complaint is about "looks" in the church. I recognize and follow the pattern of being humble in my dress but I cannot change the way I look. I worked as an administrator at a church for 3 yrs where there was constant complaining about almost everything including the fact that I was, and I quote "Too sexy to be a church administrator." God does not judge us by the way we look, the world does and this was a highly worldly church. Beyond that I find complainers and whiners to be just that. Complainers and whiners.

Whoa, it's been quite awhile since I posted anything here, or any of the other threads 
This post isn't really a whine, but then again, maybe it is.... 
I just found out after 30+ years.... that I'm not a member of any church. I grew up in church, my parents were members of 2 of the churches I basically grew up in (my dad was at least, since he was an elder in one, and a board member in the other). I assumed after all these years, that just because my parents were members of one church, I was one too. Funny.
The last church I was plugged into was in CA. I was actually working as their office secretary, and taking minutes during the Board of Deacon's meetings.
The current church I'm serving at is a sister church of that church, and it's the Board's policy that anyone who is going to be serving as a Sunday School Teacher should be a member at that church. I've got no issues with that. I thought I could just transfer my "membership" from my prior church....and it was going to be easy since it's a sister church...but then I contacted the church in CA, and found out I wasn't a member there....ever.
So...I guess I will finally be a member of a church for the very first time.

I can't stand parents who say one thing, do another, then get mad and hide behind that particular Commandment when their kids bring up what they did.
Like my dad and I were watching Office Space and he griped about the rap song in one scene, "How can you stand to listening to all that cussing."
Hey, dad, for years I had to hear you cursing and banging pots and pans around every Sunday morning. Nam is no excuse for being a hypocrite. And at least the rappers are entertaining.
I had bought a CD case for $15 and my mom griped about me spending the money, but she just bought three $16 plants! At least what I bought was useful and helped me to organize things better!
And what even worse is when you finally confront them about it, they say that you're "just looking for something to complain about".

So, I've been teaching Sunday School for about a month now. Over-all it's been a good experience. Junior High kids are great...
BUT....there's a whine.
Our 7th grade Sunday School is Co-Ed., due to the lack of male attendees in that grade level. The teacher for the 7th grade boys who is now my teaching partner, was getting very discouraged about teaching since no one would show up 80% of the time. So the C.E. Director decided to make the 7th grade Co-Ed after I stepped up to teach, to the other teacher's relief.
There is this one kid, who for some reason thinks he has to answer everything, and rant on and on about what his take on what his classmates are thinking as if he "knows" what they are thinking. No matter how many times we ask him to let the other kids answer, or make a comment, he insists on doing ALL the talking because "no one is saying anything". I'm thinking maybe he's uncomfortable with silence....or he has trouble with waiting. He says that he already knows "EVERYTHING" from what they teach at his school. Seriously. My teaching partner had to take him out to talk to him. I don't understand why he has the need to answer everything, talk out of turn, but then he supposedly doesn't like attention and would rather be left alone when it comes to group activities. AND for some reason he has a very annoying dislike towards the girls in the class even though most of them keep to themselves. The only girl that really bothers him is like the female version of himself. It's kind of ironic. Maybe he feels threatened by girls because he has an older sister who doesn't tolerate his incessant need to talk and be the "voice" for everyone else.

Our music leader doesn't know how to read music. It shows. No choir, no music groups, no opportunities for children to learn beautiful music, no Sunday morning traditional hymns with all the parts sung joyously, no beautiful instrumental music just because God made it, no pretty piano music, no soothing melodies, no true congregational singing,  .
It just makes me feel quite sad sometimes, and I long for a fabulous eternity of singing beautiful praises to God.
I'm trying to train myself to not care about the music, but for a music person, this has been a long three year trial.
And now that I've allowed myself this brief whine, I will continue onward, focusing on things that really matter.

Back in the olden days when my mom was growing up and into the 1950s, lots of people couldn't read music but they were taught shaped notes. I even knew a pianist who couldn't read "round" notes and could only play shaped-note music. There were people who travelled from town to town teaching young and old to sing harmony & melody based on shaped notes. Sadly, if people don't learn to read music today, they have little choice but to sing poorly.

Luciano Pavarotti could not read music. Some great Christian and secular composers/performers could not read a lick of music. A church choir director can only go so far if they lack music education. However, this is not to say that he/she could not effectively have a great choir and excel in leading worship.

God has been working with me and has this 66 year old man growing in grace. I find one thing in our church very discouraging. This is the group of people who are quite satisfied to treat the church as a social club. God, through the senior pastor, has lead me in the path of a disciple. It really grieves me that a number of people have done so little to grow in grace. They have no idea what they are missing. I pray and ask God to show them the walk of an over comer.

Welcome to the forums, Jaimicook. I hear ya. I recently did a children's object lesson about the tools people in the Bible might have used; Paul using a needle and thread making tents, Luke using something like a stethoscope, etc. I was informed afterward that the adults in the congregation probably knew nothing of the lives of the disciples...which alerted me to the very fact you are bemoaning. Most of those people have been in church all their lives!
Meanwhile, I have a whine of my own: kids look at old people like me (49, thank you) and assume that we have no brain cells left and have never been where they are experiencing what they are experiencing and therefore have no wisdom to impart concerning same.
AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHH!

I was in a church for a while where this was the case--at times I left the sanctuary and went into an empty room and waited out the so-called "praise and worship" portion of the service. I finally learned to tune it out and worship in spite of it. There wasn't much I could do, because I don't read music, either, but the Lord has blessed me with an ear--I can harmonize with almost anyone--if they can carry a tune.
Now I am at a church where the music is technically good--but 90% of the time there is no spirit in it.
I had thought the whole time that the issue was technical--poor music/singing--but in both cases I've come to realize that the lack is more than that--I think they have forgotten the purpose--of leading the congregation in (heart) praise and worship--not just singing.
And so it goes...

The pastor starts of with a passage from the bible and then, at around the 20% mark, he starts teaching about how to live our life instead of explaining the word of God. I feel more like attending a counseling session instead of attending church.

In our wanderings, dha nd I came upon a church in town that did that every Sunday. Thankfully we left and are now part of an Orthodox Presbyterian church and the teaching is meat. I suggest you run and find a different church.
Euty, sadly, I'm the other way when it comes to my parents latley. Trying to be more thankful.

I have to start by saying that I love going to concerts and loud music, but I cannot stand how loud the music is in our service. It is so loud that you cannot hear yourself. I also sing very loud, so for me not to be able to hear myself is a miracle, but just plain dumb. I also get more words from God during P&W, but I don't even go anymore because it is so loud. I also don't know how to approach it. I went to a sound person when it was not as loud and complimented her and she said that the person in charge of music really wanted it louder. Since I don't agree with complaining unless you have a plan for a solution, I am not sure what to do. I am really at the point of leaving because of it. :( The only good thing is I work in the Sunday school and so I have an excuse for not being in service during the P&W.
It is also so very cold in there. I can wear more clothes and I have even brought in blankets because it is so darn cold. MEN - NOT EVERYONE WEARS SUITS!!!!!

LOL at my answer, where I voted for special music. What I most dislike about my home church is the quality (or lack thereof) of its music. Our choir director has a voice that may be very pleasing to other ears, but not to mine. Heavy (I do mean *heavy!*) on the vibrato. I've commented it sounds as if she swallowed a billy goat, and my husband says it sounds like she's driving across rough pavement when she sings. In addition, her voice is high, and very powerful. Even during congregational singing, her voice drowns everyone else's out, so it's pretty much all you ever hear.
I don't mean anything against her personally, because at least she works hard, is dependable, and also is a very good person. It's just that her voice and my ears don't get along very well.
