WELCOME JIM!!!!

You're about a year younger than my Dad and one of what's often called of The Great Generation - and I agree!

We faced teh fall of the economic world, the Great Depression, the 2nd World War, Korean War and into the fifties. The church remained strong through those tough years. I read where some claimed the people then were unlearned. Well, I would love to challenge that. I find the youth of to-day untrained, unlearned and unconcerned, They think that going out two by two is a trip to McDonald's. We never had McDOnald's, but we did have weekly visitation, strong prayer meetings and indepth Bible studies. Yes, those old saints could quote scripture around the young one's heads. Their quiet faith carried them through all manner of evil and tribulation. We didn't need a movie screen up front to show the words of hymns; we knew them.

Sorry, if we returned to the traditional worship service, we would show the world that we have no desire to join them, and just maybe, they will want to join us in celebrating Jesus CHrist and His Word.

Cheers,

Jim

I saw today that Frankie Laine just died at age 93.

Two indicators that you qualify as a Geezer if:
1) You remember Frankie in his hey-day, and
2) Your first thought on hearing this news was, "I thought he died ages ago."

Guilty on both counts.

Really? He sang the theme song to Raw Hide and he sang the once popular song Mule Train, among others.

I guess I've gotten so old I've mixed them all up. I thought Frankie was the the exercise nut who had a show back in the early days of tv. Remember Eual Gibbons who said that you could eat pinecones? Hadn't tried one yet... I want to live longer than he did.

Hair? I remember HAIR, wasn't it a stage musicals from the 60's. I remember the 60's, now... I am 60.

I'm still here singing in churches every weekend with my group. I will do that work until I'm hit in the face with a shovel and my soul is in Heaven. Amen.

That for one is where I am and on those Sundays when I don't have a date with my group I sing in our choir where I've been a member since the early 50's. So you can see the older folks are still doing their part while the younger folks are still trying to find themselves. That was meant to be funny for any of you thin skinned folks, don't take it so seriously. LOL You aren't gonna get out of live alive anyway. Relax and enjoy.

Yeah, I remember hair. Wasn't that the wavy stuff that used to be on top of my head, and now just grows out of my nostrils?

Frankie Lane was a little more heavy set than the "exercise nut" you're thinkin' of. Actually, Jack LaLane is still on tv selling a juicer. When I look at him and his wife, I'm almost convinced to buy one. But I'm cheap, so I don't.

BTW, I LOVED Rawhide when I was a kid, and no, Rowdy wasn't my favorite character. I actually liked Gil Favor and Wishbone more.

On a completely (or somewhat or sort of) unrelated note, I heard Tom Snyder died, and I hate to say that I already thought he was dead.

Since I'm talking about tv, I need to make a confession. Maybe it will make me feel better --- 'cause there might be others like me.

I've gotten hooked on a tv show. I haven't been hooked on a tv show, well, I have no idea how many years -- a long time.

Every morning I wake up pretty early, and I have started watching J.A.G. on the USA network. My only problem is that the USA network doesn't own the rights to ALL of the shows, so they never show the last few shows. I never watched J.A.G. until a few months ago. I had no idea it was on for 10 years.

Okay, I've also gotten hooked on another show as well. Good thing it's just a mini-series. It's Burn Notice on the same network. Man, these network people are goooood. LOL!

Exercise Guy = Jack La Lane perhaps... He's 90 something and sells juicers on one of the shopping channels...

Yeah, it's a good show. I was without my four kids for a month, and during that time, my husband and I started watching that show.

I think I read it was a summer show and only slotted until the "real" season begins.

Don't forget your ears. There's probably a beard growing in there if you haven't been keeping watch.

Good news! They renewed Burn Notice for another season.

Euty,

I still think you look a lot like Patrick Stewart.

I think Frankie Lane also sang the theme song to High Noon, didn't he? "Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling" - I'm not even 40 yet, but will be in less than two months, Lord willing. But I often feel like I was born in the wrong generation! I guess I'm an "old geezer" in my heart - no offense to anyone here! (except I love having some more modern things like ibuprofen so I guess God knew what He was doing by letting me be born when I was)

Oh I also think Eule (is that how you spell his name) Gibbons used to advertise for Grape Nuts, didn't he?

Absolutely...along with eating tree bark.

Yep, he was the Grape Nuts guy, but I remember him most from Johnny Carson. I can still hear one of the interviews with Johnny continually saying, "I did not know that" in stunned amazement.
